I t is convneintly located near Union Square, the center , and heart of San Francisco..
And it is important to see the Memorila Honor Walls dedicaed to those who have served , as well
as the Medal of Honor Floor of our Heroes.
This restaurant is very good value, very quiet and relaxing.
Wonderful service. Delicious food plentiful menu. Great for special occasions or
Food was good but the service wasn't that good. The person who was supposed to bus the table was surly and left a bunch of empty dishes on table so there wasn't room for our main dishes even though he had time to sit in the lounge and watch t.v. He also didn't respond verbally to even a simple hello, please or thank you. We asked for more wine and never received. It was too expensive for such shabby service. I would not recommend them to anyone.
The restaurant was a great choice for my birthday. The view was spectacular. The food was amazing. My only regret is that I ordered my prime rib medium well, which was a no no. I wish the waiter would have stepped in and said, "are you sure you want to order it medium well." Ordering the prime rib medium well was definitely a mistake; however, I did not want to send it back, since I did order it that way. Besides that small faux pas on my part, everything was fantastic. The view and the ambiance was amazing. I will definitely recommend this hidden gem to all my friends and family and want to go back very soon and order the prime rib medium rare!
Great steaks, great service. Seated promptly . Great clientele
Everything was more than expected. The view was great as was the food and service. My only complaint (and this seems to be a trend among better restaurants) was the lack of table cloths. Come on now, when you are charging top dollar, you can afford table cloths.
For my wife's birthday, it turned out to be a most pleasant surprise to us, never having been here before. The meal itself was most satisfying and lived up to our best expectations. The service and ambiance could not have been more attentive and pleasant. We were seated at a window, and to add to our pleasure, we were treated to one of San Francisco's excellent views. We will certainly return - and probably bring some lucky friends with us.
One of the high points of staying at the Marine Memorial
Had a dinner here before a theatre. Very nice steakhouse with reasonable prices and a beautiful view. All entrees come with a salad wedge with blue cheese dressing, my husband does not eat dairy and they offered him a balsamic vinaigrette. The bread basket comes not just with butter, but also with oil and balsamic vinegar AND a head of roasted garlic!Very yummy. Steaks were good and made to our liking, we had the brussel sprouts and mushroom side dishes, all very good. We closed with a bread pudding, which was a little too nutmeggy. Over all, we will dine here again.
Great food! Great views! Would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for fabulous steak at reasonable prices!
We defiantly enjoyed out dinner. Glad we stopped by---LOVED our view.
Has declined markedly in last 6 months. Server was very inattentive.
We were pleased to have discovered the Leatherneck Steakhouse! It is atop the Marines Memorial building with a wonderful view of the city.
We both enjoyed the steaks that we ordered.
Outstanding. Best steaks. Excellent sides and appetizers. Superb service
Great food and service. First time ever having rack of lamb that had a mint sauce. Other restaurants provide a heavy brown sauce.
This restaurant was very enjoyable in a stylish old school way. A friend and I met for dinner on a Tuesday evening around 6. The place was quiet but relaxed. The steaks were done perfectly and the Brussels Sprouts were nicely roasted. The city view was good but we were coming from the top of the Mark Hopkins so it didn’t compare. The wine list needs a few more reds, preferably with a little age, but we made do with one of the blends, Paraduxx. I would try this again and recommend it, particularly to anyone with ties to or appreciation of the U.S. Marine Corps.
For starters, the view down to Union Square from the 12th floor is fantastic, day or night. The entree comes with their signature wedge salad which is really great. Then you select a couple of sides which are well prepared. My wife and I split an entree and sides but bought an additional wedge salad so we each had our own to enjoy. Low lights, live background piano music and really good food and service. Overall a great place to dine in San Francisco.
Had an amazing time at Leatherneck Steakhouse. Ribeye was perfect and the Lamb melted in the mouth. Loved the sides of mushrooms and asparagus. The view of the skyline was great. The perfect place for a special dinner. Oh, the service by all made the evening.
This was my first time at Leatherneck Steakhouse, and my feelings are mixed. The location, view, and piano player were fantastic. We were seated by the window as requested. The bar was full and reasonably priced for S.F. Service was spotty but not horrible. The food was amazing except for the steaks. Which is bizarre because this is a steakhouse. The sides were fantastic (especially the creamed spinach and truffle tater tots), the wine list was solid and well priced, the wedge salad accompanying each meal was a nice touch, and the french onion soup was perfect. But the prime rib was overcooked and flavorless. My husband got a rib eye, a friend got the fillet, and both were similarly not impressed. Odd that a steakhouse can't get steak right. But the rest of the meal was wonderful.
Good food, great city San Fran. Good location with a beautiful view.
Food was pretty good, but the service was haphazzard. One of those places where the busboys were more responsive than our primary server.
Atmosphere was neat, my dinner for the value just ok.
Server didn’t bring soda as requested. Steak cooked on the rare side, it was basically red all the way through and not very good flavor. Almost reminded me of the favor of popcorn. Mac and cheese reminds me of the microwave velveta dinners. I highly recommend Fogo or Ruth’s chris over leatherneck. Unless you are looking for a view this isn’t the place to go for a steak.
Just for fun
Overall, a favorable experience. Loved the piano entertainment. Reminded me of supper club atmosphere, which I prefer in dining.
Excellent food and very good service with lovely piano playing commencing at 5:30 pm during the week days (exception Sun-Mon when closed). View was beautiful with close-up to the heart of downtown and in the distance the cloud skyline blended with the edge of the Bay water. Recommend making reservations in advance to acquire window seating. Ambiance was quiet for conversation. This is a gem of a roof top restaurant.
The atmosphere was very pleasant. The stake sandwich was tender and very flavorful. If you are looking for a place for great food and to be able to have a conversation without shouting, then this is the place. We will be back . I would also add the staff was very punctual and professional.
It was great. Got seated right by the window as I asked for. Food was good. Cooked right and came out on a timely manner.
Food, service, view, and ambiance all were great. Elevator getting to the restaurant was a little scary. Shuttered and stopped somewhere near the 11th floor for about 1/2 a minute but finally got us to the 12th floor.
We love this place! It has wonderful views, wonderful food and a lovely ambiance. A good restaurant that feels like old San Francisco.
The food was excellent. Great view of downtown San Francisco. Our server was very friendly but didn't really know her job. Unused wine glasses, empty beer bottles and bread plates were left on the table. She had to be asked to remove or bring items.
great service with a good view and food food too!
The bar area is very nice where you can meet talk before dinner.
Straight forward; uncomplicated and excellent in all respects
- Amazing view of SF
- Decent prices
- Prime rib was excelent
- Food was so-so:
* oysters were good
* (New England style) clam chowder was bad, more of a vegetable cream with some clams thrown in.
* Grilled Ahi tuna was not seared but rather over-cooked; also, it was not Ahi, but most likely Yellowtail.
* Espresso was not that great either.
- service was so-so, even though the restaurant was not busy.
- no sparkling mineral water (e.g. Perrier, San Pellegrino, etc.). The only sparkling water was soda.
Interesting, historic building. Fabulous city view. Full bar. Service friendly but a little off. Food good and good value.
The Leatherneck did not disappoint -- again! The service was excellent. The food was delicious. My steak was cooked to perfection and the sides and sauces were perfect. Homemade tater tots cooked in truffle oil must be ordered! This was my fourth time dining her and it is now my #1 choice when looking for a steakhouse downtown. I also adore the piano player. His lovely playing is a perfect accompaniment to the stunning view atop the Marine Memorial building.
I absolutely loved it. There is a live jazz piano playing at the place.
Both waiters/waitresses and customers were polite and well-mannered. The place had good ambiance - jazz music playing the background, people chatting in a normal voice (so no loud / drunk group ).
The place also has a great view.
There is certainly nothing wrong with the Leatherneck Steakhouse as long as you set the right expectations. The food is adequate, the servers are young with a modicum of experience and the view is excellent. I probably set my sights on something more refined having spent many evenings at other local steakhouses, but this is not on par with them which is fine. It is certainly a hit with the regulars as a well as visitors and I wish them well though I will likely not return.
