Our Salles De Amis is a beautiful private mezzanine. You can choose to overlook the main dining room from the balcony, or enclose the room completely with our lush velvet curtains. The sunny yellow walls, warm mahogany accents and vividly colored French posters make this the perfect setting for your occasion. Set up however you wish, the room is large enough for a party of 60, yet intimate enough for a smaller group of 10 or 20. Have a much larger group? We are happy to close the entire restaurant. Left Bank Menlo Park Ratings and Reviews
The food was good but the service was very below par. We had five people and waiter brought the wrong dinner to one of my guests. The waiter did not even offer something to eat while waiting for the correct dinner to be delivered. Our guest had to sit there while the other guests ate their food. He should have offered at least a salad or a bowl of soup while waiting. It was very embarrassing to me and my guests.
It's still a nice place for lunch, though the menu seems very similar to when they opened many years ago. FYI: pretty challenging for vegetarians. The service was friendly and upbeat, though our waiter must have been pretty busy as we didn't see him much and needed to ask a few times for the bill.
The French Onion soup is amazing. While it may not be the longest food menu you have ever seen the selection of authentic french cuisine is wonderful.
If it is a full house it can get a little loud but so will most other restaurants.
The servers are all very knowledgeable of what is on the menu and provide a great experience.
Accommodated our need for a booth and were very attentive with the service. Quick and delicious hamburgers/fries. Only complaint is that they consistently make martini's with lots of tiny ice pieces - ugh! Waters down the drink which is not a generous pour to begin with.
For a very busy Thanksgiving Day dinner service Left Bank presented a nice dinner with more food than we could eat. However, I was surprised at the clientele, so many came in so casually dressed that they looked they had been camping. For a holiday dinner I would have expected a respectful dinner guests.
Three of us including my elderly mother had Thanksgiving dinner at the Left Bank. I was extremely impressed by the food quality and the very fun special menu of Beaujolais wines. The place is a bit noisy for us oldies, but it wasn't a hindrance. I'd definitely eat a special holiday meal here again.
Dining for Thanksgiving, everything was as expected: white and dark meat turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, brussel sprouts, yams, dressing, and a good choice of wine. The dressing was pretty weak, but everything else was very good. Very crowded but the service was good if a bit slow. We weren't in a hurry, so that was fine. Good place in Menlo Park.
My family & I were here for Thanksgiving for the Prix Fix dinner. The food and service was outstanding!!! The bar was a little slow, however, considering it was a busy holiday afternoon, we understood.
As an alternative to cooking, we will absolutely be considering Left Bank for all future family holiday gatherings & celebrations.
Our reservation was for a 6:00 pm table; at 5:00 pm, the restaurant called and said they were not serving dinner that night as they had some sort of infrastructure problem. They offered to transfer our reservation to sister-restaurant LB Steakhouse which I accepted. When we arrived at LB Steak House, they had never heard of us; they never got any information from Left Bank that our reservation was being transferred. After a 30 minute wait, LB Steakhouse was finally able to accommodate us. As a general rule, I enjoy Left Bank a great deal, and while I realize that it was not their fault that they were unable to serve dinner that night, I am very disappointed that the promise of a reservation at LB Steakhouse didn't materialize. It will be a long while before I take my business back to Left Bank.
We always enjoy our weekly dinner at LEFT BANK. I ordered the whole shrimp to start but the heads were removed and the shrimp quite small. I don't believe this was a good value. Everything else was delicious and we look forward to our next dinner there.
As I have stated in the past, on a busy night there is not enough waitstaff.
This place has been on a steady downhill path for a long time. Now every time I go it smells like bleach. The bathroom was filthy, at 5:45 pm. I told management and they sent someone in to clean, but they did an inadequate job of restocking. Tbe good was mediocre at best. I wish Menlo Park would get some good restaurants.
We dine at Left Bank about once or twice a year and this was (i hope) an off night. The staff appeared to be overwhelmed by a large party that had yet to even arrive. Very slow to take out cocktail order and after some waiting our food order was taken. The appetizers arrived before our drinks. Food arrived somewhat haphazard and the portions seemed smaller than usual. At one point, the hostess arrived to ask if we needed anything when our waiter disappeared for a time.
Because I am a staunch fan of Bistro Vida next door (in Menlo Park), I don't often go to Left Bank. I was vey pleasantly surprised. Service was cheerful and efficient. Food was well-prepared and portions were vey generous. I had the appetizer mussels, which were as good as I have had anywhere. I certainly recommend it.
About six months ago, I had the onion soup. It was the best I ever ate--and I'm in my 80s!
About three months ago, I had the onion soup, it was disappointing--too much bread in the bowl, too little onion soup. Thursday I tried it one more time. The cheese layer was about two inches thick--and rubbery...the bread on the bottom was thick as mud...there may have been an inch of onion soup in the middle. I'm afraid I may not be back...there's no excuse for coasting on a dish and lowering the standard. I'm very disappointed. It's a shame.
I have been a frequent diner at Left Bank in Menlo Park. After a night of turbulent service, I mentioned this to the manager and he invited me and my wife back in to make it up to us. The responsiveness to the issue and the follow-through restored my faith in the restaurant. The butter lettuce salad is excellent and simple and we always do well with the trout, chicken or steak frites. Thanks to LB for a great response to input from a frequent guest.
I wanted to try the risotto with mushrooms and canard confit and it was a deception.
The rice was watery with no flavor, the confit dry and scarce. I am french and know how to cook pretty well.
My husband enjoyed the pork chop.
I will go back to Left Bank Santana Row where I am usually please with my entrees.
Charming restaurant in downtown Menlo Park. The restaurant is large, but has outside seating and several rooms giving a much more intimate feeling. The menu had several options that were very appealing. I chose the salmon which was very well prepared and the vegetable sides were delicious. A companion had the lamb shank special of the night and that was especially tasty (I tried a bit!) The wine list is extensive. This would be a very nice place for a special dinner or just for an evening out. I definitely would return. The only downside was the noise in the room, making conversation a bit difficult.
very disappointing dinner. the restaurant was hardly half full at 5:30 when we arrived. we were seated promptly at a quiet table and then waited some time for service. the meal took much too long, given the time and number of customers. there were large blocks of time when we never saw our server and we had a meeting, which we were late for. we didn't get out of the restaurant till 7pm, 90 minutes for a 'quick" dinner. the food was also disappointing so all in all, we won't be back.
