Executive Chef Jaco Smith consistently pushes the boundaries on traditional Latin fare by incorporating wood-fired flavors into his cuisine while boasting a view of the Willamette River that few Portland restaurants can offer. Smith comes from a large family of cattle, sheep and grain farmers. He started cooking at a young age in his mother’s kitchen. His favorite childhood memories include the tastes of dulce de leche, flan and grilled breads, reminiscent of South American flavors and commonly found on South African kitchen tables.

Wonderful meal of shared plates. Delicious!
Good, flavorful food well prepared and presented. Realistic portion sizes. Good tapas options.
Needless to say Lechon is one of my Fav restaurant in PNW
The food was excellent and our server was great. They do need to improve the reception process. Maybe someone did not come in, but the receptionist was trying to check people in, seat people and clean off tables. She was working hard, but they needed one more body. Other than that it was excellent service.
The food and atmosphere were amazing! I will definitely come back over and over again!
We went with a couple of friends and decided to share tapas. We each selected one or two dishes including the crispy brussel sprouts - tasty but expensive for a small plate, pork belly - very good, brisket empanadas - small and more pastry than brisket. Overall a mixture of good and some average food. The music was a little loud in our booth but they were happy to turn it down and did so quickly. The service was a tad on the sell side "the tapas portions are small so you'll probably want two each" and we ended up with an extra drink as he did not note a change in order but brought us both.
Our server was extremely rude. It was clear that our stay was a nuisance to him.
Coming from someone who literally has the palate of a toddler, this place was definitely an adventure that I decided my husband and I should try for Valentine's day. I had seen a lot of reviews about the smoked bone marrow (I have never eaten anything CLOSE to bone marrow) and I just thought "screw it, let's order the weirdest stuff!". We ordered the bone marrow tapas, the pork belly tapas, and the spare ribs. The pork belly tapas were fine but nothing that interesting, it was just 3 little squares of pork belly with nothing else to eat it with. It was good but I definitely wouldn't have it as my first choice again. The smoked bone marrow was AMAZING. I couldn't believe I actually liked it! It had chimichurri and the most delicious gaucho bread. It was SO good. The only down side is that there is very little marrow on each bone so there wasn't a ton of it to eat. But altogether A+ dish. The spare ribs had some kind of berry glaze which was delicious. The ribs came out and they were super cold in the middle, we realized after we started eating them. They had no problem cooking it a little more and brought us over a couple little empanadas to snack on as a really nice gesture. That's A+ service. My husband can eat a LOT for a regular sized human so I was kind of expecting that we weren't going to be full after eating here because those fancy restaurants usually have really small portions. To share, we got spare ribs (which comes with 4 if I remember correctly) and then the two tapas and we literally were STUFFED, could not even finish the last rib. I never thought I would like the food, I just wanted to be adventurous going to dinner somewhere with great ambiance but I would definitely come again.
James, thank you for excellent service and making our Valentine's Day special
Sorry that you had to served us but I hoped you enjoyed your Valentine's day yourself or with your significant other.
Will definitely coming back!
Our first visit. Had eaten and enjoyed Toro Bravo several times in the past but LeChon was even better. We'll be back.
Service has consistently been excellent; dining experience has been lively with great ambiance; and the food is delicious, creative, and beautifully balanced.
We were celebrating my husband’s birthday on Sunday night and we were quickly brought to 4-top booth near the bar, no waiting. The entire wait staff was excellent and we were quickly served our drinks, which consisted of very good Sangria and craft cocktails. We easily carried on conversation with fun music in the background, as we waited for our food which was absolutely delicious! We started with a fabulous salad with greens, apples and pistachios. My husband and I split one and there was more than enough. Followed by the brisket empanadas, corn and cheese fritters and the gaucho bread...all amazing made more fab with their accompanying sauces. We had the Kalbi Beef Ribs and the Peruvian Roasted Chicken...both were on the salty side but still very good and savory. We finished with the light and delicious Piña Colada (Coconut Pineapple) Volcano Cake which was comped for his birthday. Our friends had much of the same dishes and thoroughly enjoyed them as much as we did. We will ALL definitely be back. Great ambiance too and dimly lit, great for a romantic dinner or with friends. The jelly fish and exotic fish aquarium is very cool. This is now my new favorite restaurant!
Enjoy LeChon every time we have dined there. Food is outstanding and one is unlikely to find anything quite like it in Portland. We ate mainly from the tapas menu and these dishes are fantastic. We also ordered the Asada plate that included hard to find sweet breads. We enjoyed the ambience of the restaurant from a booth which made conversation possible. There was lovely live flamenco-latin style music at the beginning of the evening. Would have been nicer if the recorded music that followed was consistent to maintain the mood.
Delicious food all over! I was pleasantly surprised by the overall value and the food quality. Worth a visit if you're in the area.
Bacon around the duck wasn't cooked.
Chips with ceviche were bottom of the bag bits.
Octopus had a bad texture to it.
Salad was drowning in dressing.
The waitress was so sweet bringing us a champagne toast and dessert for my birthday. The food was delicious.
We were celebrating our anniversary and when we arrived they sat us at a table that was less than ideal. When we asked if we could move they accommodated us within minutes and moved us to a nice booth. Our meal was amazing and the service was perfect. We will be back!
This has become my favorite restaurant in Portland. I could eat everything on the menu (and almost have), but my three must-have dishes every time now are: the killer shrimp ceviche (we literally drink the marinade when we're done), pork anticucho (tender and exploding with flavor), and this visit's new discovery, the sautéed mushrooms with brioche toast and fried egg - wow! Can't wait to go back and have all three again. Really love the wine list, too - great finds at reasonable prices. Love this place!
Fantastic menu and service, food was very nice and unique flavors, our best restaurant during this trip
Unique dishes with fantastic flavor. Vibrant and fun atmosphere. with friendly and outgoing staff. Fun way to spend an evennig.
Our dining experience was fantastic. This was our first trip to the restaurant, and our server did a great job of walking us through the menu, offering recommendations, and making sure that we could wrap up our dining experience in time to make it to the theater. Thank you!
I ordered a deconstructed hamburger (on Keto), and requested that the burger come with no pink. It arrived and it was rare. I'm sure they would have re-fired it, but I wish it had come right the first time.
LeChon is an exploratory heaven for the foodie. Delicious tapas and food to share. Grab your friends and settle in for some creative cocktails and delicious cuisine!
We had a fabulous meal and amazing service from our server Katherine! We were celebrating or anniversary and they made it extra special with a yummy dessert and champagne. We can’t wait to go back!
Outstanding place. The food was very good. The Atmosphere and ambiance is very nice as well. The wait staff was phenomenal.
This place was very busy on a Friday night at 6. Had the reservation for 2, but were not able to turn the table in time to seat us. We sat at the bar waited for our booth at first, but we ended up staying at the bar looking at the fish and Jellyfish and talking to the bartenders. Food was excellent, for the mix up on the table they ended up comping our mocktails that was an unexpected surprise. We had a great time, even if the table never came. We would definitely comeback. I split the marrow, apple salad, and kalbi short ribs with my Korean wife and we all thought they were delicious. We could have stayed and talked for hours but we were on our way in under an hour.
Annual tradition to celebrate my birthday with my girlfriends at LeChon and it never disappoints!
Our server jack was fantastic, made awesome suggestions and was friendly and efficient.. actually your whole staff was... food & drink were excellent! Will refer and be back!!!!
By the way, we went over to your ‘bar’ around the corner just to check it out have a quick drink and to be honest with you, they were so rude especially the young kid who was like maybe the bartenders asst.? He got one of the drinks wrong and when we told him he copped an attitude... such a turn off, you guys need to train the bartenders over there but actually it was more the young kid behind the bar that had the attitude. Definitely no comparison to your restaurant nor the staff you have there. Will definitely return to your restaurant but definitely will not refer or go back to the bar around the corner...
Kathryn did a great job serving us some of the best food I have had in some time. I will be back.
First time. Telling friends and will be back
They made our birthday celebration so special, thank you for everything!
Very delicious libations and food. The tapas were great. We had octopus, bone marrow, mushrooms, and the ceviche. All were great. Main courses did not dissapoint, from the scallops to the rib eye and the special pork.
Every plate was more delicious than the last. Excellent service, vibrant atmosphere, perfect for taking guests for a casual business dinner.
Food was delicious as always but the service was really poor tonight. Waited 45 minutes for our first two dishes - ceviche and empanadas. Then waited another 30 minutes for patatas. Every five minutes after that we got our last two dishes. Every other time I’ve been in food came out without huge gaps of times. Was shocked the server didn’t come over and apologize for the wait. Hope next time service will be more on par with other times I’ve visited.
Had a great girl’s night out
Weekend get away! Great experience. Food was amazing!
The food was delicious. I could easily have eaten just orders of the gaucho bread with chimchirri sauce, but the mussels were perfectly cooked, the crab toast was delicious and crabby, and the fried chicken was perfectly hot ( meaning spicy, but not overpowering) and delicious when wrapped in the fresh basil leaves. Had the chocolate dessert and even though I have had more then my share of chocolate desserts before this was absolutely in my top 5. The margarita was delicious too, don't skip the smoked salt. Our server was fantastic. Attentive without being obnoxious and easy to chat with.
Indeed in my opinion a very good all around restaurant. Can't wait to take my wife.
Just all-around great spot for Lunch or Dinner. I was entertaining an out-of -town client who's not really into the whole tapas thing and the server/kitchen were very accommodating in bringing most of the tapas selections first and then serving our entrees together. You never have to question the food at LeChon; it's always tasty and entertaining....the Grilled Octopus is not to be missed!
