Legume Ratings and Reviews
For this business-related dinner, we chose the private dining option for a table seating 12. We ordered from the usual menu. We received excellent service and superb food. Our out-of-town guests were impressed with the food and ability to have a private room for our group. We began with cocktails and ordered three courses. The service was gracious and unobtrusive. We were not rushed. It was the perfect beginning to our conference the next day.
Menu selection was very limited. Didn’t even have a chicken option. Although good, food is very expensive and not worth the price. Drinks were small and also not worth the price. I have never left a poor review for a restaurant but unfortunately all 4 of us felt ripped off.
We’ve dined at Legume previously and the food was wonderful. Last night was a huge disappointment. The menu was quite limited. The pate and goat cheese with pepper jelly were good, though the French fries were a bit limp. The grilled romaine was okay, but swimming in dressing. The lamb steak was tough. The rib steak was tasty, but nothing special. The rice pudding was thick and tasteless. The chocolate cake was rather bitter tasting. The black walnut cake was decent, but nothing to go back for. All in all, a huge and expensive disappointment. Will not return anytime soon.
The server was absent in between someone else bringing our appetizer and ordering our drinks (a crucial point in our meal). We had to crane our necks to get his attention! Next step would've been walking over to the bar ourselves! Swordfish was bizarrely thin and pork chop, bizarrely fat, which is probably why they call it the fat chop. We were disappointed that there was no cassoulet.
Nothing I ate was bad.loved the crostini with goat cheese and pepper jelly. Also liked the smelts. The oxtail soup was delicious. But overall I found the menu not very exciting .liked the experience but wasn't good enough to pull be back in for a second visit.
We have been fans of Legume from its Regent Square days. We have had MANY memorable meals at Legume. The food is the freshest. The preparation is careful, thoughtful, and honors the flavors of the food. Apps are great; soups & salads are delicious; entrees spectacular; desserts perfection. Service is professional and warm. There are plenty of wines to choose from, by the glass, bottle, or carafe, and wonderful cocktails (as you can get any of the cocktails from Butterjoint). Go to Legume. You will have a special meal in graceful, unpretentious surroundings.
I always like Legume, but this time we had a very hard time selecting an appetizer. For people who don't eat meat, it can be a bit tricky. We finally settled on the goat cheese and crostini with hot pepper jelly, but they were out of it (at 6:30). We had the smoked bluefish appetizer and it was very good. The sides we ordered were also good, but I didn't love the snapper -- a little fishy for my taste. The waiter was very helpful and helped us choose a wine that we liked very much. Overall, good meal, but I didn't enjoy it as much as usual.
I came to Pittsburgh to see Cirque and was looking for a restaurant. Legume was recommended to my by a friend who informed me that the cassoulet was a seasonal dish and was back on the menu and I had to try it. It was delicious and I truly enjoyed it, the best meal I've had at a restaurant in months. Our server was also great.
Love that they use local ingredients. With that as the case, the menu is small (as expected). Same sides are used for most dishes, etc. I had the lamb steak which was an interesting way to prepare lamb. I ordered medium rare and it was medium or even well, though the server let me know ahead of time that due to the way the steak is cut and different muscle directions, it was difficult to cook evenly. Still, it was good. Just not memorable. My wife had the pork chop, which was very good. Both came with a potato/turnip mash which was ok. Kimchi was good. A little too much spice drowned out some flavor. In general, the service and the ambiance were great. The food was good and I may be back to sample the different seasonal menus. Just not good enough to cause me to WANT to come back.
We have been to this establishment in the past for dinner. We have never had a bad meal and the night we went was no exception. Service can be hit or miss, but on this night our service was out of this world. Really enjoyed the server and the attention she provided my wife and I. The menu is always fresh and interesting. We will certainly return. The establishment really offers some nice cocktails too.
We celebrated our anniversary/new years eve with a wonderful meal at Legume. Service was outstanding and the food was so good! I had the lamb which was full of flavor, scallops were superb and chocolate cake was the best I've ever had. Overall a great meal and great night out.
Legume is the kind of restaurant where one never worries if they are going to like something. My Wife and I have been coming here for years, at least a 3-4 times a year. We always have the same waiter and order many of the same dishes. The consistency in the quality and taste are impeccable. I highly recommend.
