Our Salles De Amis is a beautiful private mezzanine. You can choose to overlook the main dining room from the balcony, or enclose the room completely with our lush velvet curtains. The sunny yellow walls, warm mahogany accents and vividly colored French posters make this the perfect setting for your occasion. Set up however you wish, the room is large enough for a party of 60, yet intimate enough for a smaller group of 10 or 20. Have a much larger group? We are happy to close the entire restaurant. We had five people. I enjoy the Left Bank experience...but this time it was very ordinary. Choice was average...salads available were run-of-the-mill and so were the food choices. The Menlo Park branch is not nearly as good as the Larkspur one. It is okay...but I would say that the value equation has slipped.

Not happy with lunch bring served before appetizers. Had to ask for additional drinks to order and more bread to be brought to the table. The restaurant was not busy. No reason for our table to be attended to better.

Food was disgusting. Don’t order any seafood items they taste a week old. Waiter wiped his nose on his sleeve at least 50 times.

Went on Valentine's Day with my wife. Our server (whose name escapes me) was fantastic and really added to the evening. He was attentive and very knowledgeable about the wine.

I go to Left Bank Menlo Park approximately once a quarter. I still like the restaurant--the food is very good and the ambiance of the restaurant is very nice. The service this time was disappointing. There was a very small luncheon crowd, yet, we could not get a server to even come to the table for almost 10 minutes. When he came, he did not, as most servers would do, ask if we wanted something to drink. Bread came when I asked for it. The meal, however, was served timely, and the server was more attentive after the initial delay. My guest and I both had salads and pommes frites. The salads were very good.

To be honest, based on the reviews I read and having reviewed the menu prior to making the reservation, I was disappointed. The service was okay, and for most of the meal our server was never around. We were greeted by our server soon after seating, but then she disappeared for an extended period of time before coming back for our orders. Little things like pouring wine, checking to see how things were from time to time once the food came just didn't happen. Also, our mains meals came out before we were half way done our appetizers. They took them back, and brought them later, but you wonder whether they made them again or just kept them warm. The real disappointment was the food itself. The Gambas were fine for flavor, but they were whole shrimp. It would have been nice to have the tail split at least to make for easier access to the meat since not everyone is into easting shells. Escargot were okay, but like the other things, not much in the way of flavor. The duck was nicely cooked and the meat tender, but the overall dish was bland. Same with the rigatoni. About the only thing that came out as I would have expected was the Beef Bourguignon. It was pretty good. So overall, I expected much more given that the menu looked very interesting.

Wow! What happened to Left Bank. A decade ago this was a thriving hot spot with real food depicting the beautiful simplicity of French countryside cuisine.
We experienced a ten to fifteen minute wait until we were approached by waitstaff and provided menus. It was Super Bowl Sunday, so I think they were busy watching the game.

The food was less than mediocre. The sauce with the escargot was heavy on the oil served with old chewy stale slices of baguette. The truffle fries- clearly were Sysco food distributors finest flash frozen. Truffles on the truffles Frits ? Ha- Never saw them, or tasted truffle oil.

My eating partner ordered seafood soup and the waiter told us that there were no mussels - he opted to have it anyway when the dish arrived it was full of muscles unfortunately the saffron sauce was ice cold and he didn’t even get any bread to mop it up with or a bowl for the shells.

I ordered a burger to play it safe- it arrived- clearly it was a frozen premade burger and my bun was so hard and stale I opted not to eat it —probably just save myself some empty calories anyway.

We decided to suck it up and move on to dessert because what sweet can’t make bad meal good again. Wrong—
The Cannelles were still FROZEN on the inside and the cream Brûlée was so off-portioned, the waiter brought us two cause he felt bad- and said two makes one normal portion. The custard was so thick you could cut it with a knife. What happened to this place. We paid the bill that was over 100$ ( now I wish we disputed) we ended up going next door, and eating a real French meal at the bar!

I’ll NEVER go to Left Bank again! WOW! #FakingFrench

The waiter sympathized with us by the end of the evening. Clearing he was trying to get through it just like we were.

My complaint is not so much about the service (food was fine--we just went for a glass of wine and a couple appetizers to celebrate a birthday on a warm February evening) as about our fellow diners; this automatically puts the management on the hot seat because of our experience... Shortly after we were seated outside by one of three tables up by the window, a woman was seated at one of the other two tables; she had a small dog with her. The dog started barking a bit, then started sniffing my friend's purse and her shoes. The partner of the woman showed up, and the dog barked it's happiness. These two ordered dinner, and the woman started feeding the dog from her plate; if the dog didn't get another bite soon enough, it started yapping loudly for more food...About thirty seconds was soon enough.

I planned to order dessert and coffee, it was my friend's birthday after all, but we were so stressed out by all the barking and the woman's idiotic behavior regarding her dog, that we left and had dessert at a shop by the theater in downtown Redwood City.

What's the solution? I am not sure, but maybe management had to be brave and ask obnoxious pet owners to leave or some other option. My critique is coming from a dad who's daughter is working towards becoming a small animal vet, for what that's worth.

Our service was slow, but that was okay because we weren't in a hurry...that is, until we had reached our limit with the clueless dog lady.

I have eaten here a number of times at lunch and just for a bite. It’s been a while since I’ve been there for dinner and it was a disappointment. Of the four of us one really didn’t eat any of her meal. The others were fine but nothing special. The selection of non alcoholic drinks was limited.

The chicken usually quite good was dry as a bone - I should have sent it back but held out hope for the thigh, and disappointed. The service and cocktails great, as were the appetizers.

This location has been a hit or miss for me the last few times. The first time, the food didn't taste very fresh; bread cubes in the fondue tasted a bit stale, crab cakes were very fishy, etc. This time around, the fondue was much better; the bread was fresh and toasted, the cheese itself was flavorful, and the sole, trout, and steak were delicious.

The only downsides of this experience was the denial of happy hour menu even though Open Table clearly offered me this "special" option. They did not honor Open Table's special offer. The entree took about 45 minutes to arrive, which was a bit longer than expected. Our dinner ran two hours and we didn't have time for dessert. Though this was a Saturday and they were quite busy, so I guess that should be expected.

Our waiter, Carlos, was excellent, and the chef was very accommodating when we requested salmon versus ahi for our salade nicoise. Also, I requested a booth when I made my reservation, and as usual, the reception team honored my request. Our lunch was predictably yummy!

The food was exceptional and authentic French cuisine. The service was also wonderful; I got a splash of sauce on my top and the waiter noticed and brought me club soda and a napkin to clean the stain. The waiter was also very useful in helping us to choose a wine. The food was delicious and we felt like we were back in Paris. All around a great meal and a special evening. We will definitely be coming back!

Birthday.
Service was OK... Took a long time to get service after we initially Sat down. Also, made a reservation and was going to be seated at a booth facing a wait station... Very poor location in my opinion... Requested a different table and was given a table near the window which was much better.
My daughter and I split a salad and Entree- the kitchen was nice to split the dishes for us.

This was our annual New Year’s Day lunch with friends. This year, we came to Left Bank.

We had a friendly, but seemingly distracted, waiter. Water came to our table as an after thought ... after we ordered and received our food and other drinks. Twice, our gluten-free dishes came to our table with bread on the plate, and had to be taken back. We didn’t have silverware for each of us to begin eating our food. We had to flag down a bus person and ask for forks because our waiter didn’t come back around for a while. Our waiter forgot to ask us about dessert or coffee before handing us our check. He also forgot to bring the to-go box we asked for so that we could take our leftovers home. On a good note though, he did have the kitchen slice & toast our gf bread we brought with us and arranged it in a bread basket for us. He had a good personality when he talked to us, but fell short on doing the job.

The food, on the other hand, was excellent. Kudos to the chef!

The ambiance was very pleasant.
