Executive Chef Jaco Smith consistently pushes the boundaries on traditional Latin fare by incorporating wood-fired flavors into his cuisine while boasting a view of the Willamette River that few Portland restaurants can offer. Executive Chef Jaco Smith comes from a large family of cattle, sheep and grain farmers. He started cooking at a young age in his mother’s kitchen. His favorite childhood memories include the tastes of dulce de leche, flan and grilled breads, reminiscent of South American flavors and commonly found on South African kitchen tables.

Come here if you have a large party!
I was trying to find a place to host a large party for my birthday meal. It was super easy to reserve a table of 8 online. They even added a high chair as I requested on the reservation.
We ordered a huge amount of food and it was a great wide variety of food to satisfy toddlers to teens to adults. And even given the large order there was a nice constant flow of yummy foods that came out.
The staff was great and attentive. They even hand wrote nice birthday wishes for me as well as ended the meal with a fruit tart that my daughter just loved.
Would definitely recommend this place for the good food and atmosphere.
Thank you again Le Chon for the great birthday meal!
Great food. Waitress charged the wrong amount though. Charged $60 instead of $40. So double check before signing and walking away :).
Our waiter was too attentive and our food was delivered all at once at a tapas restaurant which is a no-no. The food was very good, specialty drinks were outstanding, and I would recommend this restaurant.
Super amazing food and our sever was outstanding. We love Le Chon. One of our favorite restaurants in PDX.
Outstanding food - terrific tapas sharing experience!
It was a very enjoyable experience. I love sharing tapas! I think I’ll skip the bone marrow next time- since only half of the bones had yummy fat to delight in.
We were a group of 8 for lunch. The service was super awesome and the food was delectable.
Great food and great service
The hostess should not be there. We almost walked out because of her bad attitude. She was rude to my husband and then to me. We were late and we apologized. It seemed that the hostess was punishing us due to being late. We are first time visitors and needed to figure our way to get there and the time escaped us, the hostess called and we said we were sorry and that we were on our way, the seat she gave us literally had to be the worst seat in the house. By the kitchen and by a thruway to the other seating area, we asked if we could possibly be seated in a less traffic area and she rubbed in our face Saying well you were late. So I said it seems like you are punishing us for being late by giving us the worst table. There were so many seats available since it was 6:30pm. And she insisted none of the seats were available. We said we would sit outside and there were at least 3 tables Available outside. Then she said you can pick any table with an umbrella. We were happy to sit outside. She really did make our experience the worst we had on our first time in Portland on our last night. If she only gave us a different table and didn’t give us attitude. No hospitality at all.
Our server on the other hand was wonderful. She was new working in the restaurant and she was great. Gave us suggestions on dinner options and made nice conversation.
This is my second time visiting when in Portland and really enjoyed the food. Once recommendation the bone and marrow dish had more bone than marrow
Fantastic food & service. Music could be heard & enjoyed but we could talk at a normal volume which can be rare at restaurants these days. Highly recommend!
It was great! They really personalized it for the birthday we were celebrating.
Amazing evening of food and service. It was however really warm!!!
We have eaten at LaChon a few times and always a great time. The food is delish, service is top-notch and the atmosphere is enjoyable. Looking forward to next time!! :)))
During the 25 years I've been working in downtown Portland I've seen good and decent restaurants come and go. I've eaten at LeChon during lunlch hour many times since it opened. In fact, we've scheduled our annual board meeting dinner at LeChon for the past several years. Believe me when I say it is a great place to enjoy morning, noon, or evening. If you haven't been there you are truly missing out on a great place to dine.
We arrived for our reservation at 4:30 and we were seated immediately. The service was perfect and efficient. We ordered 7 tapas, all of which were delicious. This is our second visit here and we will be back! We love the space- the tanks are a great addition.
I have been planning to go for quite some time and finally it happened. It was great food and environment, will definitely visit again!
Excellent service and food! Our 2nd time in 2 weeks. Would have been 2 weeks in a row, but we postponed our visit due to the downtown demonstrations last weekend. It was well with the wait!
A was a absolutely fantastic evening. The oysters were amazing.
Loved every part of our dinner. The food was excellent, the drinks amazing. Great service. Waiter recommended some great dishes, including bone marrow, which was luxurious. Will definitely return for a special occasion.
Enjoyed the smoked trout on toast a lot, the other two dishes (short ribs and pork belly) were not that good.
The server was polite and attentive to us. She made food recommendations and service was perfect
Lechon is one of my favorite places to eat in Portland. It's not overly expensive, but has a nice professional feel, which makes it perfect for company dinners, and nice get togethers. Food is outstanding and the drinks are wonderful.
Great location and service, 4 of the five dishes we ordered were fabulous, but the octopus was fatty and over-marinated in lemon. That was the only disappointment.
My date and I came to this restaurant on a Friday night as the first stop on our Portland trip for the weekend. It definitely set the bar high for our stay. The atmosphere was lively and the ambiance and decor was warm and tasteful. The two aquariums that had tropical fish and jellyfish created a colorful and entertaining distraction. The bone marrow was the best I have ever had; smoky and melt in your mouth flavor and texture while the grilled octopus was cooked just right. Then came the asado - lamb chop and flank steak - which was delicious. Our server was friendly and gave us 2 complimentary glasses of champagne upon learning that this was our first time in Portland and to the restaurant. The head chef, Jaco Smith, came to our table to greet us and was just as friendly and welcoming. The other restaurants we went to for the remainder of our trip did not compare to the food, service and overall environment we were treated to at LeChon. A place definitely worth coming back to Portland just to dine at!
Every time we have taken our friends to Le Chon, it has been an amazing experience. The food is scrumptious and the service is top notch. Different fusion of taste and flavors cannot be beaten. No matter what you order is always above your expectations.
Not only the food is excellent but the desserts are also decadent.
We love everything about this place from food to ambiance and from service to convenience of location. This place has our heart and soul💕
Food is amazing, fresh and tasty, love the seasoning used on dishes, worked well together and not overpowering.
Service not consistent, we had to get server attention every time.
Coffee was lukewarm, we had to ask them to reheat.
LOVE the food!
Great food and interesting menu. Our table was closest to the hostess and the traffic pattern meant that our chairs on the north side of the table were banged into constantly. It was disruptive to our enjoyment.
Lovely atmosphere, though a bit too warm on a hot day. Food was quick and delicious. Drinks were awesome! Will be adding LeChon to our regular rotation!
Fun place - we did a team business dinner but we're all friends as well. A little too loud for the typical business dinner. Food and drinks were great! We all enjoyed it!
The tapas recommended by our waiter were excellent. The service was impeccable. The atmosphere was divine. The fish tanks are tremendous. Thank you
I seriously love this place. The food, the drinks and the people just makes it one of my very fav places to dine.
If you have thought about trying it but just never made to leap, just do it. The price is always worth the experience.
They took 9:30 dinner time, but waiter request us last order 10pm. Why taking 9:30 booking. Food was great!!!
This is not the best fish and chips I've ever had, but it was solid and quite tasty. I loved the Jalapeño tarter sauce. The side salad was excellent. The service is great and the room interesting.
At LEAST as great as its reputation! The food and drinks were innovative, exceptionally well prepared, and very tasty. Service was attentive, engaging but discreet. What really stood out as unusual was the remarkable variety of eating "modes" -- high two-tops, high tables, bar seating, booths, quiet and not so quiet tables. Whatever your mood and whatever the character of your group, Lechon seems to have it covered. Will be back there as soon as I can find an excuse.
Creative menu, unique cocktails, excellent food and knowledgeable service! My only issue was that the restaurant has an open kitchen area that created a smoky atmosphere. My sensitive eyes were burning and watering - my poor dinner guest thought I was crying.
Always a great meal out! Best quality and flavor in town.
Two visits confirm this waterfront restaurant as one of Portland's stars! Once I got my attention away from their unbelievable salt water fish tank (worth a separate trip), and focused on the menu, I was very impressed by the range of food offerings, especially the Tapas. One Tapa is enough to food one person. And all of the ones I got to sample were delicious. I particularly like the octopus, the bone marrow, and the spicey chicken. I would have thought that they would have had more craft beer selections on draft, but the IPAs I had were great. A visitor to Portland should go out of their way to dine at LeChon!
I call this a business meal but we’re all friends too, so this casual atmosphere worked perfect. I would HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone who is a foodie like me. They also have fantastic cocktails & the service was outstanding. Literally zero faults or complaints - bravo to all involved!
