Legume's sister bar next door, Butterjoint, provides seasonal cocktails, a thoughtful beer list, and an eclectic yet deliberate wine list. Bar seating is available on a first come, first serve basis and is a great way to check out what we're all about.
As usual, the food and wine were excellent! Our server was a bit new and a bit overwhelmed - but really nice.
We had a fantastic meal at Legume. Both the Scottish Trout and Braised Beef were excellent.
The minute we arrived we took note of the array of colorful paper lanterns that added a unique element and light to the dining room. The offered a tasty ginger/lime mocktail for the driver in our party. The Kolrabi salad was an original ...paper-thin slices of kolrabi with radishes in a tangy mustard dressing would have been enough to prove their culinary skills but then we had the beef and the salmon. For just a moment we thought we might extend our trip to return to Legume. But we will return again. Thank you
Legume is an upscale restaurant with a touch more class than many pittsburgh places. I felt well taken care of by the staff although the lamb I had was a bit tough and thats what came on the plate...lamb...nothing else (but gravy). Not sure I would write home about this place...
Legume is a nice atmosphere for a date or friends who want to catch up. Noise level is quiet. Also they manage food allergies well. When I put my issues into the open Table reservation they staff had already discussed my needs together before I got there.
Our favorite dining spot when heading to the theatre. Menu is creative and food, delicious!
Had a great table tucked away in the corner so that we could have a comfortable conversation. Nice contrast to too many restaurants that pack tables in so closely together that you can't hear yourself think.
The menu is limited but the food is very good. It is hard to find many vegetarian options (short of ordering the whole vegetarian tasting menu). The trout and the sweet potato ravioli were both delicious. We were disappointed they were out of the chocolate cake for dessert, but we ordered the gingerbread cake and it was excellent. Nice wine selection, but it is marked up about 3 times above the cost, which seems a little high to me. Overall, a good restaurant and we'll be back.
The food was great! The portions were extremely small for the price.
Outstanding Apple, turnip soup. Very interesting melange of flavors. Scottish trout and sweet potato ravioli were also excellent. Meals at Legume are always a treat.
Veal cheeks were outstanding. Salmon perfectly cooked. Apple crisp was ok, a little larger than I needed and maybe too much crunch.
The food - from appetizer through entree - was outstanding. The hospitality definitely left something to be desired. Service felt rushed - borderline irritated - and not once when we said “thank you” throughout the meal did we get a response. We would go back because the food was just that good, but I think we would try sitting at the bar to see if the experience was different.
Always reliable. Always excelkent
Service was ok to good. Nothing remarkable, but that’s ok.
Soup was interesting. Dining companions’ salads were adequate but something one could get pretty much anywhere.
My main issue is with the steaks two of us ordered. Both were well cooked but very poorly trimmed. They had substantial silverskin and gristle which made eating a less than good experience.
In contrast, the previous day, two of us had dined at Acorn in shadyside, where the food was unique and well prepared. Acorn was good to excellent. Legume was mediocre.
We were disappointed a little in the food selections. What we did have was good, but certainly nothing outstanding. I was also disappointed in the wine list. I would have perhaps 30% more selections from which to choose. IT was a nice experience. It just wasn't anything outstanding
I have always found the food to be exquisite, the service is perfect and friendly. I love the atmosphere, and will always come back.
I really enjoy this restaurant and go several times a year. Duck confit was excellent; also the tuna. Loved the chicken liver pate--silky smooth, beautifully flavored.
Excellent food and service. Must try!
I have heard great things. Wanted to try. Went on a Saturday night. We were told by the hostess kitchen closes at 9pm. It was 8:50. Yes we were late for our 8:30 reservations but I called ahead and they said it was fine. Plus why have reservations at 8:30 when kitchen closes at 9. Weird.
Ambiance—not what it could be. Pretty boring. Was expecting something more exciting. Food was fine. Wouldn’t go back when spending money for dinner and a babysitter.
Second time I have eaten here. Really phenomenal place. I like the small menu. One can tell they take a lot of pride in the preparation and presentation of the meal. Wait staff very attentive. Cant wait till next time.
I loved the confit duck leg, excellently prepared. And they had my favorite dessert, vinegar pie. Yum.
We really enjoyed Legume. The food was great. The cocktails were fantastic. The servers were warm and attentive but there were some hiccups. It’s really more like a 4-4.5.
Celebrating our anniversary
Our food was wonderful. Each dish was delicious and well-executed. We had seared tuna (Nicoise salad), pork, delicious wines (never a bad one on their wine list, honestly!) They know how to put together a perfect salad, which is rare these days. Despite being a very busy Saturday evening, service was good. Slightly more rushed than usual with many people serving us, but timely and accurate. The decor has changed and is a little busy and fussy for my taste. I prefer the simple, calming decor they used to have, with lots of interesting artwork. Not sure about the feathers and pastel lanterns hanging everywhere. I’m hoping they switch this out soon. Legume has always been a relaxing meal for us with excellent, friendly service. The service is still excellent but a little less personable and relaxed. We have been eating here since the month they opened in Regent Square.
Amazing experience from beginning to end. Every member of the staff was gracious, and gave excellent service. The table spacing is perfect, with plenty of room. The space had a vibrant energy, but it was not loud at all, making it easy to carry on conversations. The food and cocktails were outstanding across the board. Highly highly recommend ! Can not wait to come back to Pittsburgh and enjoy this fabulous restaurant!
Great small plates, always enjoy the atmosphere.
Legume was in our rotation for years until a couple of years ago when it began to feel stale. It is back and better than ever. Our meal was superb and the service was relaxed while still polished. We started with the borscht. It was complex and simply delicious followed by orders of sweet potato ravioli and a sublime pork dish. Both were exceptional. Our only disappointment was a pear and something crisp. It was just okay. Glad to have the new Legume back in our rotation.
It's so good, after coming on my first night in town I dragged my coworker to come back two days later!
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary with a few friends and had a wonderful experience at Legume. We’ve been here multiple times and it never disappoints. Our server Alex did a wonderful job making sure our food came out in a timely manner and our wine glasses were always full. The food at Legume is consistently fresh and hot. The menu is limited but diverse enough to satisfy most diners. We will definitely be back.
The food was delicious. They were out of two of the dishes that we had been looking forward to which was disappointing. The pork was very well cooked
Wonderful food and service. We were very pleased.
The only bummer was a very rude old lady next to us. I felt bad for the server, the lady was so rude and constantly demanding...
Great place! Food was fantastic and the vibe was good too!
We eat at Legume often; this last time was the first time that I thought the food was just so-so, not outstanding. The grilled Romaine salad arrived limp and swimming in dressing. The lamb stew seems overcooked, with the flavor boiled out of the lamb. Nothing was inedible, but it was not the usual excellent.
Although the menu is still short on choices, everything is very well prepared and delicious. The service was friendly and efficient. The ambiance is very relaxed, but classy. My wife and I have always enjoyed dinner here, and will continue to come, when we're in town.
The server was efficient, knowledgeable, and personable. I had the mangalista pork and my husband had the veggie crepe. We both thought we had the better dish.
Great service and food was great.
My wife is vegan and I was looking for a vegetarian option. We frequent Legume because of their vegetarian friendly menu and scratch kitchen. I went with their vegetarian flight (Corn Soup, Fried Indonesian Tempeh, and Rice Crepe). Every items was excellent. Also they make their own Tempeh (Wow). They had a swordfish entree as their fish option which disappointed me since swordfish is still being overfished. My wife wanted to try some of the vegetarian items and our server worked with the Chef to "veganize" a few of the items. There is nothing like a chef and server working together to make the dinner exception. Oh, I forgot to mention I started our the dinner with an Aviation cocktail which was perfectly made by their great bar team. We can't wait to book again.
Legume’s food is better than ever. There are times when I wish for a dish that’s no longer on the menu, but I do so appreciate that the kitchen is working with current ingredients. I will always go back.
Super delicious. Had the rice crepe. Love their cocktails, especially the negroni. Only complaint - it was extremely hot in the restaurant.
Wonderful food and surroundings
Busy place on a Tuesday
