Lebanese Taverna - Bethesda Ratings and Reviews
Choosing this location to celebrate my retirement. Server was attentive until our food came. He barely returned to refill our water and I needed to have more. He seemed to want us to eat then run. Our 7pm reservation should have left ample time to talk but by 9 pm they dimmed the lights, ran the vacuum cleaner as if to alert us to get out. This was not expected and even the other [remaining] table of diners got the hint.
Good food, ample portions but we felt rushed towards the end.
This is our go-to restaurant whenever we want to have fun with friends and family. It offers options that please both vegetarians and meat-eaters, and special requests are honored to the letter. The food is delicious, and the ambience is friendly and elegant at the same time. We love Lebanese Taverna!
This place level of service and food very much reminds me of a very average diner. Service was lousy to mediocre, food at best was mediocre. We went for a friend get together so we ordered an appetizer of Hummus Trio and four dishes (a bad curry, a pretty bad vegetarian eggplant entre, lamb dish and an average salad with salmon). Veggies (carrots, celery and cucumber) on the side of hummus platter seemed to have been cut a while ago and weren't fresh. Hummus was just ok and dishes were bad.
Waiter didn't bring the chutney which was part of curry entré until we asked. He partially cleaned the table for dessert with a half used tissue that was holding in his hand.....:(
We usually dine out at the Lebanese Taverna several times a year but we were particularly pleased to dine there on Friday, October, 13, 2017, in support of the restaurants participation in the “Eating for Puerto Rico” on World Food Day fundraising campaign. Keep up the good works.
Food was excellent, from the warm white and whole wheat pitas to the lamb and shrimp dishes we ordered. Server was very friendly and good-natured, but as she also was attending to a table of 10 nearby, everything we asked for took a loong time, or was only partly done, like bringing a beer or bottle of fizzy water, but not the glass, which then took a long time to request, another long time to arrive, etc. We seemed to spend a lot of time waiting.
I have been to this restaurant many times. On this visit, our group included meat lovers, vegetarians and vegans. Everyone was happy with the menu offerings. Service was prompt and pleasant. The noise level was high in the section we were seated in, but didn't get in the way of conversation. And there was a quieter area that we could have asked to move to if we had been bothered by the noise. Nearby parking is easy and Metro is nearby. A great place!
We have dined at Lebanese Taverna in Bethesda many times over the past few years, and it has always been dependently a reliable spot for good Middle Eastern food. Based on our experience last night, they have upped their game: the food is even better, and the presentation is most attractive. Best of all was the service we received: attentive, thoughtful, gracious without being obtrusive. An excellent dining experience.
My favorite menu item here is the chef's platter, a sampling of nine dishes and three pitas. It offers a variety of very good flavors and is surprisingly filling. I usually have it with a glass of wine. While the selection of wines by the glass is small, it is well chosen and reasonably priced. A double espresso finishes of a very nice meal. Alexander, a recent addition to the staff, is very attentive and pleasant. For those who like natural light, the tables by the large windows are great.
I enjoyed the meal but the server seemed to be in a hurry. She made my friend and I feel that she wanted us to leave. While she was prompt with the order, she kept on coming back to take plates off the table before we were ready to finish our meal. The restaurant wasn't busy and the
other patrons didn't seem to be pressured to leave as we were.
The chef's platter, which consists of nine small vegetarian dishes, offers not only a variety of very good flavors, but is a good value at $14. The list of wines by the glass is brief, but is well chosen and reasonably priced. The Allan Scott sauvignon blanc is a standout. For those who like an espresso after a meal, the restaurant serves a robust one. While I like brown as a color, there can be too much of it: brown floors, brown walls, brown furniture. I prefer a table by the large windows so I can see the variety of colors and movement of Arlington Road. The service is attentive, but not intrusive.
We had family visiting from out of town and we wanted to treat them to a nice night out in Bethesda. We were seated immediately however it took a while for a waiter to come greet us, bring us menus, water, etc. (mind you the restaurant was very empty). We asked someone to please have a waiter come to our table and when he finally came over he asked "what do you want?" as if we were bothering him! I was so appalled by his demeanor that I wanted to immediately leave but for the sake of my hungry family members I kept my cool. We did let him know he was being rude and he slightly changed his attitude and we had another waiter attend to us. All in all, the food was very delicious and came out rather quickly. I personally would not want to dine here again because of such poor service. However, the food is very good so if you have the patience to deal with staff that seems bothered to serve you then this is the place for you but I'll take my money elsewhere.
Most of my party of 6 liked the food and thought it was a good dinner choice. All felt the service was terrible, un-attentive, disorganized, unresponsive. For some, the food was overcooked and delivered warm, not hot, not cold -- hard to both overcook and not serve hot but they managed. Clientele suggestions this is a popular liked ethnic place.
