Our Salles De Amis is a beautiful private mezzanine. You can choose to overlook the main dining room from the balcony, or enclose the room completely with our lush velvet curtains. The sunny yellow walls, warm mahogany accents and vividly colored French posters make this the perfect setting for your occasion. Set up however you wish, the room is large enough for a party of 60, yet intimate enough for a smaller group of 10 or 20. Have a much larger group? We are happy to close the entire restaurant. Left Bank Menlo Park Ratings and Reviews
I have eaten here a number of times at lunch and just for a bite. It’s been a while since I’ve been there for dinner and it was a disappointment. Of the four of us one really didn’t eat any of her meal. The others were fine but nothing special. The selection of non alcoholic drinks was limited.
This location has been a hit or miss for me the last few times. The first time, the food didn't taste very fresh; bread cubes in the fondue tasted a bit stale, crab cakes were very fishy, etc. This time around, the fondue was much better; the bread was fresh and toasted, the cheese itself was flavorful, and the sole, trout, and steak were delicious.
The only downsides of this experience was the denial of happy hour menu even though Open Table clearly offered me this "special" option. They did not honor Open Table's special offer. The entree took about 45 minutes to arrive, which was a bit longer than expected. Our dinner ran two hours and we didn't have time for dessert. Though this was a Saturday and they were quite busy, so I guess that should be expected.
Our waiter, Carlos, was excellent, and the chef was very accommodating when we requested salmon versus ahi for our salade nicoise. Also, I requested a booth when I made my reservation, and as usual, the reception team honored my request. Our lunch was predictably yummy!
The food was exceptional and authentic French cuisine. The service was also wonderful; I got a splash of sauce on my top and the waiter noticed and brought me club soda and a napkin to clean the stain. The waiter was also very useful in helping us to choose a wine. The food was delicious and we felt like we were back in Paris. All around a great meal and a special evening. We will definitely be coming back!
Service was OK... Took a long time to get service after we initially Sat down. Also, made a reservation and was going to be seated at a booth facing a wait station... Very poor location in my opinion... Requested a different table and was given a table near the window which was much better.
My daughter and I split a salad and Entree- the kitchen was nice to split the dishes for us.
This was our annual New Year’s Day lunch with friends. This year, we came to Left Bank.
We had a friendly, but seemingly distracted, waiter. Water came to our table as an after thought ... after we ordered and received our food and other drinks. Twice, our gluten-free dishes came to our table with bread on the plate, and had to be taken back. We didn’t have silverware for each of us to begin eating our food. We had to flag down a bus person and ask for forks because our waiter didn’t come back around for a while. Our waiter forgot to ask us about dessert or coffee before handing us our check. He also forgot to bring the to-go box we asked for so that we could take our leftovers home. On a good note though, he did have the kitchen slice & toast our gf bread we brought with us and arranged it in a bread basket for us. He had a good personality when he talked to us, but fell short on doing the job.
The food, on the other hand, was excellent. Kudos to the chef!
The ambiance was very pleasant.
We have been to this restaurant several times and always enjoyed our experience, but yesterday the service was awful. The hostess was not welcoming, the waiter tried to hurry us to order, then when we had received our food, did not bring us the butter and water we had asked for, tried to take a companions plate before she was finished, then disappeared for over 20 minutes until we had to flag down a bus boy to clear our table. We asked for the check, got it, paid it and were leaving when he came back and said we hadn't paid enough. We said we paid what was on the check and he responded he had given us the wrong check and we needed to pay this one. No apology until we questioned why we had the wrong check. It was an unpleasant ending to a poorly served meal. The food was fine and the bus boys were competent (we actually asked if management had changed because we had never had this kind of experience at this restaurant before).
I've always enjoyed my meals at Left Bank but this last dinner we had was not up to their usual standard. The mussels were plumb and plentiful but the broth had absolutely no taste whatsoever. The profiteroles was stale and the ice cream was more like ice milk - again not much flavor. Friends meals of rigatoni and steak were better but nothing outstanding.
Food here has always been hit or miss. Consistency is a problem. Onion soup(s) were each a big glob of cheese, little soup, and it was very sweet. Beef tartar was excellent, hamburger was over cooked
Waiter could not remove the cork from a wine bottle. Said it was a new corkscrew!? Opening bottles is a recurring problem.
Waiter had to be reminded twice to bring a glass of wine one guest ordered.
Lovely French dishes and very friendly attentive service. The food here is consistently wholesome, flavorful, and satisfying. It's a fun atmosphere, although perhaps not the place to go if you're looking for a cozy or intimate dinner. We weren't, so that was no problem for us!
The food was good but the service was very below par. We had five people and waiter brought the wrong dinner to one of my guests. The waiter did not even offer something to eat while waiting for the correct dinner to be delivered. Our guest had to sit there while the other guests ate their food. He should have offered at least a salad or a bowl of soup while waiting. It was very embarrassing to me and my guests.
It's still a nice place for lunch, though the menu seems very similar to when they opened many years ago. FYI: pretty challenging for vegetarians. The service was friendly and upbeat, though our waiter must have been pretty busy as we didn't see him much and needed to ask a few times for the bill.
The French Onion soup is amazing. While it may not be the longest food menu you have ever seen the selection of authentic french cuisine is wonderful.
If it is a full house it can get a little loud but so will most other restaurants.
The servers are all very knowledgeable of what is on the menu and provide a great experience.
Accommodated our need for a booth and were very attentive with the service. Quick and delicious hamburgers/fries. Only complaint is that they consistently make martini's with lots of tiny ice pieces - ugh! Waters down the drink which is not a generous pour to begin with.
For a very busy Thanksgiving Day dinner service Left Bank presented a nice dinner with more food than we could eat. However, I was surprised at the clientele, so many came in so casually dressed that they looked they had been camping. For a holiday dinner I would have expected a respectful dinner guests.
Three of us including my elderly mother had Thanksgiving dinner at the Left Bank. I was extremely impressed by the food quality and the very fun special menu of Beaujolais wines. The place is a bit noisy for us oldies, but it wasn't a hindrance. I'd definitely eat a special holiday meal here again.
Dining for Thanksgiving, everything was as expected: white and dark meat turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, brussel sprouts, yams, dressing, and a good choice of wine. The dressing was pretty weak, but everything else was very good. Very crowded but the service was good if a bit slow. We weren't in a hurry, so that was fine. Good place in Menlo Park.
My family & I were here for Thanksgiving for the Prix Fix dinner. The food and service was outstanding!!! The bar was a little slow, however, considering it was a busy holiday afternoon, we understood.
As an alternative to cooking, we will absolutely be considering Left Bank for all future family holiday gatherings & celebrations.
