Excellent salad nicoise with abundant fresh seared tuna. Not a bargain however. Fresh complementary bread & butter.
My guest had the trout almondine and loved it. The butternut squash was great, however the steak salad left something to be desired. The steak was full of gristle and the salad was blah. There were also little gnats flying around throughout our meal. I will try it again, but they only get one more chance.
Cold fries and a heap of arugula with no dressing - very disappointing
Unfortunately it seems like this place keeps getting worse each time we give it another try. We met friends for dinner on Sat. Looking forward to a nice meal and a bit of French influence. Out of the four of us 2 of us were very disappointed. There seemed to have been an abuse of the salt shaker in the kitchen making my chicken dinner and our friends salmon simply inedible. I was compensated and the staff was very nice and tried to make it up to us by bringing us sides of veggies ( that had been left off of all of our plates- I guess the kitchen simply forgot they were part of the meal), but even the veggies were too saturated with salt to be any good. Desert was good. And the manager was very nice as was the waitress. If they could only get the cooking down, it would be a great option but for now, I’ll forget about it until I hear things have improved.
Another lovely visit to Left Bank, Menlo Park. Excellent service. Reminds us of why we have France on our wish list.....
I use the Left Bank's Salade Niçoise as the standard by which all others are judged, and so far, no one comes close.
The food is so so. Expensive and underwhelming. I ordered the frise salad which had an egg and a couple of croutons. The nicoise salad skips the egg.
Friend in from nyc wanted to take her to our favorite restaurant
As usual all was perfect
I ordered the duck medium rare and it was well done. Quite unusual for LB. Prawns provencale was excellent. Also ordered the salmon and burger. Both were fine.
We had a trainee with our server. He was excellent !
Some times Left Bank s very good and other times it lacks the degree of focus to be a 4 star or higher award. The dinner started correctly with attentive details but after giving our orders there was a big time gap of more than 30 minutes before the main course arrived. On a couple of occasions the waitperson came by to say it was on its way but more time elapsed. I suspect there too few staff. Anyway, we will try again in another month or so.
I have been to this restaurant so many times before, although I am a visitor in US.
It is a typical Franc-American restaurant and I have always been satisfied. My last
visit was no exception, maybe it was even better.
Always good food and ambiance. A local favorite.
The many times I have eaten here the food is always delicious; service can improve but the food is good. We were party of five and disappointingly seated directly across from the kitchen entrance/exit so it was noisy. We sometimes also felt like the wait staff was not attentive enough; we would have to look for him to order wine, ask for bread, etc. Needs more customer svc here. The starters were very good; cheese board and charcauterie. Lunch entrees were an assortment of mussels, burger, salmon, petrale sole, onion soup gratinee and fresh oysters. Two carafes of French white wine, sauvignon blanc, for three of us was a very good pairing for the meal. No dessert, cappuccino and latter, we were good to go and look forward to a return visit! Bon Appetit!
The service was attentive and friendly, and the food was very good. We haven’t been to this location lately but we’ll certainly be back again soon!
It was fine. While I did indicate on the reservation that it was a special occasion- it was never brought up or acknowledged. Ok.
The only other comment is when there is a shared starter- the server should bring salad plates.
Otherwise the food was very good. Thank you
Duck confit was very dry.
If I was alone, I would have complained and sent the food back.
The food at the Larkspur location is much better.
French bistro that offers a large selection of French specialities. Enjoyed the mussels in wine sauce.
Service was efficient without intrusion. Nice ambiance with outdoor dining too.
We come here for our annual board dinner. The food and service is always consistently good. Love the aperitifs and French bistro cuisine.
This is our fourth or fifth visit to Left Bank, Menlo Park. Anytime we're in the area, this is our go-to restaurant because it "wins" in all of the important (to us) categories: (1) great food, prepared with unique style, but not in such a way that the presentation overshadows the preparation; (2) service that is at once attentive, yet never intrusive; (3) a really comfortable, not overcrowded room that is interesting to be in and to look at. We love it there.
We let them seat us in the bar area near the door, which may have been a big mistake. It took forever till anyone even offered us water, much less took an order. This was a Thursday evening. Fortunately the food is still good.
Service was excellent, friendly servers I felt very confortable
The food and service were outstanding! Wonderful place for a special occasion.
The food was delicious, as always. I requested outside seating, which was honored, but was not given an option of which table. We were seated in a semi-sunny (one person) table right on the street. I would have preferred to be next to the building or on the side next to the sidewalk instead of on the street. It was a lovely day and nice to be outside. We split 2 entrees, Salad with Ahi (perfectly cooked), and a Croque Monsieur. They served them already split and waited until we finished the salad to bring the sandwich. Lovely.
this is the first time we have eaten in the bar area and had, unexpectedly, the happy hour menu. We really enjoyed it
The outside dining area is lovely in the summer for happy hour and an early dinner. Fondue is so good, pasta with summer vegetables was delicious, everything was good. Service is friendly, attentive and efficient.
Had a great lunch with a friend here the other day and we sat outside on a beautiful day! It was our second visit because it's a great location, half the distance because our locations! The waiter was charming and professional, made recommendations (which we took) and came back frequently to make sure we didn't need anything else. We both ordered the lunch special so we got to select 2 items and also got soft drinks with that. We started with a half-carafe of red wine, recommended by the waiter and a nice way to get a little more wine that one glass but not 2 full glasses! We still had to discuss a few things so we ordered one dessert (yummy btw) and it was terrific. This will definitely be one of our go-to restaurants for meetings.
Food and service was excellent! Would definitely come back!
Worst French food I ever tasted. Over-salty and still lacking flavor.
The food was great but it was stiflingly hot nd despite many requests it never cooled off. Great food but not enjoyable to sweat through dinner.
Weekday dinner. Excellent food and service
It’s been a few years since I’ve been to the Left Bank in Menlo Park. Food and service used to be top-notch. A quiet Tuesday night and we had to regularly request for our servers attention and even then she forgot to order appetizers, a meal and refill coffee. The food overall was meh. But, the mussels were delicious.
Get your LB act back together in MP!
We have eaten here many times and normally we enjoy it, but this time was disappointing. We had a 6 pm reservation, arrived at 5:58 pm and checked in. We were seated at a table in the middle of the restaurant. There were three empty booths and we asked if we could be seated in a booth instead. The host told us those were already reserved. (Guess how we felt when one booth remained empty for the entire duration of our meal?)
Our friends arrived at 6:02 pm and were told by the same host that they were the first to arrive for our reservation, even though he had just seated us. They proceeded to wait in the bar, until we finally texted them to find out where they were.
Our waiter was equally lackadaisical. We had to ask to have our water glasses refilled, to place additional wine orders and for the correct cutlery.
Definitely an "off " night for a restaurant that we usually like.
50th anniversary of surviving a machete attack.
French style restaurant and had some French tourists eating in the restaurant.
Went there for Brunch, they do not have many brunch options. Got the omelet because it was one of few items Gluten Free. It wasn't that tasty but my biggest complaint is they do not have alternative milk for their coffee drinks.
Very pleasant experience, bar tender nice a friendly, wait staff polite and explained the daily specials. Over all we had a very good evening. Will be back.
Service was very slow. Food was good as usual. I had received an email form Left Bank saying that I was entitled to a free appetizer. I printed the email and presented it along with my printed reservarion form to the person who seated us. When I showed it to the waiter he said it wasn't valid beause I hadn't make my reservation with that coupon. The reservation would have been with open table and I in fact made my reservation with open table but not by clicking on the coupon. So that was indeed a disappointment. Additionally I put on my open table reservation form that I was celebrating my wife's birthday. They never acknowledged that with a dessert. This was the second time that happened. I brought a friend there for lunch to celebrate her 93rd birthday in June and Left Bank never acknowledged that either. I didn't remind them each time becazuse I felt uncomfortable doing so. The restaurant personnel should read the information from Open Table. The reason I gave LB such a poor review is because of these issues. The food and the ambience is quite satisfactory.
Great service! Food was good. I put reason for dinner during reservation was to celebrate a birthday but nothing was done.
Service, food, and setting were all excellent
It was good
We have been to Left Bank in Santana Row several times and enjoyed excellent food at very reasonable prices in an elegant setting. However we had not been there in probably a year and To be fair, the prices and choices there may have changed. When we realized we would be in the Palo Alto/Menlo Park area at dinner time this past weekend, we chose Left Bank, Menlo Park for dinner. We were surprised that the choices seemed more Limited than we remembered and the prices were quite high. The food was very good, but not special enough to warrant the high prices. My husband liked his duck dish. We both thought the mixed seafood with a tomato broth was fine but too expensive.
