Executive Chef Jaco Smith consistently pushes the boundaries on traditional Latin fare by incorporating wood-fired flavors into his cuisine while boasting a view of the Willamette River that few Portland restaurants can offer. Smith comes from a large family of cattle, sheep and grain farmers. He started cooking at a young age in his mother’s kitchen. His favorite childhood memories include the tastes of dulce de leche, flan and grilled breads, reminiscent of South American flavors and commonly found on South African kitchen tables.
This is a super cozy spot right downtown. The waitress was great and very knowledgeable and the food was delicious. We will definitely be back!
Some of the best tapas I've ever eaten... I'm still thinking of the bone marrow!
Great, great food! And an old fashion bar?!?! Yes please!!!!!!!
Delicious food! Highly recommend for Portland dinning month!
My daughter and I did the Portland dining month menu. The dessert was average, but everrything else was delicious. There portions were perfect for me, but if you require larger portions, order some addional tapas from their menu. The service is excellent and the drinks are very good.
We arrived a half hour early for our reservation but they were able to seat us right away which was fabulous. The restaurant has a very modern feel with an open kitchen and a welcoming vibe. Although the tables were fairly close to one another the noise level was very reasonable. Our table all had the 3 for $33 menu which included 6 courses. The food was excellent. There wasn’t one dish that we all didn’t love. Cocktails were unique and delicious if not a bit speedy and the wine (an Argentine Syrah) was the perfect complement to the meal.
I guess the only unfortunate issue was that we ordered a bottle of wine and our waitress forgot and we did have to remind her. In the end it was not a big deal and she was a very good waitress.
This was our first first visit to LeChon so rhe 3 for $33 was the way to go. We will definitley be back!!
So good. Nice attractive atmosphere. Fun menu. Really good cocktails. Highly recommended.
We went there for Dinning month package. The food was good. But the overall service was below standard. At First, we were not introduced to the "Dining month" menu properly. At online we saw both vegetarian and non-veg option available. But the actual on-site menu had only non-veg options. For example, we don't eat pork. The first starter was pork belly based food, and our server forgot to mention it to us. For other dishes, they were really in a rush to serve them and did not gave any (or proper) description of the food. But I must say that the foods were delicious, especially the salad and the shrimp with rice.
Fantastic (and interesting!) food choices!
Fun atmosphere and great service. We’ve never been disappointed.
Service was excellent. They had 6 dishes for Portland Dining Month so we didn't need to choose! The drinks were also excellent. We will definitely go back.
Amazing. Best meal I have had in a long time.
Was more of a Chinese/Asian influence than I expected. I probably wouldn’t try that place out again if it wasn’t for the ambiance...unimpressed by the food for sure
Fabulous all the way around. Highly recommend. We ordered lots of small plates - loved the octopus, ceviche, beef ribs. Attentive service; great wine and cocktails.
I love LeChon! They ALWAYS win Dining Month by all the nice extra courses.
They are brilliant with red meat; creative with beddings and garnishes, and intra-meal variety.
I came here when I was in Portland 5 years ago and have been dreaming of going back, and it did not disappoint the second time. Me and my boyfriend enjoyed every dish we ordered, the waiter was friendly and helpful, and we never felt the least bit rushed even though we realized when we arrived that we made a reservation half an hour before close. The restaurant was beautiful, the food and drinks were amazing, we would definitely recommend Le Chon to everyone looking for a great meal.
I had eaten there with friends a few weeks ago and was blown away. This time we tried Portland Dining Month and while it was 1/2 the price, it was 1/2 the quality, portion and service. The shrimp dish was overwhelmed by the teriyaki, and the meat cuts were of lesser quality.
I’ll try it again, with hopes of a repeat of our first visit. :) it really was exceptional.
Like every time we have been, the food and service were just great. This is the first time we sat in the back patio area and frankly I prefer the front of the establishment but it was still just fine. They had just started with a new drink menu and her previous visits they were delicious. Overall, I highly recommend this establishment.
Great drinks. The malhumorada is a little Spicy and sooo good
Delicious. Main bartender was very friendly and helpful. Host was helpful as well when I made a reservation at a high top and she was able to move us from the low table by the door to the bar.
Never been before, visited for Portland Dining Month. Was super impressed.
Went for Portland Dining Month and it was a phenomenal experience! Delicious food, great value at $33 for a 6 course meal and wonderful ambience - some of these portion sizes I posted are for two orders!
We tried the Portland dining month! Everything was amazing, food and service. Enjoyed our experience, will go again and recommend.
Everything about this place was perfect! We were seated immediately, tended to when needed, and all of the staff was so friendly! They even heard I was a vegetarian and made sure to give me my own menu for Portland dining month, as well as paired drinks with the food they recommended. Definitely will be returning to try more of the food on the menu I couldn’t fit in my stomach!
Everything about LeChon is great. Excellent value for the high quality. Great ambiance, unique, yet palatable cuisine. It's like a (not so hidden) gem. Go here if you want to impress your friends/client by its charm.
We love coming to Lechon. The small plates concept, the variety of the menu, the good choice of cocktails, beer and wine and the great service is makes it an enjoyable experience. Our server, Amy, was so friendly and knowledgeable that it added to our visit.
Service was terrible. Waitress completely forgot to ask if we needed a second drink. By the time she remember it was past 9pm and bar closed @ 9pm she apologized and explained how she couldn’t serve drinks after 9. Not quite sure what the big deal was since the drink was a beer. The worst part was that she was extremely busy providing exceptional service to the table next to us it was obvious it was a friend, family the main reason why she forgot us.
We went to LeChon for Portland Dining Month and got the 6 course menu. What a delight! The pork belly slider! The tuna tiradito! The flat iron steak! I cannot pick a favorite. Every bite is an explosion of tastes. The staff is frindly and attentive. We had a wonderful dining experience.
I loved my meal, the ambiance, the service and the location. I went for Portland dining month and was not disappointed.
Food is always outstanding at LeChon. We liked the Portland Dining menu....it got us to try some different items so we were glad you could not make substitutions! And everything we tried was wonderful. Service was great too.
Tasty food, good with kids, nice for dinner with family and friends
Always a tasty adventure, the bone marrow is the most delicious!
Grilled octopus was life changing, steak was cooked to perfection, overall excellent experience.
Great cocktail selection. The dishes are delivered when they are ready, rather than all at once. The fish and jellyfish tanks are amazing!!!
Great time celebrating upcoming wedding
Service was great. Food was delicious. We had our four year old son with us and they were very accommodating to him and even had fun crayons for him to color with.
Phenomenal tapas food and drinks.
The food was overall quite good as expected. The astoria crab was outstanding. The disappointment was with our server not seeming as engaged. He was quite kind but rarely checked in. Also, when ordering our cocktails, I had said I wanted the first cocktail but then asked about WTCIH. I said, "oh yes, I want that" so he brought me both at the same time. I didn't realize he didn't understand that I wasn't asking for two at once and I just think he could have asked for clarification since most people don't order two drinks at once. Again, nice guy. Just doesn't seem as suited for this profession. But we will return, no matter!
I dined with 3 friends and we thought all of the dishes were terrific. The Brussel sprouts are a real stand out as well as the farmers green salad. We also had flank steak (very tasty), the grilled octopus, the smoke steelhead and avocado toast (tasty), and many other dishes. I am definitely going back!
Excellent food and service . Could very easily become our favorite restaurant in PDX 👍🏿
Excellent food and service! It was a great experience
