I wanted to love this place. Dinner was great and view was amazing. Service was terrible. When you come to a place like this, you want to see your server not for just placing food order or delivery of food only. We saw our server twice the entire night. Never received a drink refill, had to ask for check from another server and I wanted dessert but never saw our server again. So for $160.00 meal, I would actually have love to have had service. So unfortunately I can’t recommend this place.
The entire Marine Memorial Club experience was exhilarating. We thoroughly enjoyed the reverence to Marine heros, efficient service, pleasant attitudes, quality of food, the blowout breakfast and the complimentary happy hour. An over the top experience was the access to the athletic equipment and pool in the basement. Thank you for your service!
Excellent food, drink, service and views. What more could you want?
Some dishes were very good but rib eye was not cooked evenly (ordered med rare) so slightly disappointed as one can imagine when ordering rib eye. The restaurant has a great view but decor is dated/worn and could use an update.
We had a very nice window seat with a view. Food was good but not outstanding. Service was very good. Ambiance was disturbed by a screaming child two tables away. Value was on par with other San Francisco restaurants. Happy hour is packed and noisy.
Food as usual was very good. With a party of 11 however, the service was spotty and we waited an inordinate amount of time between. appetizers and meal. They also ran out of bison, my son was offered prime rib then came back and said they only had an end piece left. This is a steakhouse, so running out of meat should not have been an issue. Server, during the evening became curt with us at times because of the number of us however he was compensated with a mandatory 20% tip on a bill over a grand. will go back because the food is good but with a jaded eye, especially with other steakhouses in the area
Good food, although not spectacular. Our waitress (Helga) was either rushing us or ignoring us, but other tables with other servers did not seem to be having this problem, so I wouldn’t say service is a restaurant-wide problem. Great view. Good place for a date or special occasion.
The Marine's Memorial does a great job on all counts. We highly recommend it always,
And enjoy all visits. The Staff is exceptional; welcoming & gracious. And they love
Their jobs. It is nice to usually see familiar faces. The food is very good & great for
One constructive comment: Rm. 503 was very comfortable (Thankyou) . Suggest that
the mattresses on both beds be next on your bucket list for replacement.
Hope this is helpful......we will be back soon ! Again Thankyou .
The ambiance was quite nice where there was a pianist. But the food was underwhelming where a wedge of iceburg lettuce was served with the entrees. I had lamb chops and though the menu said Moroccan spices, It was as bland as bland. One nice thing, the lamb was very lean. I would come back and give Leatherneck a second chance because the dining room is quite nice.
Our server could also have been better trained.
Absolutely a gem. The steaks were great and the sides plentiful. Prices for San Francisco were really good. The view was terrific as well.
Staff was very flexible in meeting our reservation time changes due to traffic issues. Nice live piano music and awesome city views. Good value for the quality of food, which was also good. Nice, friendly staff. We would return and would recommend.
Girlfriend Trip to San Francisco brought us to the Marine Memorial Hotel which houses the Leatherneck Steakhouse. I was really looking forward to a steak, but there were so many delicious menu choices. Our table consumed the French Onion Soup which was very delicious. We all had the Wedge Salad, crisp cold and with an outstanding dressing. The Petrale Sole (fabulous sauce, succulent fish)was popular with two of us as were the Brussel Sprouts side. The Cioppino was full of fresh seafood with a thick, flavorful sauce and the crab shelled. The baked Pork Chop was prepared to perfection with the Green Bean side dish. The scallops were fresh and also delicious with a light sauce. The wine list was great, and our servers were attentive and polite. We had a window table with a lovely view of the city.
both my associate and I had the prime rib so unable to taste any of their other options. The Menu was quite extensive so i hate to rate the food on this one item. Prime rib was overdone so struggled for 'average'... the wedge of lettuce salad was crisp, but choices of dressing were only blue cheese, basalmic, and caesar. So great location, lovely dining room, superb views but with my limited experience there can not recommend the food.
The food was good
The service was outstanding
The view was unrivaled
The best steak in The CITY!! With the best view. The wine was great too. Also the guy playing the piano was brilliant. Can’t say enough great things about this place
One steak was overdone and another steak was right on. Truffle tater tots were greasy and way overdone. Avoid the tater tots.
Great place for a date or a special occasion with friends and family. The service is efficient, professional yet very friendly. The view of the city is incredible specially if you get a window seat. The bartender Gray makes excellent Manhattans and any other cocktail one would like. The steaks are delicious and menu price is a great value for a nice restaurant like this in downtown San Francisco.
My husband had the scallops - nice portion and excellent. I had the New York Steak and the French Onion Soup - both excellent. We ordered a side of creamed spinach and loved it. We especially enjoyed hearing Jerome, the pianist play the old standards during dinner. That was so nice and so rare these days. Wish the tables had tablecloths but the view was wonderful and overall a highly enjoyable evening.
A must-visit in San Francisco because of the view. This is not sweeping and does not include the bay, but gives an atmospheric perspective on rooftops and many mostly high, but not the highest and newest, buildings in the Union Square neighbourhood. So for those whose memory of San Francisco is partly from old-ish movies, it's a bit of a throwback to the era before the city's downtown was littered with really tall skyscrapers, becoming so much like any other USA downtown. As a steakhouse it's well up to scratch, and the prime rib, which I had, is particularly good. Reasonable by-the-glass wine list. Finally, the setting in the Marines Memorial Club is different and enjoyable. I only withheld the final stars because there is nothing particularly different or distinctive about the food, good as it is. Then again, it is good value for a USA steak joint. I would be tempted to re-visit whenever in town.
A lovely relaxing dinner at a window table overlooking the city. Delicious crab cakes, flavorful steaks, and the best tater tots I have ever had. Service was attentive, but not overbearing. This restaurant has come a long way in the last five years.
Great place to celebrate my husband's 72nd birthday!
Just an overall wonderful experience. We stayed in the hotel for my husband's birthday. The menu offered steak, chicken, fish, a vegetable dish, etc. My husband had the smaller prime rib that looked thick and large to me. I had chicken that was very tasty, with fresh veggies. The wine list was above adequate and we belong to two wine groups, one is a Bordeaux group. The hot rolls are my downfall and the chocolate cake was my husband's treat. All was very good with excellent service while we listened to a piano player who also sang romantic sonds. I recommend the restaurant and the hotel.
It was my wife’s birthday and we decided to dine at the Leatherneck for dinner. We ordered a New York steak and a Ribeye with steak fries. The ribeye was very good the New York not so much, ordered it well done but it was rare but let it go since our waiter was hard to track down the entire night. The waiter really want never around at first it was nice to allow us to decide on our meals but afterwards it was frustrating since we wanted to order other things, drinks & desert, but had to wave down another waiter to get some service. The meal was over priced for what we got and quite frankly it was really nothing special at all.
This restaurant was very enjoyable and pleasant. Staff were the best. Love the view, the menu and the food. We are definitely coming back for more.
Overall excellent! Food was delicious, great waiter, love the view!
The service was amazing and the manager was polite. He noticed we had children present and offered suggestions since they didn’t have a kids menu. They were accommodating and the food was amazing! Can’t wait to come back. Only downfall is it seemed like our server wasn’t in the best mood and it showed. The dinner would have been better if she smiled more.
This was our 3rd visit. 1st two times were great. This time, it was like the kitchen was off.
Ordered vegetarian polenta and it came cold (it was not suppose to be served cold) & with a skim coat like it had been sitting out for a while before being served. Other entree was the petrale sole. This too was barely warm and the sauce was like an oil slick. Very disappointing.
We had an excellent meal there a few months ago. Tonight was a real disappointment. Busboy broke a glass at the table and didn’t say anything about it. Steaks wee poorly cooked. Service was generally mediocre
We enjoyed a wonderful dinner. I had the filet and my husband had the scallops, both excellent. Our server was warm, friendly and made our evening even better!!
Très bon restaurant. La viande est excellente et cuite comme il faut.
Le service est très agréable .
N’hesitez pas à vous promener dans les étages à la descente, l’hotel est superbe et réserve plein de surprises ;-)
If you wish an evening with good friends, and a friendly ambiance, similar to a pub, but with a greeat view, with lots of friendly military vets at the Bar, outstanding steaks and food at compettive rates you mustg try this historic landmark HOtel and restarualrant , that was set up to honor the Marines, but also all our MIlitary Veterans....
And ALL profits go for assisting Veterans and active duty personnel, to achieve thie life goals.
Once a year it also hosts the Gold Star Parents weekend, with paid accomodations and services to honor those who felll in thelin eof duty. Parents fro alll over the United States come to this weekend event.
The restaurant has great views of the City, but you must make reservations in advance.
I t is convneintly located near Union Square, the center , and heart of San Francisco..
And it is important to see the Memorila Honor Walls dedicaed to those who have served , as well
as the Medal of Honor Floor of our Heroes.
This restaurant is very good value, very quiet and relaxing.
Wonderful service. Delicious food plentiful menu. Great for special occasions or
Food was good but the service wasn't that good. The person who was supposed to bus the table was surly and left a bunch of empty dishes on table so there wasn't room for our main dishes even though he had time to sit in the lounge and watch t.v. He also didn't respond verbally to even a simple hello, please or thank you. We asked for more wine and never received. It was too expensive for such shabby service. I would not recommend them to anyone.
The restaurant was a great choice for my birthday. The view was spectacular. The food was amazing. My only regret is that I ordered my prime rib medium well, which was a no no. I wish the waiter would have stepped in and said, "are you sure you want to order it medium well." Ordering the prime rib medium well was definitely a mistake; however, I did not want to send it back, since I did order it that way. Besides that small faux pas on my part, everything was fantastic. The view and the ambiance was amazing. I will definitely recommend this hidden gem to all my friends and family and want to go back very soon and order the prime rib medium rare!
Great steaks, great service. Seated promptly . Great clientele
Everything was more than expected. The view was great as was the food and service. My only complaint (and this seems to be a trend among better restaurants) was the lack of table cloths. Come on now, when you are charging top dollar, you can afford table cloths.
For my wife's birthday, it turned out to be a most pleasant surprise to us, never having been here before. The meal itself was most satisfying and lived up to our best expectations. The service and ambiance could not have been more attentive and pleasant. We were seated at a window, and to add to our pleasure, we were treated to one of San Francisco's excellent views. We will certainly return - and probably bring some lucky friends with us.
One of the high points of staying at the Marine Memorial
