We are visiting from out of town and this was one of the best meals we had in awhile. Beyond delicious.
I love Legume. I don't eat out often, but I can always count on it for quality and a nice experience. The food was delicious--every single item ordered met with approval. This was the most delicious halibut, and everyone else enjoyed the Jamaican stew. I have every tasted. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars overall is that, near the end of our meal the noise level in the area our foursome was sitting went from "moderate" (able to converse well) to "cannot hear our conversation," as though we were sitting in an echo chamber that had suddenly filled up with hearty laughter and resonant voices. Next time I will ask for a table in a different section.
The Ramp Salsa Verde was outstanding. Worth trying if you've never had ramps.
I took a very, very long time for the food to arrive and when it did arrive the timing was incorrect.
We had a wonderful dinner, the food was delicious and the service was great...
We try to support Legume - appreciate Trevitt's loyalty to locally sourced food supply and creative menu offerings. Most recently, however, I had their Jamaican pork stew - I asked the waitress if it was spicy and she assured me it was sweet. Indeed it was - but it was also highly salted. If I had been warned by her - or even seen this on the menu, I would have made another choice. My only other suggestion to Legume is to try to dampen the noise levels - and don't play any background music - which makes us all just raise our voices more so to be heard - and who goes to Legume to listen to music? But we will continue to go to Legume - usually high quality food and an interesting menu with new offerings daily.
I have been to Legume several times in the past few months and on every occasion it was excellent. The staff are pleasant and throroughly professional. On this last occasion all four of us had steaks and really enjoyed them. Bravo!
Food and drinks were very good. My waitress was pleasant, but not engaging. She seemed rushed and did not offer any suggestions. It almost felt asking a question would have been a bother to her. I would go back with the hopes of having a different server. Perhaps it was an off day for her.
We loved the food, which was very fresh and innovative. Every eater will find something they love from carnivores to vegetarians. And it’s not too noisy, with beautifully handmade wooden tables spaced nicely so you don’t feel people are listening to your conversation. I highly recommend Legume!!!
Legume is always good, but this was a particularly exceptional evening. The food was prepared to perfection (Halibut, Steak, Jamaican pork) and the service was excellent.
A party of 5 celebrating Pitt graduation. Ordered 2 bruschetta as app to share. Surprised each order was a single piece (half a large slice of toast). Very unusual ricotta topping with white beans, but tasty. Ordered 3 salads. Server asked if we wanted fresh pepper (all 3 did), but peppered 1 salad & walked away. Bread was not replenished. Ordered 4 steaks (3 med rare, 1 med) & 1 chicken. When entrees arrived 90 min after our res time, 3 steaks were med & 1 med rare. We chose not to send them back for proper temp. We ended sharing 3 desserts. The vinegar pie a la mode was outstanding. Others just okay. When the check arrived, a 20% gratuity was included. I have never had a gratuity included for a party of 5, nor have I had an included gratuity exceed 18%. As a former server, I am a generous tipper. I often tip well over 20% at inexpensive restaurants where servers work just as hard for less, but I think 15% on a check over $300 is adequate unless service is truly outstanding, which it was not at Legume. The food at Legume is good & the atmosphere is nice, just be aware.
It was outstanding food and service
Food at Legume is always delicious. I know I will get something fresh from local farms, and it will be perfect. The menu is generally small, with each item carefully prepared.
Love it gloriana
Great place. Food is great.
The food is very well prepared here but 4 of us spent $200 and we don’t drink. Enough said.
Food was outstanding. Service was top-notch and professional. Good drink selection and my mackerel entree was really delicious.
Their only vegan option, whenever I eat there, is tempeh. It is not good. The only alternative is a plate full of vegetables. I would expect a place like this to take much better care of their vegan guests, they seem to be behind other restaurants in Pittsburgh who are doing a much better job.
Great experience all around. Duane and Chris really knocked it out of the park. Great food, better service!
Food was excellent. Safe was friendly and helpful. Menu was a little limited
The perfect place to share a meal with friends. Staff was great with suggestions about wine and preparation of entrees. Three of us split salad, starter, side and an entree and enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine. We typically go to Butterjoint (and love the atmosphere) but it was nice to have a a quiet place to visit and enjoy both food and company.
Legume is reliably excellent. The menu is limited but always includes an adequate selection of entrees. Service is outstanding.
Food and service always excellent in a laid-back casual manner. Legume is one of the best culinary experiences Pittsburgh has to offer. Period!
As usual, both food and service were exceptional. Very enjoyable evening!
Very enjoyable experience.
I like Legume a lot, but I wish they had more menu choices. Maybe they should have two or three standard item always on the menu.
We had a delicious meal! Everything from appetizers, to entrees, to dessert was fantastic. Our waiter was attentive but did not rush us. Legume does not disappoint.
One of our favorite places in Pittsburgh. Consistently very good food and excellent cocktails.
Fabulous in every respect.
Pretty rude very large group of people next to our table for 2. At one point a few people from this group were standing right up against our table and the waiter could not get by them. They had no sense that there were other people also dining in this room. No one from the restaurant said anything to them. it also took awhile to initially get service and order drinks but then the food came out pretty quick. My chicken was not cooked all the way through. But the appetizers were delicious.
We have been eating at Legume since it first opened in Regent Square. We still remember that first dinner, I had roast chicken and my husband had the vegetarian tasting menu. Most amazing polenta ever. We have celebrated every New Years and many special occasions at Legume. We moved to Portland, Maine last year but visited Pittsburgh for a few days. We ate another memorable meal at Legume one night and split a fancy burger at Butterjoint the next!! Can’t find anything that good yet in Portland!
I just feel like you can never go wrong with this place. Yes, it is expensive (by Pgh standards), but there are plenty of places that are expensive and then the food is disappointing. I've never had a meal here that I didn't like. Interesting combinations of flavors, an emphasis on locally-sourced ingredients, always one creative vegetarian option even with a small menu (by design--they like to focus on a few great dishes each day), and outstanding cocktails.
The desserts were the best I’ve ever had but our service was just so so. We dined at 7:30 and there were 3 of 8 or so entries that weren’t available.
A friend visiting from out of town wanted to get together. I googled restaurants near her hotel; found Legume. Since it has good reviews, I decided my wife and I would take out sister-friend there.
The appetizers were excellent. I had the Zurek; what an awesome soup; savory and sour with sausage and a ever so slightly present hint of lime juice (I believe). My wife and our guest had the bruschetta-hey loved it.
The pink trout delighted the ladies. I was wowed with the size, flavor and perfect temperature of my steak!
Jade attended to our needs with skillful grace.
Yeah, we’ll be back!
We have wanted to try Legume for some time. The ambiance is wonderful - loved the space, tables, chairs and noise level. The menu while limited (which is what we expected) had nice options for the four of us to enjoy. Overall, the experience was worth the wait.
Menu is very limited and they ran out of two things we tried to order.
The restaurant, the meals and service are OK. What is terrible is their "valet self-service" for parking. We invited a handicapped couple, and first had great difficulty bringing them into the restaurant. I then played the role of a valet-parking staff and parked their car across the street for which I got soaked as it was raining. Helping them to leave the restaurant was another nightmare. So if you intend to go this restaurant with handicapped guests, DO NOT go the Legume. Their substandard "valet self-service" will make it VERY INCONVENIENT to go to that restaurant.
From the appetizer to dessert, everything was delicious. Now I know why this is considered one of the best restaurants in Pittsburgh.
