Lebanese Taverna - Bethesda Ratings and Reviews
My favorite menu item here is the chef's platter, a sampling of nine dishes and three pitas. It offers a variety of very good flavors and is surprisingly filling. I usually have it with a glass of wine. While the selection of wines by the glass is small, it is well chosen and reasonably priced. A double espresso finishes of a very nice meal. Alexander, a recent addition to the staff, is very attentive and pleasant. For those who like natural light, the tables by the large windows are great.
I enjoyed the meal but the server seemed to be in a hurry. She made my friend and I feel that she wanted us to leave. While she was prompt with the order, she kept on coming back to take plates off the table before we were ready to finish our meal. The restaurant wasn't busy and the
other patrons didn't seem to be pressured to leave as we were.
The chef's platter, which consists of nine small vegetarian dishes, offers not only a variety of very good flavors, but is a good value at $14. The list of wines by the glass is brief, but is well chosen and reasonably priced. The Allan Scott sauvignon blanc is a standout. For those who like an espresso after a meal, the restaurant serves a robust one. While I like brown as a color, there can be too much of it: brown floors, brown walls, brown furniture. I prefer a table by the large windows so I can see the variety of colors and movement of Arlington Road. The service is attentive, but not intrusive.
We had family visiting from out of town and we wanted to treat them to a nice night out in Bethesda. We were seated immediately however it took a while for a waiter to come greet us, bring us menus, water, etc. (mind you the restaurant was very empty). We asked someone to please have a waiter come to our table and when he finally came over he asked "what do you want?" as if we were bothering him! I was so appalled by his demeanor that I wanted to immediately leave but for the sake of my hungry family members I kept my cool. We did let him know he was being rude and he slightly changed his attitude and we had another waiter attend to us. All in all, the food was very delicious and came out rather quickly. I personally would not want to dine here again because of such poor service. However, the food is very good so if you have the patience to deal with staff that seems bothered to serve you then this is the place for you but I'll take my money elsewhere.
Most of my party of 6 liked the food and thought it was a good dinner choice. All felt the service was terrible, un-attentive, disorganized, unresponsive. For some, the food was overcooked and delivered warm, not hot, not cold -- hard to both overcook and not serve hot but they managed. Clientele suggestions this is a popular liked ethnic place.
The hostess wasn't at her station. When she appeared she asked "do you want to be seated?" When I said I did, she turned and walked away. I suppose I was supposed to follow her. She didn't say, "please follow me," "sorry for the wait," "right this way," nothing.
We were a party of 4. The floor and our chairs were strewn with food and drink straw wrappers. Our waitress noticed this and said "oh yeah. Kids were seated here before you." She brushed off one of the chairs at our table, and left the trash on the floor at our feet. No effort was made to clean the mess and no apology came. No one seemed to care about the appearance of their dining area.
We ordered appetizers, entrees, cocktails and wine. It took a long time to flag down our waitress to take our order. We ordered more sangria when we ordered our entrees - it never came. We finally had to flag her down to get the wine and some water, which arrived minutes before the check. She also didn't split the check, even though she said she would.
The bottom line is, the food at Lebanese Taverna is quite good, but from the door to the check, the service is not good. Our party of 4 agreed we aren't likely to return.
When we arrived, the restaurant was almost empty, so we were surprised that after more than 5 minutes we had to wave down a waiter and ask for service. Once our waiter did attend to us, the service was fine--but it's annoying to be in an empty restaurant and be basically ignored. Still, would recommend Lebanese Taverna. The food is consistently delicious, and the white sangria is excellent!
My friend and I had a wonderful dining experience at Lebanese Taverna. The food, wines, dessert and service were 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟. Our server was amazing and made great recommendations for all of our courses and they were spot on! The Lamb Fatteh, Kibbeh and Baklava Cheesecake were very delicious!
Dining on a Wednesday night in near empty restaurant. The surroundings are elegant, but the food pedestrian. Appetizers came out quickly, but the entree delivery was delayed by who knows what. Our waitress kept apologizing. Unfortunately when the food arrived it was at room temperature. Good selection of Lebanese red wines. Baklava was delicious.
Had dinner here outside during Bethesda Row restaurant week, and it was totally pleasant. Really good food, not THAT affordable, and the outdoor seating isn't ideal — wobbly, vaguely on the sidewalk, etc. That said, it was a really nice casual date and the portions were big enough that we had leftovers for lunch the next day. I'll probably be back (especially because I live next door) but won't make it a priority.
The food is consistently very good, including both the quality of the ingredients and the preparation. Two small plates (Arnabeet and shakshouky on this occasion) costing $8 each are enough for one person at lunch unless it is the major meal of the day, aas this meal was. I added Kibbeh Nayeh, my favorite lamb dish, for a filling meal. The list of wines by the glass is brief, but well chosen and reasonably priced. The service is uneven from one visit to another, but it was very good on this occasion. I love the seats by the large windows because there is lots of natural light. The interior of the restaurant is rather dark, in large part due to the dark brown finishes.
So disappointing. We went for a birthday dinner but there was nothing to celebrate about the food. The hummus combo was no better than what you would buy at a grocery store. The salmon entree was dry and overcooked. The zucchini entree lacked any seasoning. We have not been to the restaurant in a long time. We will not be going back.
