Named after the slang term for members of the U.S. Marine Corps, Leatherneck Steakhouse is located on the top floor of the Marines Memorial Club and offers elegant San Francisco dining, exceptional views of the city and an excellent wine list. Executive Chef Paul Lozito has crafted superb menus perfect for a light lunch, romantic dinner or group gathering. Decorated with military memorabilia, our San Francisco steakhouse is the perfect blend of traditional with modern touches. Most nights also feature live piano music during dinner hours, making dining in San Francisco an exceptional
Very relaxing and we did not feel rushed. However, there were four of us dining and our steaks were not consistently cooked. Some were more medium-rare than others. Great view and noise level was good to hear with background noise of piano.
This is a fabulous place tha the piano player makes it so warm and adds atmosphere!
Amazing service and food. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for a steakhouse.
The view of the city at night is wonderful. We also eat here at least one night while staying in the club.
Had wonderful crab cakes and 6 oz melt in your mouth steak. No room for dessert unfortunately!
Great food and service one of my favorite restaurants in the city and the desserts are to die for
It is located at the top floor (12F) of the Mariner's Memorial Club and Hotel. The view from this restaurant is good but not so good compared with the cityscape restaurant at the Hilton (now operating again as a bar only ?!).
We reserved on 1700, opening time, but have to wait at the bar (club ?). As we had asked the window side table at the reservation, it was prepared for both of us (two) can enjoy the view.
The atmosphere is better than the Morton's nearby as lighter and less noise. Unfortunately, the piano playing was not so good according to my accompany's judge.
Taste of menu we had, clam chowder, grilled oyster, gumbo, sole are good. The price of drinks seems inexpensive but also good taste.
All staffs are very friendly as we stayed until the closing time, 2200. We enjoyed the time here.
It was our anniversary. Got there early so it wasn’t a big deal that our table wasn’t ready. Large parties eating. We were 25 feet away from a group of old white women who acted like they had never been anywhere & were loud like Hyena’s fighting over a kill. Menu was limited, but what they do they do very well. Overpriced like most Steakhouses. Nice location, unique view. Service was good.
Leathernecks is a very classy restaurant. The food is always delicious, service is always efficient. The ambiance is quiet and relaxing, not to mention the spectacular view!!!
Had visitors from out of town who had never been to the MM. we were seated at a window table which was truly appreciated. Our waiter was helpful with the menu and took great care of us. Food was wonderful! We each had a different entree and each completely happy with our meal. We will be back!
Had a lovely family dinner for my birthday. It was old fashioned quality, good value and warm service. Felt like a great blast from the past in a city that has becomes so overly expensive and pretentious. There was a Xmas tree, holiday tunes on the piano and a convivial atmosphere to go with the driving rain outside the huge windows. A hidden gem in the heart of the touristy area of San Francisco.
Decided to try Leatherneck steakhouse based on a recommendation from Willie Brown in his SF Chronicle column. He was spot on. The view is spectacular and we had the best window table in the dining room. We were seated promptly and had martinis while listing to seasonal tunes by a great pianist. Both of us had 6oz tenderloin steaks that were accompanied by wedge salads with blue cheese dressing...the non creamy kind which I prefer. My husband and I shared sides of creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. Steaks were absolutely correctly medium rare and delicious. Service was very timely with no long waits between salads, entrees and dessert. I enjoyed the meal, the building it’s in and will be back.
Nice place with pretty views. Steaks are not the best, but most of the other food is strong. Still enjoyed the dinner.
Fantastic food. Excellent view. Pro polite service.
Perfect place for dinner in the City.
Everything about the evening was superb. I would highly recommend the restaurant to anyone visiting San Francisco and looking to spend an enjoyable evening with family/friends
This is a little known gem of a restaurant with a view in San Francisco. If you are eligible to go to , I recommend it. You will not find a better value anywhere.
There were six of us for dinner. All different kinds of steak: ribeye, prime rib, filet Mignon and my niece had the capellini pasta dish with prawns. Everyone enjoyed their meal. They were able to seat us near the window and the views were great. Service was a 4/5.
VIEW OF CITY WITH TOUSTANDING FOOD, EXQUISITE STEAKS , AND FISH, ALSO, WITH A GREAT BAR, REMINDS ME OF A PUB ATMOSPHERE WIHT GOOD DRINK SERVICE. GOOD POUR.
SHOULD MAKE A RESERVATION ID YOU WANT TO EAT THERE.
Very disappointing meal, view was amazing however decor was very poor and food quality was shocking. Steak arrived basically raw when requested medium returned the steak and the replacement was equally undercooked. Far too expensive
I wouldn’t visit agai.
Outstanding, Outstanding!! One of the reasons, I keep coming back is the great customer service. Edda sets the example for others to emulate when it come to customer service. Now I know why she was" Manger of the Year" for Leatherneck Steak Out. Manolo was exceptional. great customer service skills. I brought my daughter there with her boyfriend and they enjoyed the food (steaks) the ambiance was perfect!
As long as Edda, Manolo and Gabby are there I will continue coming back. Thank you!

The restaurant was ok overall, but I was disappointed in the food, service and ambiance. I took my husband there for his 40th birthday, and we enjoyed our view at our table by the window, which is why I chose this restaurant. The steaks were amazing, but the rest of the food was underwhelming. The oysters Rockefeller was not good; heavy and overpowered by creamed spinach. The staff was pretty friendly but not super attentive. It was ok, but I wouldn’t go back.
Poor service, tough steak!! I would have sent it back if the waiter ever came back! Nice views of city.
The Marine's Memorial Club's Leatherneck Steakhouse is a steakhouse! The steaks are great! The service was nice, on time, and polite; the view of the City was spectacular. We've been here before and it's much improved -- especially the addition of tablecloths on the table -- that is a huge improvement to an already great place to eat.
Best steak Ive had in years; and I know steaks! Great wine selection and the view!! Patricia was an excellent waitress and anticipated every need. ONly negative was the maitre d, she seemed uncaring and not welcoming; she needs a personality
The Leatherneck never fails to disappoint. The cocktails and food (the lamb and prime rib were perfectly cooked and seasoned) are absolutely delicious, and the service is excellent. Add in the views of the city lights and the pianist softly playing many old favorites and you have what I consider one of the very best places to dine in San Francisco. Our evening was made when we stepped out of the elevator on leaving to be greeted by a magnificent bulldog called Cosmo - a guest at the hotel and so appropriate. Thank you Leatherneck for a wonderful evening.
Had a super time & our friends enjoyed it as well.
The bar is closed for lunch! Beer and wine only are served. Chesty is turning in his grave! Decor looks as though it is the original from the 1946 opening.
Great menu . Good was well prepared and served well. Knowledgeable staff. We look forward to our next visit.
Great steaks/prime rib, great service, beautiful view.
We went for a celebration because I propose to my girlfriend and she said yes, but disappointed in the fact that we tried to order the pasta with shrimp and they where out and the didn’t let us know as we ordered also we order the Brussels sprouts and when our food came we didn’t get it, we got the spinach side, so when we told them they gave us the spinach side for free, and when we asked if we where still getting the Brussel sprouts they said sorry where all out!! For how much we paid I don’t know if we will come back, it was suppose to be a special dinner and it turned out bad!
The restaurant was fine. We arrived 15 minutes early for our 7:30 reservation. Sat at the bar for a drink, and promptly realized the bartender (Gregory) was ignoring us. While there were only 6 of us at the bar, Gregory was too engrossed in his conversation with a female guest to notice. I asked the maitre'd to get his attention, wow-he yelled across the room, "Gregory, you have customers." So much for discrete management's attention to detail. Gregory reluctantly pulled himself away from away from his conversation with the female and took our orders. The Manhattan's were bitter, but we didn't complaint. He then began throwing empty wine bottles into the garbage with a certain amount of gusto. That when the maitre'd said our table was ready. That was the beginning of our meal.
Inexperienced waitress. Inattentive to our needs. Clueless. Food not as ordered. No solutions offered. Will not revisit or recommend. Have had other positive visits there, but this one is my last.
Food was great! Service was great! My group loved the experience.
My husband and I made reservations here for our wedding anniversary and were not disappointed. The staff was professional and friendly, the food was delicious, and the view is wonderful. Definitely recommend for any special occasion.
Wonderful evening. Food superb. Service excellent. Filet was melt in your mouth. Bread pudding was beyond heaven. And the music (Erik's piano) and the view made a PERFECT anniversary dinner.
One of the best steak houses I have ever eaten at. I had the Bison steak, perfectly prepared and very tender. The piano player added to the already great ambiance. A real treat to have a nice dinner at this restaurant.
Tiffe was a great server! We enjoyed our happy hour drinks, entree and dessert. Great views! Nice piano playing
A great combination: very nice food and an incredible view.
Great service, and delicious food! Family friendly!
I ordered oysters Rockefeller and found only a small piece of what seemed to be an oyster and one I could not find anything but creamed spinach. Ordered Ceaser salad that was very over dressed but the steak I had was well cooked. Also the carpet going into the dining room looked very dirty and kind of put me off.
Outstanding place to have dinner. Good view and great service along with music thru dinner hour.
