Left Bank Santana Row Ratings and Reviews
We arrived about 10 minutes before our reservation time. We were told that we would be seated closer to our reservation time. We ended up waiting 45 minutes for a table WITH a reservation. It would have been nice if we were told upon arrival that they were running behind schedule. At least then we would have been prepared to wait.
I’ve always enjoyed Left Bank, however this time left a lot to be desired. The service was extra slow and intrusive. Our server forgot our dessert and we had to flag him down 20 minutes after we ordered it. In general I was not impressed. The location is convenient, but that would be the only reason I would return. They do have great french fries.
Used to like Left Bank ... seems the quality and service has gone down ... I realize the Holidays May have something to do with the rushed atmosphere and lack of good service by staff there.
The ribeye was mediocre at best for the price.
Won’t be going back for awhile .... noise level was higher than normal but it was probably due to all the holiday parties that evening .
Would probably only go back for a brunch but not for dinner.
I've been here many times, but this time
Service was poor. Server didn't know the specials, forgot to bring out bread, forgot my soup all together. Didn't offer us dessert, we had to ask for dessert menu. We were seated in the bar area, so the server was in black which I think meant he was a bar tender.
Food was tasty, unfortunate experience.
This is my favorite restaurant in Santana Row. I feel like I'm back in France when I eat there. The hostesses could be more helpful however. There were 3 hostesses today when I went there to meet my sisters for a birthday lunch. I made reservations at 12:45, but a table was not ready when I arrived (I was the first to arrive) so they asked me to wait. I sat on a bench in the waiting area and waited and waited. Finally my sister called to see where I was. I told her I was waiting for a table and she said that she's at the table. They sat her as soon as she arrived but never bothered to tell me that the table was ready! I was a bit annoyed but after that, the service was quite nice by the waitress and the others.
Disappointing dining experience today. Food was alright, but service was lacking. It took forever to get water refilled and the waitress never cleared our plates between courses or after. Additionally, the restaurant attempted to place that "wage surcharge" on our bill. I objected and requested it be removed from our bill. A manager attempted to argue with me about it. Then he made us wait an unusual length of time for our bill to be processed. Restaurants should just raise their prices than attempt this surcharge nonsense.
Ted was attentive and provided excellent service! In general we were afforded seating in a prompt fashion and our request for additional space for one of our guests provided. It was a positive and pleasant dining experience. Back to the service provided, the wait staff was the best aspect of meal. We were treated exceptionally well and are appreciative!
When visiting Santana Row we always head over to Left Bank for a nice lunch. I had the Salmon Hash this time. We were a party of 3. It was just okay. Some potatoes with 5 pieces of salmon and and egg on top. Nothing to write home about. Wish I ordered something else.
Normally the service is on point but his time around it was extremely slow. We arrived at 11:15. We received our appetizer of mussels and fries at 11:35. We waited and waited...the waiter kept saying that our meals will be coming out. We finally received our meals at 12:20. By then lost my appetite.
It was a shame hopefully this was "one of those days" of experiences.
Also, if Left Bank is reading this, they should get new (stronger) exhaust system in their kitchen. Very smoky and after a couple of hours we tend to smell like we've been cooking near a fryer.
Food - Overpriced and ok ok.
Waitress - Thump UP
Environment - Good to chill out
My most favorite experience is - the best waitress was sent to our table. She is an amazing waitress and she has to be a role model for everyone. she proactively signed ‘thank you’ plus she was super friendly. Got to admit - we were not comfortable with other staff as they continued to stare at us - we are deaf and communicate in American Sign Language. She is the best ever I have ever had in the whole SJ area.
As for food, I ordered Pork Chop and my friend ordered Hamburger. Pork Chop was too thick that I had to take longer to cut into pieces but tasted good helping by soft textures and delicious sauce. Wish baby carrot or veg would be added to this dish. Mashed potato was the only side which was a bad idea. Not what the dish looked like in France. Cuz of that, $21 was a bit overpriced.
Hamburger meat was over burnt - black. Poor my friend that he had to wait for 15 minutes for another dish. Despite this, I was impressive the restaurant apologized to him by offering a free meal.
Overall, beautiful environment and super champ waitress helped us feel good leaving. However, I hesitate if I should be back and/or recommend this restaurant.
I'm starting to wonder if the restaurant model can remain viable. We had the $54 prix fixe Thanksgiving dinner. But with three glasses of wine between us, two teas, tax, 4% living-wage surcharge, and tip, dinner came out to $214.
That would be fine for exceptional food, but it was just OK—nothing to complain about, but not memorable either. My friends can cook a turkey just as well and Thanksgiving dinner can be had at someone's house for maybe one-tenth the cost per person, if that.
Better experience this time around since it was lunchtime on a weekday. When they get really busy they totally lose it. Hamburger was good. Butter lettuce salad was excellent. Profiteroles are also quite good too. Eggplant sandwich was not as good as it was when it had been on the menu before. It tasted like they had soaked the eggplant in vinegar.
The food is great! The ambiance was a bit loud, but that speaks to the number of people that were enjoying a nice meal when I was there. It was my first dinner there, though I've eaten lunch at this location on many occasions. Overall it was a great experience.
I came here for a birthday dinner this week. We started with the prawns & they were good. I had the duck which was a bad choice. It was undercooked, had little flavor & it was a small portion. My dining partner had the chicken which was good. It was a large portion & flavorful. I have eaten here a few times, just avoid the duck.
How nice to find really authentic French bistro food along with a nice atmosphere including white tablecloths, very good service, and decent prices. The three of us each had a delicious meal: salad Lyonnaise, risotto with duck and mushrooms, steamed mussels, and trout, followed by a nice pumpkin cheesecake, which was light and mousse-like rather than heavy. We will be back!
Overall it's a mixed review, because I don't think I would go back unless someone else really wanted to. There are so many other fine dining options here in the south bay that for the price of have better service.
I work in the wine industry and a coworker mentioned they went last year for the Beaujolais release celebration but had a mixed review. Food was good. The accordion player was wonderful. But I made reservations in advance and they sat us at the worst table when many were open. Bad because it was by a back door where they had a private party outside in a tented area on a freezing and rainy night going in and out. Cant, you sit walk-ins back there? Also, our server was mostly absent when we wanted to order wine flights so we didn't, and also must have miss communicated with the staff because our prefix dessert came before our entree.
I ordered the lamb croquet which comes with an arugala salad, however it came served with french fries and no salad. The waiter didn't comment on the change or say anything about it. We were there at 11:30, second group to be seated, so they didn't run out of salad. Two pieces of the lambwete grisselly.
Enjoy this restaurant 3-4 times a year. Went for the annual Christmas Tree lighting this particular occasion. Despite being completely overbooked they were still cheerful and did the best they could with service. The pinot noir was pretty good as was the martini. One thing they need to work on is making sure they have enough of the appropriate glassware for these busy evenings. Drinking a martini from a brandy glass just loses something.
It was as if we didn't exist. Our four member family booked reservations on Open Table in hopes of enjoying a Sunday Brunch. We arrived a few minutes ahead of our reservations on 11/12/17. The restaurant was not busy and we were seated right away. Then, we waited, and waited, and waited while servers, busboys, and even the hostesses walked right by us avoiding looking directly at us. Several times I tried to get the attention of one of the servers , but they hurried away without ever acknowledging us. Nobody ever showed up at our table to offer even a glass or water. When we finally did decide to get up and leave, the hosts who sat us down thanked us for coming in assuming we had already eaten. The manager was nowhere to be found or we would have addressed our displeasure with him/her. There is no reason for this lack of service . Even Denny's restaurants have standards that require their table staff to promptly greet and acknowledge a guest within 2 min of the guest being seated. Yet, Left Bank can't meet those standards while charging significantly higher prices.
