Lebanese Taverna - Westover Ratings and Reviews
We have gone to this restaurant for years--since the mid 1980's and it is always delicious food. We recommend it for families, friends, special occasions, lunch or dinner. It is the "mother" of all of the chain Lebanese Taverna's and is so much better than all of the rest.
Lebanese Taverna is a good restaurant and has a few locations, in which we were dozens of times. This restaurant is THE MAIN restaurant where Lebanese Taverna was born around 30 years ago. It was great always and better when owners were there or managers who knew what to do. This time the waiter was a disastrous. He brought one martini and in ten minutes a glass of wine. He could not take two plates away... Lack of training was present and lack of simple human sense what to do.
The kitchen and service were off. There were only 2 other dining parties when we arrived, but it still took half an hour to get our appetizers. They didn’t have our favorite entree. One of the main dishes was cold.
Waiters were inattentive. When we made the reservation through OpenTable we indicated that we were celebrating a birthday. The staff never acknowledged this request. A disappointing experience.
Lebanese Taverna Westover is cozy and intimate, so the volume may be quite loud when busy, but during slower lunch/afternoon hours, it's very nice. The service is friendly, the hot bread and spices/olive oil are absolutely delicious (generous portions, too), and I have never had anything less than delightful from the menu. Lebanese Taverna has the best baba ghanouj around, and there is cute outdoor seating available.
Lebanese Taverna is a neighborhood favorite that never disappoints. We had the humus sampler, substituting a babaganouche for one of the four humus choices; and one other small dish. This proved more than adequate as a light dinner. Look forward to e return visit.
Lebanese Taverna is a small, pleasant neighborhood restaurant. The food is well prepared. For example, the large portion of lamb in the Mouzat I had on my last visit was very tender, and the broth had a great flavor with just enough spice. Service is very friendly, when I asked about Arak I was immediately brought a sample to taste. It is also unrushed but efficient. This restaurant is a great place for a casual dinner.
great Lebanese food and generous amounts of it. we shared a chefs platter with excellent mezze and then enjoyed a rich, tasty dinner. no room left for dessert! its popular on a Friday night and a bit noisy so we are glad we booked with OpenTable. Parking is an issue but we found a place on Washington Blvd and walked off a few calories uphill after dinner. It was our first visit to Lebanese Taverna but wont be our last!
Usually I love Lebanese Taverna. This time they were out of several dishes, and we were not told so until well after we ordered. We had to ask for bread, the food arrived at different times so a couple of guests had no food while others waited with plates getting cold. The waiter forgot a couple of items we ordered, but only charged us for one of those. I was very disappointed, because we had visitors with us from out of town and wanted to make a good impression. I think this particular location has gone downhill recently.
Excellent food. The service was not good. First part was great, the waiter came and took our order very promptly. Our food came out promptly as well. Waiter was slow in coming back to refill ice tea, get dessert order, bring check. From the time we finished meal, ordered dessert and coffee, got check and left was just shy of an hour. It became a big joke between my husband and me as to how long we would be sitting there.
The food was awesome. Unfortunately, it came out in a piece-meal fashion, through no fault of the excellent waiter. Also, it was incredibly hot and uncomfortable until the a/c finally got lowered after numerous requests to the manager and other staffers. I hadn't been to this particular location in years, but needed a reservation for a large party who were staying nearby; the noisy restaurant made it tough to converse amongst our large party.
Unfortunately we had a below average experience. We go here regularly, but they were having an off night on a Friday at 9pm. It started off by not being greeted and then a waiter reluctantly led us in and said to sit anywhere. They were out of many items and they informed us about the chicken (seriously? out of chicken? ), but we were not told about the Spanakopita until mine did not arrive with the rest of the dinners. There was also a small fruit fly flying around our table most of our meal. Won't rush back, sadly.
Our meal was great a short usual, but our OpenTable reservation did not show up in their system even though I had a confirmation in my phone. Fortunately they could fit us in and fortunately we were down two people, but this was my first concern with OpenTable reservations.
This was the first time I was in their restaurant, I always used the carry out on Lee Highway. My guest and I loved the food and service (she was so helpful). I'm a pescitarian (vegetarian plus fish and seafood) and the zucchini and eggplant shaved stuffed with rice, yougurt and tomato sauce was the best. I was disappointed that I didn't have any leftovers as I ate every bite! The fried sea bass (barazino) was lightly fried with vegetables. Again, no leftovers! Our waitress gave us tastes of different chardonnays abc we found the perfect one. I can't wait to go back. I live in Arlington and my guest was here from Pennsylvania. He definitely wants to have dinner here again next time he's in town. I LOVE this restaurant and the cuisine!
The first Lebanese restaurant in the DMV remains excellent. I had heard that things had suffered but I'm happy to report that revisiting the old Lebanese Taverna brought back fond memories as well as the delicious flavors. The dishes are as good as they were 20 years ago. I couldn't have been happier.
Food was great, our waitress was very nice and polite. My reason for not giving this place a five star rating is because our reservation was at 4pm and the place was practically empty when we arrived. We ordered appetizers but our food was almost two hours late!! Other people who got there way after we did were served before us. I complained to our waitress as we had 7 pm theater tickets but she could only say that the kitchen was 'late' -- we were
there way ahead of all the other customers. I didn't enjoy eating g my food in a rush :( I realize this was NOT our waitress' fault, but the Chef's!
In regards to service and food, it was all fantastic. However, you could tell that the wait staff were just so mad at each other and even had altercations in front of us. This was Valentine's Day. I think the manager should talk with the employees about professionalism because in regards to service, they were great but in regards to professionalism amongst each other was definitely lacking.
In the 1970s before the turmoil in Lebanon, we experienced a wide variety of excellent Lebanese cuisine; and here in Arlington, we are frequent visitors to Lebanese Taverna (Westover) because they continue producing those authentic flavors and traditional dishes. A few years ago they put their menu on a "diet," with fewer choices of meze, yet what is still there remains excellent, and they do still come up with new items to try, eg. the cauliflower dish, the eggplant salad (believe it's called "shakhsout"), or the pumpkin kibbeh with spinach stuffing. We confess - we can usually make a great meal here from the small plates, and seldom get around to a "main course," but have enjoyed excellent lamb dishes of various styles.
This branch (the original in what is now a mini-chain, still family-owned) is small and cozy; the staff is friendly, an interesting selection of wines including some Lebanese ones.
