I had a rather mediocre bowl of mussels in a tomato based sauce but my wife had an outstanding roasted chicken with brussel sprouts. This is a nice restaurant in the middle of Santana Row in San Jose. Good place to stop for food or a drink if you happen to be in that area. Wouldn't, however, make the drive for the sole purpose of eating there.

We love their onion soup and their steak au poivre. So, every time we are craving any of these two we head to Left Bank in Santana Row.

This restaurant has a weird "Happy Hour" policy - only available in the bar area or outdoor seating. (Both of which can be chilly, year round). I knew this. So when my reservation time of 5:45pm said "2 specials available", then gave me the option of choosing a beer-flight appetizer or Happy Hour specials, I assumed that it meant we would get happy hour deals at our table in the dining room. I asked at checkin and the hostess said "No, sorry, only in the bar area. " So I said, very nicely, "Then why did it offer Happy Hour" as a "Special bonus" on the OT app? "Sorry" she said "that's the policy". Upon which we were seated in the waaay back, by the kitchen. My wife blamed me for "complaining".
Our server was quite polite, and didn't mind that we were splitting an entree. But despite that, 1entree, 1 salad, 1 bowl of soup and a single glass of their cheapest wine came to $80, including tax but not tip.

Service is hit or miss. If you insist on getting good service, you can in most cases get it but it is not the default. There's one young male server guy (works the outdoor seating area) that is consistently disappointing. As an update: the store manager (abyers@) posted here that I should contact him by email. I did and he never responded. That makes an already-bad experience even worse!

The left bank fondue brings us back time and time again; it's a light and wonderful sunday brunch dish to share. The only blemish on the meal was a piece of paper in my wife's french onion soup that read "soup". when we showed our waiter, he immediately took it to the manager who brought a new soup and took it off the bill. While I'm not crazy about it happening, the way they took care of it shows why we keep coming back...and we will.

Left Bank is one of my go to restaurants on Santana Row and the service has varied over the years. But on this night, it was the worst I’ve seen. These were the things that happened. I also emailed the manager first and did not receive any response.

1. Our waitress spilled water on the table and we had to ask her to wipe it down. She did not completely wipe it down and looked as if we had put her out of the way by asking, so we cleaned up the rest after she left.
2. Quite a bit of time had passed from being seated and our waitress had not come back and we had to ask another waitress to help with our order and she told us that we were not in her area and walked away.
3. When our finally waitress arrived, I asked for a scotch menu and the waitress said that there was not one available. I then asked her to suggest some and she pointed at the rack behind her and told me to pick from there. I could barely see the bottles and had to guess at one.
4. After ordering, no one brought bread after some time and we had to ask a server passing by if we could get some and it felt as if we were also getting in the way of the server by asking.
5. We had ordered fries and asked for extra ketchup when it arrived. We never heard from the server and then asked our waitress as she passed by if we could get extra ketchup. After more time had passed and our waitress had not come back, we asked a third server if we could get extra ketchup. He came back and told us the restaurant had run out of ketchup and that was about 8:15pm to which we were very surprised.

Our waiter was very passive aggressive - screwed up my order, which then had to be remade, however, my husband was then finished with his dinner whilst I sat idly by.
Didn't seem to care - I have an expectation (or should I say, I had) that this restaurant would be a lot better. No apologies - nothing. Not worth it

I made a reservation for my mother in law birthday party for 8 people. All of us came on time but our table wasn’t ready. Instead they offered a table at the bar place by putting together three uneven tables without table clause. Looks like they weren’t ready for my reservation and I felt that we aren’t welcome here. Finally we got smaller table in the back corner. It’s took long time for waitress to start serving our table. We were waiting around 20 minutes for tap water.
Good that food was okay. Without any hesitation waitress asked if we are paying 18 or 20% tips. I paid 18% and until now do not understand what for.

Left Bank definitely gets the feel of a French bistro; maybe too well as service was inattentive. My wife and I were seated immediately for our reservation time, and then we waited quite awhile until someone came to ask if we wanted drinks. We did and they were well made. Once the drinks were delivered, we were asked what we wanted to eat without asking if we had any questions or telling us about specials. We started with the Onion Soup, as this is a pretty test for any French restaurant. Their rendition is good, but not great. The problem was that the person who brought the bowls to our table (not our waiter, which I hate), spilled my wife's soup leaving a trail across the tablecloth without saying a word and scooting away quickly. At this point we still hadn't received any bread for the table; it showed up as we were finishing our soup. No one came to check on whether we were happy with our soup. Entrees arrive, again by someone other than our waiter and with no questions as to whether we needed anything else (we had forgotten to order wine). My wife had the Moules Florentine, which she said was good, but again not great (the broth was a little bland). I had the Duck, which was very good and highly recommended. It was a good size breast, cooked perfectly. Our waiter did show up when we were half through to see if everything was ok. We decided not to order wine at this point. Plates were cleared quickly, our waiter came back for our dessert order. It felt rushed; like they wanted us to vacate the table (not that it was busy). We decided to oblige them and decline dessert in favor of walking down the street to Cocola, a nice French coffee/pastry shop. Not sure we'd come back the next time we're in the area. I should add that the busing staff were very attentive and professional.

We arrived at 3:40 and were given the lunch menus. At 3:55 the waiter brought out new nenus (dinner) and advised that they were changing over to dinner. When 2 of our party of 4 advised that we already had our selections made from lunch menu we were told that we could not order from that menu.
Really??? why not give us the option as it was still before 4pm and were given the lunch menu when we were seated!
How impossible was it to make the omelette and or sand which.???
No effort to accommodate us and very disappointing as out Bill was just short of $300 for a late lunch for 4.
Food was good but we most likely won’t be back

It was a terrible experience. We left after 25 minutes of sitting at our table with no service. We were starving and not one server made their way to our table to take our drink or food order. Also serving a fixed menu and we were not interested in that. The hostess at the front said we can order from the ala cart menu and then waiter said we couldn't. We left and took our party to Sino's next door. That is the second time I have been dissatisfied with Left Bank and wont go back.

The filet mignon was perfect tender and juicy and the salmon was also perfect!
please consider offering the filet mignon on a regular basis as the other states that you offer are not up to the quality of Left Bank.

Set price menu of $65 for a $35 meal :(
Also a “wage surcharge” added to the bill. When I asked if the wait staff actually received this wage surcharge, I was told no - it went to the owners of the chain!!

Took my wife and kids their for Valentines dinner. They had a valentines dinner menu but choices were limited and not worth $65/person for a three course meal. My kids left and went to the food court at the mall across the street. My wife and I ordered the three course meal. The portions were small.

The place definitely wasn’t ready to take all the customers on the Valentines Day. Soups weren’t hot enough and everything came out really late. My appetizer actually came out later than the first meal. But I guess this is normal for such a busy evening.

We have been to this Left Bank a number of times. Usually they are really good. This time is was for Valentine's Day. It was Prix Fix menu, a little pricey. We went for it. They were quite fast, but that made the meal timing a little off. I ordered a glass of Zin to go with my nice filet. It didn't arrive until I was almost done with my steak. My wife had cooked arugula as her vegetable, it was very bitter. I wonder if any of the staff tasted the menu items? Her soup and my salad were good. We ordered sparkling water and a coke for her. Asked for some ice on the side. She got a glass full of ice with coke. The fixed that, but I was noticing an unfortunate trend. The hostess was sweet and nice, but I wasn't sure if she was a regular there or someone that came in for the busy evening. Finally we had dessert. Wife had the warm chocolate with ice cream. I had the shortbread with strawberry sauce. Her's was better. Wife asked for an extra hot double cappuccino. It wasn't even regular hot. Mostly, it was luke-warm. I don't think we would go back for a special occasion. They are good for a normal night. Sorry Left Bank!

Had to ask the waiter for the complimentary bread. It was cold. Set menu. Not as good when it's not Valentine's. Served my onion soup without spoon

This is probably the worst mistake I made in deciding to eat here during lunch. Our server was inattentive and really took his own sweet time bringing the food to us. We were charged for extra 2 items that we did not order. I did not mind that it took a while for us to be seated, but it took more than 30 minutes before we got something to eat. No thanks.
