FRENCH ONION SOUP
half dozen raw market selection
Really appreciated the outdoor live music, the band was very nice and welcoming. However the service and food was a bit lacking. We were sat directly in the sun and twice had to ask to be moved. I understand it was busy for Mother’s Day but still we waited ages to get our drinks/food. I could hear most tables complain about something especially the lack of umbrellas for all outdoor tables. The food was just okay. The egg in my meal was unseasoned and my mother’s salmon hash was ironically missing potato. Also $6 for bread…
The restaurant next door is much nicer with much more value and better prices. This restaurant felt like a cash grab.
We've been to the Left Bank many times and enjoy it because the ambiance does, despite its corporate ownership, remind us of Paris in many ways. We've gone many times to visit our son in Paris for more than 10 years, and we come to the Left Bank for a little authentic French ambiance when we start missing it. The food isn't always superb - the meat in their steak frites, for instance, is too chewy - but this visit we had the Lamb Navarin which was just outstanding. Plentiful chunks of perfectly cooked, tender lamb with lots of carrots, peas, pearl onions and sliced fingerling potatoes were sitting in just the right amount of delicious sauce. That with the prelude of pates and some crusty bread were the perfect meal. We'll be back next time we're missing Paris!
This is a very nice restaurant - I think they were low on help as service was slow and not very friendly. The musical group playing was WAY too loud - could not converse with my dinner partner. Very nice ambiance outside except to loud music. Food was fine, but nothing special
We enjoyed the spacious area available for outdoor seating. Service was great, food was very good. It was our first venture back to a restaurant and it was a success.
Outdoor noise because the tables are set up in the street where cars pass by. Food is ok but on expensive side. We went for happy hour, but the Menlo Park location doesn’t offer happy hour specials.
French onion soup was good. Salad Lyonnaise wasn't - lardons were mostly soft cooked fat and frisee lettuce tasted old. Sat inside, it wasn't crowded, but service was bad. Had to ask several times for many things.
I thoroughly enjoy this restaurant, the food is always excellent as is the service.
I come here all the time. I loved the oysters that they had in season, however, this time my eggs were a bit bland. This is still one of my favorite restaurants and I’ll be back again soon.
Both of us had our final immunications three weeks (20 days actually) ago; this was our first time eating *inside* a restaurant. Service was prompt and efficient; food was great.
My first disappointment in the many years as patrons. The muscles were too gamy and should not have been served.
Loved the music, the fabulous Onion Soup! A fun evening with friends!
The music made our dinner even better. We literally made our next reservation while we were finishing our meal.
French Onion Soup was good. The bread basket, that they charge $6 for now, is not worth it, almost inedible masses of dough, like pizza dough. Yuck. Miss their happy hour.
Wonderful location, sitting outside. Excellent food (DEF order the trout almandine), excellent service....
The lunch and dinner menu are the same except for 3 more entrees at dinner. There are few lunch selections, e.g., only sandwiches are burgers. We miss their "happy hours". We hope that everything will improve as we move into the next tier!
We chose to be seated outside and the atmosphere was great. We felt very safe and really enjoyed dinner.
Our server was scattered and seemed annoyed at us. We asked for water which we never got. We needed more bread but he disappeared for at least 15 minutes. No one saw him.
Having spent 120$ and have a crummy service experience does not make me want to come back. I understand this is a tough time but if your wages depend on the tip a guest leaves- then step up and give good service.
I really appreciate that the restaurant has opened inside dining. I was there
twice over the last weekend and felt totally comfortable with inside dining.
The Left Bank has been a family favorite for many years. This was our first visit to indoor dining since the Covid shut down. Everything was delicious, as always. The tables are arranged so that there is ample seating between tables. We are eager to return for family nights out and for lunch with friends.
Great time listening to the music and enjoying our wine and yummy meal!
Your staff is very friendly, helpful, and provides top service!
our server was so kind and generous since we were the last patrons eating lunch. The food especially my prawns provencal. since we can't travel to France this was the best way to celebrate my friend's birthday and a lot less expensive than the airfare to Paris.
West Bank has the BEST hamburgers anywhere. My son and I go there whenever we can and are always welcomed, treated like special customers and well fed. I highly recommend it!
Hate to write a less-than-glowing review after over a year of Covid restrictions, but our meal just didn't live up to this resto's reputation. We dined outside on the Santa Cruz Ave. side and had a terrific table. Our server seemed overwhelmed and harried (understaffed?). Food came out promptly, almost too soon, before the bread (now an extra cost item) was delivered to the table.
The food was just OK. My spouse had the burger, which historically has been her favorite dish here. She was disappointed in the flavor. I had a lamb shank that was tasty but not memorable, and the menu's description didn't match the served meal.
The resto had a good outdoor crowd, which seemed a positive step towards the "after times", and for that we're thankful. We'll return.
Service is usually quite good but not tonight.
The food is bland and mediocre and the service poor. We were rushed through our meal although there was no crowd. Items ordered never appeared. You can do much better for the price, literally next door.
Left Bank in MP meets and exceeds all our dining out requirements. Kudos to them!
A piece of bread should have been offered with the escargots
Very slow service
The food, wine and the ambiance as always was amazing. This is the first time the service wasn’t up to the usual standards.
We have dined here since it's opening more than 20 years ago and loved every time before. Tonight we were massively disappointed. The former level of food and service quality was sorely lacking. The wait staff was rushed and sloppy. Bread now costs an extra $6. The waiter finally opened our wine but never poured any. (Yes we do know how to pour our own wine and we did.) The water glasses were not refilled until we were having desert. The salads were fine and nicely presented but the entrees were incredibly bland and lacking flavor. (Where did they get the recipe for that terrible polenta?) The best part of the dinner was the wine, which we brought.
This had been our go-to place for a very nice meal and many great New Year's Eve celebrations, but no more. It's not cheap but the food and service sure was! Hope that they get their act together so that we can go back!
Obviously unprepared for the demand on reopening. But taking too many bookings for the space - or filling it with walk ins - is not ok. Poorly trained person at check in didn’t help. Slow service - had to ask numerous times for bread. Drinks took forever and minuscule when they arrived. Food was ok.
Very nice setting and very good service. 😀
Nice place for dinner and music on Frida nights. Food is tasty and fresh.
Still our go to French Bistro in California!
Mussels were ok, i would not order them again. A few tasted weird . It’s usually my favorite
The tar tar was really good.
The perfect place to meet up with friends and dine outside!
Not only is the food good, the ambience “ takes you away” and you forget that you are close to home.
Wait staff is excellent. We were a long time at lunch - 2+ hours - and we were never rushed. Our waiter just kept refreshing our water glasses. Thank you, Left Bank, for providing us with a wonderful experience!
This location is always wonderful, even after Covid.
Good was great. Music was awesome. Nicolas Perez was amazing on the piano. Service was lacking. Server disappeared for long periods of time. Too bad, I would have had more cocktails.
Had a good meal and conversation with friends. Everything was quick but didn’t feel rushed.
It is our neighborhood go to restaurant! We have enjoyed all our meals there.
