Left Bank is an authentic Parisian-style brasserie located in San Jose's vibrant Santana Row. Open since 2003, Left Bank transports guests to a quaint brasserie in Paris, where diners feast upon classic French cuisine in a charming brasserie setting along the boulevard, where people watching is at its best. We were there for brunch , my husband and I , and 2 daughters. The server wasn't there for us . The table next to ours was seated after us and served right away.
We had to call somebody to at least bring some water ! The "countertop" , which is located in the middle of the restaurant , just behind us , needs to be cleaned at least once in a while : it was full of visible dust ...
When finally the server came , they were courteous , and the food was ok, not great. My quiche was good but but the presentation was really boring : salad on a small plate, and a piece of quiche on another plate by itself. My daughter's scrambled egg with salmon , also boring : just a soup dish with the scrambled egg, nothing to accompany , no bread , no salad...
But the almond apple cake was delicious ! The saver of the day !

We enjoy Left Bank for Sunday brunch. Even with a drizzly Sunday, the atmosphere is warm and inviting inside. Love the food, consistenly good and the truffle fries are outstanding.

Went here for date night. Pate appetizer was ok, but uninspired. Special Rhone wine flight was unremarkable. Beef Bourguignon was impressively quite dry and chewy. Not your best bet at Santana Row.

Onion soup was good. Cheese fondu was also good. Other food though was typical of the Bay Area, not cooked by French cooks...not at all. So if you are not from France, have never been there and never tasted French cooking and work as a cook in a French Restaurant, then you really have no idea what you are doing. So congrats on the fondu and the bowl of soup, but the rest of it really tasted like something from the cooks at Dennys or IHOP.

We made a reservation a week before and we made sure to arrive on time but had to wait 20 min to sit down. They then wanted to seat us in an outside extension room that was overheated and stuffy, so we asked to sit somewhere else, they refused and said it’s the assigned table for you. We asked to talk to the manager and yes he was able to accommodate us and he moved us. The service was very poor, they were overwhelmed with VDay. We ordered appetizers, one of them never showed up, dinner came so we asked to cancel it. We asked for bread twice when we sat down, and it never came! Over priced set menu and servers not trained to handle busy holiday celebrations! It was very unfortunate because it wasn’t only Valentine’s Day but our daughter’s 17th birthday, Won’t be going there again:(

I had really high expectations for this place. We ate here on V'day and most of our food was cold and bland. I ordered from the Prix Fix menu and my partner ordered from the regular menu. My lobster was cold and had zero seasoning. My partner's salmon was overcooked. The server was not very attentive and honestly treated us as if he did not want to be there. Everyone received a Rose except for us. We were so frustrated with the sub-par food and service that we did not bother to complain, paid for our food and left. We drove from Oakland to San Jose so this truly was a complete waste of our time. Maybe this was an "off" night!

We had a Valentine's lunch and our reservation was for 11:45. We were seated promptly, but for some reason the service was very slow and took an hour to get our food. This left a bad taste in our mouth considering the occasion.

The Open Table reservation process asks about special occasions, which we had filled out. No acknowledgment of the occasion, a crappy table that was absurdly dark, and general "you're not worthy" vibe from the hostess/seaters. Server was pretty good, food was fine. But I left with a bad taste in my mouth from the attitude.

My husband and I had a wonderful time. The food and service was fantastic. It was our first time at Left Bank. We were celebrating our 40th Anniversary. The restaurant gave us free champagne and dessert! We were very happy and completely satisfied.

I really like the Left Bank. I've had excellent meals there and great experiences. This past Sunday wasn't up to usual standards, but if nothing else, it was a lovely day and we had an outside table so it was a lot about location, location, location. This occasion was lunch with friends, one of whom came down from San Francisco to join us. The host was very kind in accommodating our request for an outside table. I get that it's first come, first serve, but on a sunny day they ought to open up the side section so more people get a chance to enjoy the ambience.

The food was spotty. My husband loved his pork hash and my friend's steak frites were perfect. Two of us had the ham cheese omelette. Mine was not great. The egg part was OK although not super hot by the time it reached me. But the ham was cold and the cheese hadn't melted at all. I don't like to fuss about food when I've brought guests so I let it go but it was disappointing. There's something about an omelette done well and I was looking forward to it.

There were other trivial glitches, but they add up: My husband ordered coffee but the server forgot. Then she brought a cup without a saucer. Also the coffee had been spilled all over the cup so it looked like a dirty dish out of the dishwasher. We had to ask for bread (in a French restaurant?!). All in all, the server was pleasant and willing to be helpful but seemed inexperienced. I still really like the Left Bank, and I'm sure I'll be back, but I hope this isn't a trend because that would be sad.
