FRENCH ONION SOUP
Always a great place to have dinner. Last night was no exception
The menu was unspectacular, so much so I asked if it was a different menu that dinner ( I have only had dinner there in the past). The choices were diminished, the plastic menus left me wondering ( I know COVID), and the choices almost non-existent.
Inside dining room was empty, as was the mezzanine, and was the bar area. Perhaps 4-5 outdoor tables with 2 guests. I could have gone next door to LaVida for a more robust meal at 1/2 the price. I had my mom with me and wanted to have a long overdue experience. That did not happen
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves
Love Left Bank..been a customer for many years. It is always wonderful. The service is always clean and happy. the food is top quality and dependable.
Very average food. Cost cutting shows. No comparison to Marin.
Lovely Father’s Day meal dining outdoors. Live music was icing on the cake. We’ll be back!
Very good steak-fries, mussels were excellent and the salad was great, salmon was dry & over cooked.
Wonderful meal, mellow music, friendly staff and diners! Great evening!
first time sitting outside and listened to their band, superb experience!!! love it!
Ambience is very charming inside, with classic French Bistro decor and high ceilings. Outside dining was very attractive, with live music, lots of shady trees, and a lively pedestrian setting.
It was very nice as it is always!!
The Left Bank Restaurant in Menlo Park is one of my favorite eating places. The ambiance was great with lots of space between tables. Service was good and the food delicious as usual.
Food excellent as usual
Live entertainment: this is a curse!!! Too loud!! We had booked an outside table but asked to be moved inside so we could hear each other and not have to shout!!
Service is usually excellent but it was very slow and inaccurate. The wait staff were running ragged. Apparently some of the wait staff did not turn up so the rest had to pick up the slack.
However, the problem was exacerbated with errors so the wait staff had to do things 2-3 times before getting it right. This slowed them down as well. E.g. we ordered 2 salads but they came back with 1. We ordered 2 entrees and they delivered one of the entrees before the other.
We asked them to take back the single entree and bring the entrees back together. However, a few minutes later, the single entree appeared again. We asked that the entrees are served at the same time. This was repeated one more time. The last time the first entree had gone cold. Now they had to take it back and reheat it.
I train my staff to spend an extra 5 seconds when they are rushed so they get it right the first time and do not have to do rework. This may be useful in this situation.
Sat outside and though it got a bit windy we enjoyed our oysters (very fresh and tasty) trout almandine, steak frites, and even ordered an extra round of fries since they were so good. Waiter was pleasant and just the right amount of attentive. Also enjoyed good wines by the glass. Would recommend. I had been to the one in San Jose and this one in Menlo Park was just as good. Walking distance from the hotel where my companions were staying.
Left Bank has a nice French menu and good food. Their outside seating is really nice. Great place for lunch.
One of our local favorites! The food and the staff are top notch. We often dine there for lunch; it is so pleasant.
It was nice. We had to move inside because of the loud music down the street. But the rest was lovely.
We had a lovely evening enjoying the singing of Derry and Laurent and loving our food and wine!
It took 20 mins for someone to just notice our table after we flagged a server. The drinks took 10 mins to get us and missing the mixer I had asked for. The fried chicken felt it was boiled and then fried, and the chicken smelled. My friend asked for medium rare steak which came well done.
To sum it up: very poor service and poor quality.
Very disappointed from the start and the disappointments kept coming. Skipped dessert for fear of yet another disappointment.
Beautiful day dining outdoors. Service great.
Food very average . Both had steak frites.
Affigato dessert wonderful.
We had a lot of fun... delish dinner, great music, fun group of people enjoying the ambience too!
Staff problems have “plagued" many restaurants since the pandemic. That said, it’s a good idea not to expect too much in terms of service as most waiters are probably doing the job of two or three. The Left Bank waiters are well intentioned but super busy. Have a glass of wine, order the bacon and blue cheese burger with fries, relax and enjoy the almost-back-to- normal vibe.
Good food, nice setting and music!! Mussels a great choice as well as the onion soup.
THE prefect spot to enjoy a post covid release.
The burgers are delicious, the fries equally good, a glass of wine and bingo-
you’ve forgotten all about those last 14 or so months.
Relaxing atmosphere. Covid19 precautions taken with tables set up for social distancing and employees wearing face masks. Excellent waiter. The ravioli with mushroom sauce was delicious and the profiteroles were divine.
Salad was good but very skimpy on tuna. Expensive for what I got
Left Bank has always been our go to restaurant in Menlo Park and have supported it through this trying time. A couple of things still need work, they really need to bring back “happy hour” menu. It’s hard to go for drinks and have such a limited finger food menu. Also when ordering fondue, always good, ordering extra bread is difficult and pricey for what is served.
They were out of many items on the menu, including soda! Not having Coke/Pepsi seems odd. The waiter said they had a busy weekend and that’s why items were unavailable. The ambiance was great, nice outdoor seating. My brother and I felt safe. The food was just okay. I ordered the French onion soup, took one taste and sent it back, it was way too sweet which was unexpected. The waiter didn’t ask why I was sending it back or if I wanted something else instead. He didn’t even remove it from the bill. My brother and I are foodies and love discovering new restaurants in our area. This one was a let down. Specifically the service was not good. The waiter never checked on us, never refilled our drinks or anything. We still tipped of course but it wasn’t a good experience. My almond fish was good, it saved the experience. Probably will not be returning.
Great Service, Onion soup and Mussels were fantastic!
The hamburger was excellent The french fries were OK but the coffee was as usual too cold I cannot understand why they cannot do better on that
Service was horrible this time
I loved my Salad Nicoise. My guests were underwhelmed with there hamburger. I will return but my friends who used to love Left Bank will not!
Really appreciated the outdoor live music, the band was very nice and welcoming. However the service and food was a bit lacking. We were sat directly in the sun and twice had to ask to be moved. I understand it was busy for Mother’s Day but still we waited ages to get our drinks/food. I could hear most tables complain about something especially the lack of umbrellas for all outdoor tables. The food was just okay. The egg in my meal was unseasoned and my mother’s salmon hash was ironically missing potato. Also $6 for bread…
The restaurant next door is much nicer with much more value and better prices. This restaurant felt like a cash grab.
We've been to the Left Bank many times and enjoy it because the ambiance does, despite its corporate ownership, remind us of Paris in many ways. We've gone many times to visit our son in Paris for more than 10 years, and we come to the Left Bank for a little authentic French ambiance when we start missing it. The food isn't always superb - the meat in their steak frites, for instance, is too chewy - but this visit we had the Lamb Navarin which was just outstanding. Plentiful chunks of perfectly cooked, tender lamb with lots of carrots, peas, pearl onions and sliced fingerling potatoes were sitting in just the right amount of delicious sauce. That with the prelude of pates and some crusty bread were the perfect meal. We'll be back next time we're missing Paris!
This is a very nice restaurant - I think they were low on help as service was slow and not very friendly. The musical group playing was WAY too loud - could not converse with my dinner partner. Very nice ambiance outside except to loud music. Food was fine, but nothing special
We enjoyed the spacious area available for outdoor seating. Service was great, food was very good. It was our first venture back to a restaurant and it was a success.
Outdoor noise because the tables are set up in the street where cars pass by. Food is ok but on expensive side. We went for happy hour, but the Menlo Park location doesn’t offer happy hour specials.
Always wonderful, that's why we keep coming back...and back...and back!
Great outdoor eating!
