FRENCH ONION SOUP
brown butter, roasted almonds, green beans
half dozen raw market selection
The atmósfera was very nice, the night was at 53 degrees. But in the patio seating was like 70 degrees. So I really like that !!! Good service and good food!!
This place is a joke. Everything came out late and wrong. Completely ruined my dad birthday
Left Bank does not accomodate deviation from the menu if you want any additions. It is a constant conversation with them every time where they say they don't have an ingredient but when you challenge that they have it on the menu in other places they finally agree. On this occassion I just decided not to argue further but does mean I probably won;t be back
I really want to like Left Bank, and keep coming back, but have left several times underwhelmed by the food. It is OK, not great.
Our waitress was absolutely fantastic but I have to say I was expecting more from the dinner menu. I had visited on valentines day for brunch and was head over heals for the French toast and fondue. I ordered salmon and have to say I was expecting more flavor from both the salmon and the Brussel sprouts.and it just wasn't there. The nicoisse salad packed a lot of flavor and was happy I ordered it.
Left Bank was very good. The steak I ordered was cooked perfectly. The cocktails were excellent. The desert was exquisite. I would definitely good again to sample the rest of the menu.
Service and food was excellent. The outdoor dining was good, but wished out patio heater stayed on.
I ordered the french onion soup and found it to be disappointing. It seemed that
the soup was made in large batches ahead of time and was on the dry side. My
daughter ordered the green butter leaf salad with salmon . She asked for the salmon
medium rare. The salmon had to be returned as it was similar to a hockey puck. The
replacement salmon was perfect. All in all, we weren't all that happy with our meal.
Food was excellent. Our waiter was on too of it and very attentive and quick with our order. Ambience was a little loud since the restaurant next door was playing music with outside dining a little louder than normal but made for a lively experience. Felt safe during Covid and had all the tables spaced and masks being worn.
We had to sit in a back outside room. Service was not what it used to be. It was still wonderful but COVID does change the experience. The food drinks and appetizer were delicious. This is still my favorite restaurant. I’ll be back!
We made reservations, when we arrived we were seated right away the service and the food were very good. The atmosphere was done well considering Covid.
Left Bank experience was very pleasant as usual. Staff heeded health protocols. Service was satisfactory except that initial bill incorrectly included an item which we ordered but then were told that it was not available. Correct bill was produced when server was informed of error.
How to rate an outside dining experience during COVID restrictions when the outdoor temperature was not ideal... Despite the required outdoor dining requirement, we made the reservation for 7pm, as the Left Bank posted they had patio heaters to make it more 'enjoyable'. Our table was ready shortly after our reservation time! But, when we reached the table and asked to light the patio heater, we were informed that they were out of propane. We were dressed for sitting outdoors in the evening, but not prepared for a lengthy stay exposed to the elements... The staff was doing their ultimate best to help everyone as fast as possible, but it was really a long wait for our food to arrive. The food quality/quantity was good (as expected). The overall dining experience was much depressed, as we were really getting cold and uncomfortable.
Our experience, of course, would have been more pleasant if we would have dined during the day or with more pleasant outdoor temperature. COVID restrictions make it tough to enjoy dinner on cold/chilly evenings... Still, we were glad to be able to 'support' our local restaurants during these trying times.
Celebrating bday. I specifically requested to be under the warmers. When we arrived we are told they dont have propane tanks. They had about 10 warmers; 2 had fire going. Not impressed. It was a Monday and still busy because coz of holiday. The manager had little to no service / communication skills.
The food was decent. We were told they had lobster ravioli with chunks of lobster as specialty- bday girl chose that and it turned out to be lobster fettuccini pasta with a kick. Spicy! It was tasty just not expected.
Salmon was a touch over cooked. The beef bourguignon was excellent. The french onion soup was good. Wine choices were also decent. We got a bottle
Consistently good food in attractive surroundings, currently outdoors at Santana Row. Can't go wrong for lunch or dinner!
I reserved a table for Valentine's day for 4:30 in the afternoon. We arrived early and were seated promptly. The table was on the sidewalk, not under the covered area with the finished raised platform. I went back in and asked them if they could move us as I was going to propose marriage and didn't want to kneel on the side walk with everyone stepping over me. They didn't even bat an eye and immediately moved us to a nice covered table lit by some attractive flaming heaters. The service was excellent all around. The manager came out to thank us and congratulate both my fiancé and myself (she said yes!) on our engagement right as we were standing to leave. If I have any criticism it would be that I had ordered my filet to be prepared medium rare and it was very medium and not at all rare. Still it had great flavor and the presentation was nice. It was a very special day.
So I reserved this restaurant with an open mind that the service and food would be bad due to Covid-19. This was a Valentine dinner reservations. We ordered from the pre fixed menu. Note there was no other options and I was ok with that. We also ordered the pre-fix wine pairing that was recommend by there sommelier so it said on there menu.
We also ordered appetizer the fondue and Liver pate both were good not bad. we also ordered two cocktails to prime the pump again not bad. Now moving onto dinner first course Pear Salad with goat cheese no dressing I guess they forgot lol. First wine pairing one white wine one red wine ok they made a mistake strike one. Second course mushroom soup again lol so thick you could stand a spoon in it. here comes the second wine pairing again one red and one white Strike two . At this point I asked the server is this the wine pairing for this course he just shrugged his shoulders so I laughed with him not at him. I asked please get your manager after a conversation with manager he apologized and said he would correct it lol again laughed with him and not at him strike three. The meal would only go down hill from there. In short we spent over $300 for a lessoned learn. The funny thing is they have a posting on there window " the finest French restaurant in San Jose" Again I laughed with them and not at them. Save your money go some where else. Hope things get better for the Left Bank after Covid-19
We have been to the LB many times. Food quality was good but service was off a bit for this Valentines Day meal. Staff were working hard but I think they were overwhelmed and distracted given virus concerns. Our waitress was attentive but could have used more help.
LEFT BANK Santana Row is consistently wonderful place to dine, whether lunch or dinner and considering how good the food and service has been thru the years, I've gotta admit it's quite reasonable price wise.
Very cute Valentine’s Day menu and had cute seating under heat lamps! Loved it ❤️
Unfortunate service experience. I got to the front podium to check in for my reservation. Someone was in front of me. When it was my turn to check in, no greeting at all! I was in a staring contest with a man and woman at the podium. When I said my name for the reservation, they said absolutely nothing to me. They just grabbed menus and walked outside so I assumed the man wanted me to follow him. When we sat down, we had to ask for water. We then had to ask for someone to get a waiter to take our drink order. We then had to ask for someone once again to get a waiter for a food order.
Hostess left me on the phone for 15 minutes, forgot to answer. Got to restaurant, was put away from heaters in 60 degree weather as she funneled other patrons to heated lamps (everybody was table for 2)
Besides freezing in a corner, food was good
Great food, friendly service, heaters were outside that kept us warm. Highly recommended!
Food was great but a definite highlight was our wonderful waitress. Great service, always there to refill and ask if we needed anything more. If I could have her every time I’d be happy.
Food was fantastic. Service was very slow.like no silverware or water service like 20 minutes. Once the food arrived, we were happy
The ambience was pleasant as was the food. Highly recommend the oysters and French fries!
Service was very pleasant.
The food and service was excellent but food cost was on the high side. A basket of bread was $6 and I don’t recall having to pay for it there before.
We love this place and drove an hour to come for the Escargot, which is on point and still perfection. French onion soup was very good, but somewhat disappointed with the soup size. We have had equally as good, if not better of French Onion soup for twice the quantity. Overall we came here for the atmosphere and the escargot.
I ordered the duck with polenta, no polenta they just substituted it for mashed potatoes without telling me, i ate it anyways because I’m 36weeks pregnant, super hungry and couldn’t complain to anyone anyways because the sever came around only after id finished eating.
The setup during COVID seemed ridiculously safe. No table had more than 4 people and the closest table to us was 10 feet away. Servers had on PPE and were well distanced. I would not hesitate to go there again.
Please note, Left Bank has, for a few years now, added a surcharge to "keep up with minimum wage". While I hate hidden costs and wish the menu items were just increased 25-35% for tax, tip and a surcharge, its easy enough to just be aware that those $8 brussell sprouts are going to set you back more like $11-12 when you sign the check.
This is one our traditional favorite places for lunch so I hate to be negative, especially during the disruption caused by Covid protocols. However, any restaurant that fails to honor a reservation timely gets a big ding. We were seated more than 1/2 hour after our reservation and the front desk host did nothing to mitigate the delay with status reports or apologies.
We were a party of 4. We ordered nothing complicated, yet our waiter made 2 mistakes (resolved easily and with a smile). Service was slow and chaotic, but I think the restaurant was short of staff and was trying to make do as best it could. This was not its finest hour, but we’ll be back.
Solid, unsurprising bistro. Good service. OK wine list. Consistent food.
Bad experience with server Sergio. Sarcastic & border line rude when taking our order. My friends cancelled their dinner order & we left.
I've been coming to Left Bank for years & food quality has gone down. Oysters were pretty bland and we paid $6/- for bread & butter🤨!
I don't think I'll go back to the Left bank & will probably caution my friends too.
We found the brunch menu a little too limited. Missed some things from the regular menu
A true French brasserie with all the good French dishes!
Reserved the table with family for anniversary celebration. The food was terrible. Fish was not fresh and chicken overcooked. Prices are high and quality of food terrible. The server could see that food was subpar but didn’t offer replacement. I would not go there again.
Great to see so many happy faces. Everyone was so appreciative of having a nice warm meal, it had been months since we were out for a meal and Left Bank always is our go to place. Drinks were exceptional and our server, Hector was attentive and accommodating. Thank you.
Well, outside in the tent. Not all heaters working, out of propane
We love Left Bank but last night was rough. The service was super slow. It took a awhile for our server to even appear. Food took a while and my friend’s dinner came with cold fries while my dinner was fine. Bad timing on the kitchen’s part. Same with dessert - dessert came first and we finished before our coffee came. Like I said, it was a rough night.
