Left Bank Santana Row Ratings and Reviews
We went to Left Bank for my husband's birthday, and everything was PERFECT! The food (french onion soup, steak tartare, mussels, and steak frites) was all delicious, and the wine was a perfect pairing. Our waitress was phenomenal - from tastings of wine to replacing a dessert with which we were unhappy, she always had a smile and went above and beyond for our night. We'll definitely be back!
I had planned a special baby shower here with for five. We could not get waited on, they kept forgetting to bring our requests. Took over 20 minutes to get water and drinks. We ordered several appetizers, the sliders were dry and cold, the calamari wasn't crispy or seasoned, but the fried were okay. Salad was dry. If we had service, we could have ordered dinner and dessert but the waitstaff didn't seem to care. We left to go have dinner somewhere else! The hostesses were also not welcoming, we arrived at 5pm so it's not like the restaurant was packed or full. I mentioned this was a shower in my rsvp but nothing special about it and felt bad for the guest of honor. Will not be returning or recommending to others.
Hadn’t been here in a few years and this visit reminded us why. It’s very noisy, not only from an energetic crowd but also from the wait staff bussing tables into rolling carts and frequently dropping dishes or silverware.
The open kitchen is a nice concept but the whole restaurant (and our clothing) were permeated by the aroma of cooking.
The food itself is pretty good, if a bit garlicky. The beef tartare is quite good as is the trout almandine. The skirt steak was cooked properly to order.
Our wine, a second-growth Bordeaux, was also not bad at all.
Service was cheerful and friendly but a bit spotty. Our waitress got part of our order wrong and tried to convince us to eat the incorrect dish. At other times she disappeared for long intervals.
This place is fine if you like a very energetic scene but to us it felt more like a mess hall than a good restaurant.
The service is getting worst at this restaurant and the food is so so. After being seated, we had to wait 20 minutes to get a waiter to come over to get our drinks. Once we placed our orders, she would disappear for another 30min. We saw her twice in a duration of 2 hours. Without our waiter, it's impossible to get attention from other staffs. We didn't get water until an hour into our meal or no breads at all. Watching the food getting cold on the counter discouraging us to eat our meals. Steak is not seasoning well and it was cold when we get served. We used to dine at Left Bank one per month but this experience left a bad taste in our mouths and we probably won't come back.
I can’t be more happy with the level of service on September 30, 2017. From the host, our waiter, and the manager who helped served us. That night I surprised my girlfriend with an engagement ring and everyone who was involved made my table feel really special.. great customer service. I apologize I forgot everyone name
As usual, the food was excellent but the service was DREADFUL....waited too long for drinks to arrive. Used plates and glasses weren’t removed....server seemed disinterested in whether we were pleased with our dinner. It will be a long time before we return.
We went for weekend brunch and enjoyed the more breakfast-y options that you don’t see on their regular weekday menu.
The brioche french toast is absolutely a must order and must share brunch entree. Nominate someone in your group to be the lucky victim of this best-I’ve-ever-had-french toast and require their consent to share in advance – – and writing.
We arrived on time and were seated immediately with the choice of indoor or outdoor seating. We were the second table to be seated in the area but the last to receive bread or have our order taken. We ordered the Gambas et Chipirons for appetizer, Steak Frites, Risotto Vegetarien, a side of ratatouille, and a glass of wine for each of us. Our server forgot to put in our appetizer order, which we only realized once our entrees arrived. Even then, it took asking two different people to actually have someone put the order in. For these reasons, a mention of poor service is a must in this review...
As for the food itself, I would highly recommend the Steak Frites! The steak was so tender and the sauce (au poivre) was to die for. And even though fries aren't often considered a fancy food, these were amazing in the way that McDonald's friends are crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. However, not much else on the menu was worth the price. The risotto was under cooked and the gambas and ratatouille were nothing special, though I must say that I am impressed by the freshness and quality of their ingredients!
In addition, I had put in my reservation that we were there for a birthday but they did nothing special. I'm not sure if the other tables who were there celebrating birthdays had specifically asked for something special, but I was sorely disappointed that the special occasion was not addressed despite my comment.
All in all, I would not actively choose to return unless at the request of other party members. My parents were excited to try this place until I told them my sad review :(
Easy to get a reservation. We chose to eat "al fresco" (outdoors) and the Left Bank got us thinking about a trip to Paris!
The Open Table app indicated"Special" for our choice of reservation, which turned out to mean "Happy Hour". But we had to ask our server for the happy hour menu- some great discounts! Especially the fondue - just breads & melted cheese, but oh, so good! Our salads were excellent (mine was the spinach). We like this place, but this time our server was a bit inexperienced, though sweet.
The service is low due to the woman who seated us. Initially she tried to place us indoors. I said I requested outdoors, she retorted "you have to reservations for outdoor seating." After a bit we ended up outside.
Food was meh. Not bad, not outstanding, it was average. Nothing really sticks out. Then again we were there for the company, not the food.
Sitting outdoors was the best experience of the time we were there.
We had wonderful food ; the steak tartar and cheese fondue were remarkable. The duck entree was a hit with two of us. I wanted to try the ratatouille, but will not repeat this choice. My sole criticism was that service was spotty. The server who took our order was not the person who delivered the food, and although he came back to take orders for each course, he never checked back while we were in progress. Hence, one of us had the snails, but no fork for them. We had to beg for extra bread for the cheese fondue. And worst of all, two of us were promptly served a dessert, but the other two had to wait (and wait and wait) to get the dessert wine that supposedly have been their "dessert". These were served only after flagging down another server to check on the missing order... something that could have been avoided had our order-taker simply checked back with us to see how were were doing.
I loved the food and the ambiance, I surprised my husband for his birthday. When I made the reservations thru the internet it had an area for special instructions.
I wrote that I didn't want the staff to sing happy birthday, But to bring my husband a small cake as a symbol of his birthday. I know is petty but my husband didn't get his cake, I didn't tell my husband about it.
We went here for my birthday dinner with my family. Overall a very bland and rather disappointing experience. Service was lackluster, didn't even receive a happy birthday greeting even though they were prompted beforehand. Restaurant was relatively empty about a 1/4, but service was awfully slow. There was grease on the bottom of the bread basket that they gave us and it left a lovely orange streak on our table for the duration of the meal. Probably won't ever come back here.
Our son had the steak salad, my wife had the Mussels, I had the Ahi Sandwich, and we shared the Steak Tartare. We have had Steak Tartare through out the SF Bay Area, and we found this to be one of the best within the SF Bay Area. We still prefer the Steak Tartare in Paris on multiple occasions, but this one at the Left Bank came in a close second place!
The steak salad was very good according to our son. I had a decent portion of my wife's Mussels, and they were good, but not as well prepared and as tasty as the Copenhagen Mussels in April 2016. My Ahi Sandwich was very good with the bacon and the tangy wasabi taste.
We have dined many times at La Folie. I find the Left Bank to be an excellent casual dining experience, and will go back as soon as we can.
Glad to find a Left Bank in San Jose. This was an important business meeting, and the service and food was great. I have a very restricted diet. While the menu as written wasn't great for me, they were very flexible and followed instructions well, so I was able to have a great meal.
Service was spotty, many waits in between course w lack of refreshments and wine 15 mins after main meal placed on table, French fries cold, French bread not fresh and for sure no relation to French, more like Safeway on the fly. A bit disappointing on the details, but main dishes cooked nicely.
The service is pretty bad and the food is mediocre. We waited for 20 minutes before the waiter showed up. The waiter seems unhappy to server. We had to ask for water and bread, etc or we don't get served. It is an awful experience. The restaurant don't seem to have enough waiters to serve the customers.
We LOVE our server Jared who recently got promoted to Bar Manager, and we were sad to part with him. However, we also met a great new server named Marshall. He's just as amazing as Jared in terms of friendliness, knowledge about the menu, honest when he doesn't know something, and times the courses out as perfectly as if you were in a real Parisian cafe. He never interrupted a conversation or something didn't come out on time. We had the table as long as we wanted, and the service was tres excellent!
Food is always good-- the service, Jared and Marshall are why we keep coming back! Best part is, they greet us by name.
I was so disappointed in the food. Our server was wonderful. We were a party of 5. One other lady and I ordered eggs benedict. My eggs were not cooked. The whites were still raw. The ham was just plain lunch meat ham. The hollandaise sauce had no flavor. Another lady ordered the chicken breast sandwich. The chicken was not cooked! This was a special day as it was a thank you for the ladies that helped me with my son and daughter-in-law's wedding three weeks before. I picked The Left Bank because I thought it was special. Not anymore. You've lost me as a customer nor will I recommend it to anyone.
