Lebanese Taverna - Washington DC Ratings and Reviews
The Lebanese Taverna was excellent. If you are looking for mezze and Mediterranean type food, this is definitely going to be at the top of your list. Went out with people for work for a quarterly lunch (and also had a birthday in the group.) and we will be going back again. We had people that were not familiar with this type of food and they couldn't believe all of the different tastes and textures. Be sure to order the Chef's Platter as a mezze starter for the table!
Beautiful place inside and they have outdoor dining also. They have traditional Lebanese food and it was delicious! And the
Flat bread was hot and very tasty. We went for a family dinner and ordered the mezza platters. There were 5 of us so we ordered 4 kabob dishes and shared family style.
A longtime neighborhood favorite and my standby in Woodley Park. I've been here with friends many times and everyone always enjoys it. Well-prepared Middle Eastern food, good service, nice ambiance (beautiful renovation), and good energy but quiet enough for conversation.
One of my favorite spots. This time service was particularly bad because of an extra large group nearby. We had to flag the server for practically everything we wanted. We had dessert and tea and our table was still not cleared. We had to move our dirty dishes to the next table to make room. Otherwise, food is great. Prices are too high, especially for basic plates like hommus and Baba Ghanoug ($9). Still, it is high quality.
I have been going to Lebanese Taverna for 15 years. A couple of years ago they updated the interior and it is beautiful. The food is consistently tasty and fresh and they have changed the menu in good ways as well. This week's dinner did not disappoint. It's a restaurant you can count on!
Restaurant looked very clean and mosern. What was disappointing was that immediately once we ordered our appetizer and entrees, hummos and pita came out immediately followed by our entrees. This was more like fast food which was not what we wanted. Food was mediocre at best. There are better choices
Food was very good, but service was VERY VERY slow. I wondered if they were down a few servers - meal took 2 1/2 hours. I'd still recommend it, but given how much business they get from local conventions, I'd have thought they'd move people better. We felt ignored at times.
We dined here 3 times a few weeks ago when we stayed across the street. The food is amazing!!!!! That's why we kept going back. The first 2 visits service was basic, nothing special but we were well taken care of. Our last visit, the night before we left town, we had both horrible and amazing service. Our initial waiter seemed like he'd rather be anywhere else but there. I asked him if I could sub something out on one of the platters and he said "No, we won't do that". It made no sense bc it was a simple switch but when we asked him why he just said "No". My husband asked if he would at least go ask the kitchen and he said "No". I understand that some restaurants will not sub items out but he was very short and just wanted us to finish. I ordered something else, we got our food, he never came back to check in us again. This is where it turned to amazing. The waiter, Victor, in the section next to us came over to fill out waters once and I could tell he kept watching as we were obviously frustrated. He came over to clear our table for us as we had been waiting a long time. He apologized for the service we had received, offered us dessert, made us laugh and saved our last night in town. Victor stepped in to turn our dining experience around, he didn't have to do that and definitely shouldn't have needed to buy he did. So, thank you Victor!!! Despite our initial horrible service I would still recommend Lebanese Taverna, just hope you don't get our original waiter. Enjoy some hummus and falafel!!!!!! Oh and ask for Victor!!!!
Everything was as good as can be expected, except for one thing: our waitress.
1. Asked our drink order within 120 seconds of our sitting down, having not yet provided any menus
2. Our drinks came promptly, but then put food took a notably long time to arrive once we ordered. So, unsurprisingly, both our appetizers and entrees came at once, which as far as I'm concerned defeats the purpose of appetizers.
3. Finally, one appetizer had been totally forgotten.
I'll definitely go again and I of course recommend it! It's a great place, this was a one-off experience, and I'm sure I'll come back. Just maybe not if I'm exceptionally hungry.
