Left Bank Santana Row Ratings and Reviews
Made a reservation for 5:30 so we could have dinner and walk over to catch a 7:00 movie. Showed up at 5:30, was seated at 5:40. The waiter was great, very nice guy and polite, but it took forever to get our food.
Drinks came quickly, the fondu came in a reasonable time too - which was excellent, one of my favorite things on the menu, but then something went wrong. We waited and waited and waited for our meal. It finally arrived at 6:45, giving us just a few min to eat and make the 5 min walk to the theater. We ended up missing the beginning of Star Wars, which was a bummer.
I've been here several times, and have always enjoyed the food and for the most part have good experiences, but this time they were off for some reason. Too bad.
Very disappointing experience. Arrived early for our reservation and we weren't seated until 20 minutes after our reservation time. After we were seated, it took an hour to get our appetizers. There were 4 of us and the meals came out in twos. One meal was served cold. The food was good, but I wouldn't say outstanding. The service was beyond awful. We asked to see the manager and he/she never came around. This was a pricey meal and definitely not worth it. I wouldn't go back.
First date. Left Bank is a plus. Trout Amandine was good but I like Fish Markets better. Pretty noisy and busy. Good for them but not so much for a romantic date.
But using OT was fantastic as people were seated everywhere waiting for a table. We walked up to the maitre di and were seated immediately!
I was pleasantly surprised by my experience at Left Bank. I entered 5 minutes before my reservation and there two other people waiting to check in and at least 15 people inside waiting to be seated. A gentleman was arguing with the hostess about the wait time to sit for dinner. She told him there was a long wait list for walk ins as he didn't have a reservation. I felt bad for the hostess for this persistent gentlemen but she held her ground. I'm thinking to myself, "great, now I'm gonna have to wait a half hour past the reservation time I have." Well, not the case. I checked in and immediately my party get seated. The waiter came and introduced himself. He was terrific. He helped us select cocktails and a bottle of champagne. I ordered the butternut squash rigatoni. It was terrific. My husband ordered something else but I didn't look because i didn't want to ask and I didn't want to have to share. I look forward to my next meal there.
Food was ok. Everything tasted fine, but nothing particularly special. The portions could be a bit larger, especially for the dessert.
The 5% wage surcharge is just ridiculous. Add that extra 5% to your menu prices! Telling me that you have to charge me extra 5% so you can pay your waiting staff better is not going to get any sympathy from me. What it tells me instead is that you are trying to blame your wait staff for the price increase and that you didn't pay them enough before the new wage law comes to effect and now have to give them raises.
Lackluster service and even more boring food. Took me FOREVER to get my cocktail after ordering. My whole reaction to this place was simply "meh." Brussels sprouts were mushy and overcooked. Calling lardo bacon is misleading. They should also LIST onions on the ingredient list for the Brussels sprouts, too. I LOATHE them and they were simply smothered in them. Yuck! Roasted beet "salad" was also misleading. It was chunks of roasted beets. Nothing else on the plate. That's not a salad, guys. Disappointing.
This was a New Year reservation. We requested a table in the main dining room by the window. Our request was not read, and we received a table in the back room and the very corner table against the back wall! The room was completely neglected by restaurant staff in terms of service, music and party favors. Our hostess had a very aggressive attitude, when we questioned our table, and had no idea about our request. Manager came up 20 min later with a story if why we did not get a table. New Year favors were not brought to the back room until we questioned it, and were told there is not enough for all, and the music was turned on for 1 min after the New Year. The hostess brought leftover favors in a cardboard box, and after handing out the leftovers, left the box on the table. Service and food was mediocre, and expensive. My fillet was cold, as were potatoes. We felt like an after thought, and completely neglected by restaurant staff and management. Do not consider this restaurant for any special occasions! Do not agree to sit in the back room! Overall a terrible experience!
The waiter gave us an excellent service! But the front desk it is another story we waited more than an hour to get a table we didn't request. Left bank made too many reservations that night and had a hard time accommodating their customers requests especially ours! Quel dommage!
It was New Year's celebration and the staff was a little overwhelmed with people not leaving their table, resulting in 45 minutes delay for seating...
However, the food was very good. We had the prix fix with a nice filet mignon or lobster tail, perfectly well cooked. The chef should learn how to do a traditional "chèvre Chaud" but his version was still fresh and good. The cheese fondue is always a great start!
Shame. I've always liked Left Bank but tonight was not their finest hour. New Year's Eve, so admittedly they were very busy, but the service was slow and shambolic and most of our meals had to go back because they were stone cold. The food actually tasted good, and it was my first bad experience here, so willing to give them the benefit of the doubt but tonight was disappointing
Granted, we were there for NYE, but the food was mediocre and definitely not worth the price. My $32 bouillabaisse was 1/3 the volume I've had in other restaurants, and the only TWO and fully unshelled shrimp were awkward and dangerous to open while swimming in a tomato base sauce. I will not go back, nor will my 2 friends.
We are regular Left Bank Santana Row patrons. Our experience on Saturday was disappointing. They just could not get the service right. We ordered drinks and they brought the appetizers first.... then quickly brought the main course before we had even finished our cocktails. We ordered wine but it did not show up until we were mostly done with the main course. We ordered french fries side and that also was late in showing up and only after I asked about it. The food was also ho hum. Maybe the bad service influenced my opinion
When receiving the the bill there was a 5% wage surcharge. When asked, we were told minimum wage was going up as of January 1st 2018. To keep costs down on menu items we needed to pay this wage surcharge.
Considering it was December 24,2017 we felt they were stealing.
I asked the waiter if he was receiving the money and he said no. The waiter and the manager had said they had received complaints from other people.
This restaurant has become a traditional venue for pre-Christmas dinner with friends and family. Had dinner with my son before attending a movie. Thankfully we had lots of time because our waiter forgot we were there. Took over 20 minutes for him to take our drink orders. We shared the cheese fondue. We were somewhat disappointed that the fondue was mostly blue cheese vs. Swiss. The onion soup was delicious. Once we were served, service was pretty routine.
Food was amazing as always. I really like Left Bank, but it always takes so long for the food to be served. I had a large group for this lunch - 9 people - and had made a reservation in advance. Our lunch reservation was for 11:45 and we were all there on time. Our food was served to us at 12:45. Good thing they had bread/butter on the table. It had been awhile since I was there last and I hoped the kitchen would have picked up speed. It hadn't.
I had lunch there recently , and it was delicious. Great service and food both. I had the trout which was flavorful and very well prepared. My friend wanted more shrimp in her dish and no mussels. They were very pleasant about making the change. On Sunday I had brunch with another friend and was disappointed with my eggs Benedict. The eggs were perfectly poached. However, I didn't particularly care for the ham, and the English muffin was much too thin to absorb the sauce and toppings. My friend had the salmon hash and really enjoyed her dish. We both ordered the Bloody Mary's which were a bit too spicy but did have a nice piece of speared bacon with olives for a garnish. I could have had a plate of those and been happy. We split the apple & almond cake. It was quite good, moist without being too heavy and was accompanied by a boat of creme Anglais. Mmmmm ...
The hostess first attempted to seat us 15 min after our reservation outside in the cold. We were then sat in the bar, to which she oddly stated that happy hour ended 15 mins ago, but if we were still there at 9:30 (3 hrs later) it would be back on. Our server greeted our table and hurriedly asked us if we wanted drinks or appetizers. Our fondu arrived before our drinks - and we were literally IN the bar and watched him quickly pour wine. He had to be flagged down (after our appetizer was done) to take our dinner order. Our food arrived, yet again before our drinks. He was obviously very busy and seemed quite flustered. Whenever he was at our table he just rushed thru whatever he was asking. We've been a handful of times to Left Bank, but I'd steer clear during the holidays.
We went to celebrate our daughter's birthday. The food was all very good. We enjoyed ourselves despite the fact that our waiter (who was very nice, when he was there) went missing for long periods. In fact, after a very long wait for the bill, we finally had to ask someone else to retrieve it for us. We saw lots of bustling by several people to locate the bill and the waiter. Both finally showed up without any explanation. We've been here many times before and always have had a terrific meal and service, so this was very unusual.
We arrived about 10 minutes before our reservation time. We were told that we would be seated closer to our reservation time. We ended up waiting 45 minutes for a table WITH a reservation. It would have been nice if we were told upon arrival that they were running behind schedule. At least then we would have been prepared to wait.
