Leaf is a popular Charleston restaurant that strives to incorporate local ingredients and organic foods into every dish served from the kitchen. Whether you're seated inside or outside, the atmosphere is calm and relaxing. Large elm trees reach over the outside tables and shade the area from the sun, making it possible to be comfortable even on the sunniest days.
At Leaf, you can order a delicious Sunday brunch featuring your choice of scrumptious breakfast and lunch dishes as well as a cocktail. During the week, lunch and dinner are offered daily. Begin your meal with freshly made pita chips & dip or a platter of Brie cheese and berries before moving on to your entrée. Enjoy a crisp salad (with or without meat added), soups, sandwiches and melts, meatloaf, fish & chips, stuffed pork loin, Scottish salmon and other tasty delicacies served at Leaf.
Leaf is a great Charleston restaurant. We've eaten here often over the years and made one last trip before it closes at end of January. We will miss it.
Everyone in our party ordered the Restaurant Week specials and every dish was excellent (beef tenderloin, chicken and salmon)!!The tomato/lobster bisque was outstanding! We had to wait beyond our reservation time because of the crowd but the staff was very attentive during that time. The atmosphere is so nice that we didn't mind at all. We have been to Leaf many times and always have a wonderful experience! We have always recommended Leaf very highly to family and friends, and take visitors there every time we have company. Can not recommend highly enough!!
Restaurant week gave us the chance to try Leaf and we are glad we did. Great atmosphrer, friendly staff and good food. We want to go back when we can sit outside.
Very unfortunate they are closing. Food and service were fantastic. A very pleasant experience for my wife and I.
The restaurant is visually very pretty with soft lighting. Service is excellent. Food is good and a real plus for Charleston the noise level is low and the parking garage is right across the street. One of our favorite places for Sunday brunch on the outdoor patio followed by 2nd Sunday stroll of King Street.
Complete and diverse menu for lunch/ lovely mussels and salmon sandwich. Would definitely return!
Went for a casual meal with my daughters. I had the tomato bisque and a caprese salad. Daughter 1 had the shrimp PoBoy and daughter 2 had the short rib grilled cheese. Everyone enjoyed her meal. The food was reasonably priced and the service was good, but a bit impersonal.
It is really too bad how mismanaged this place is. The place is lovely, great location, great porch, nice bar and atmosphere BUT this is the 2nd time I've been in 6 months and both experiences were just terrible. The first time the food was decent but the service was horrendous, this most recent time I figured I'd give it another go, but this time the service was at least better (although not once were we asked if we wanted another round of drinks, despite having empty glass throughout dinner and afterwards) but my dinner entree (short ribs) was so bad it had to be sent back and I had lost my appetite at that point. My fiance' had the lobster bisque which was so salty we could only take a few bites and the lobster tail which was tiny!
I really hope some new owners/management take on this restaurant because it would be such a great place if only the service and food were better!
The staff was friendly and prompt. The food was great! While the restaurant was very clean and the ambiance was spot on, the floor was very slippery and quite hazardous to walk on if not wearing flats.
We had a great server, who did very well with our three year old. Food was good, though not outstanding. There were TVs in the bar area, which were loud enough to hear from outside patio; luckily we were seated in the back section.
My mother always said that you can always find something good in everything, so here goes: the server was attentive, chairs were very comfortable and, overall, it is a visually beautiful restaurant.
Great ambience in and out. imaginative menu, especially the appetizers. Off the beaten path; it's great.
My husband ordered the following menu item:
Cherry balsamic glazed short ribs which sounded wonderful.
What he received was several slices of fatty, dry, tasteless meat.
There wasn't a hint of the cherry balsamic glaze that was described.
My husband, nice guy that he is, committed to eating his meal since the waiter did not return to ask how everything was for quite some time. My husband kindly told another server that his meal was awful and that it might be something to discuss with the chef. The only redeeming thing our server did was half-heartedly apologize and comp us a glass of wine. My two daughters and I had acceptable food.
Great warm relaxing place Service was right on and the food was terrific - the short ribs were killer
Our reservations for 5 were for noon on Sunday, and we arrived a little early. Our friends were running a behind, and we were now going to be 4 instead of the 5 that we'd booked. The staff was very accommodating and setup our table while we hovered over some sparling at the bar as we waited. Brunch included Bloody Marys or Mimosas and we asked for those when we sat at our table to study the menu. There were choices on the menu to satisfy a variety of palates and the plates were plentiful. Food was fresh and delicious. Servers were attentive but not intrusive and we lacked for nothing while enjoying our meal.
Loved sitting outside in Leaf's beautiful courtyard for Sunday brunch. Loved that a mimosa was INCLUDED with my meal, too. The food was good but seemed to be lacking something that I couldn't quite put my finger on. I would recommend based on location and beautiful setting.
Great business lunch place - allows for private talks
My guests and I had such an amazing time at Leaf for my 26th birthday!! Mike, our server was AMAZING! The overall experience was top-notch. I always love Leaf and am so glad I picked such a great spot to celebrate my birthday! I will be back again with more people!
Excellent food! Glad we went there. Really enjoyed the open wall where we could sit inside and enjoy the cool air, but have the outside ambience.
We lived in Greenville for 10 years and one of the most popular restaurants there offered 2-3 "small plate" entrees each evening. It was just the right size for a woman....who is not starving.
My shrimp risotto was fabulous but I had to bring half of it home.
Just a thought. Don't think many restaurants in Charleston offer the "small plate". You could become noted for this option.
Enjoyed dinner there on Sat. night. Overall experience did not disappoint. Beautiful evening, fantastic entertainment, French doors were open to the patio. Food was excellent. I had the day boat scallops and my husband had the short ribs. Mine had delish succotash with spinach and a lobster sauce. Short ribs came with collards & mashed potatoes...followed by killer key lime pie. Also enjoyed a great glass of fume blanc. My only wish is that they add some new items to the menu. We eat there often enough that some change would be welcome.
Nice ambiance, good service, reasonable but disappointing food. Second time I've been here. My Risotto was THE blandest dish I've eaten in Charleston (I've lived hear 10 months), and in fact, probably the most uninspiring risotto I've ever eaten.
We've tried twice now to have a girls lunch and twice the service was horrible. Will be moving onto other options. Do have to say the food was goo.
We went to Leaf based on a recommendation where we were staying. Initially, we thought we would sit inside. However, as we passed the outside patio, we immediately changed our minds. The outside patio was gorgeous! Nice lighting with trees, shrubs, and flowers. Very quiet and the food was good!
Our food was great but our server took a long time getting us the food, and was not very attentive.
Visiting my daughter at CoC, we had stuffed French toast, eggs Benedict, and an omelet - all were fantastic! Our services was friendly and helpful! We will definitely put Leaf on our list to return to next trip to Charleston!
The service was outstanding! The wait staff really took good care of us & were very helpful when we informed them one of our diners had food allergies. The food was outstanding except for the calamari, which was tough (they didn't charge us). We will go back.
The setting is great outside under the trees -- even with a squirrel dropping leaves on us when we first arrived. The server was very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. But the food was only average. I ordered the salmon and it was cooked a little more than what I expected. The grits didn't really have much flavor. My sister said the same regarding her food as well as the food just being average.
The service was lack luster. It took us a while to even be acknowledge when we walked in the door, even longer to be approached by our wait staff. The service didn't pick up from there. The setting was awesome, but the restaurant was difficult to find when walking. I had the risotto which was good, but the burger and the shoulder sandwich weren't anything to write home about.
With all the terrific restaurants in Charleston, I'd steer clear of LEAF. Great location, nice setting, romantic patio, LEAF has a lot going for it. Unfortunately food is not one of them. I had to send back a simple steak, and what half way decent restaurant doesn't know how to cook a steak. My wife's crab cakes were better, but not great. Even my drink was watered down. A foodie friend in town confirmed what I found out, LEAF is not known for great food.
We went for a brunch with friends visiting us from overseas and we were pleased with the entire experience
Leaf was great for both indoor and outdoor dining. We went twice in our 5 day stay in Charleston and would definitely go back again.
We came to have dinner with College of Charleston daughters and their friends. The food varies from salads, sandwiches, and burgers to pasta and formal entrees (after 5 p.m.). All of the food was very good. Burgers, pasta dishes, scallops and salmon entrees were well-prepared and fresh. Service was okay; a bit spotty at times for some reason. There is an outdoor patio for dining during good weather. The bar was popular with two wide screen TV's each showing a different SEC football game. Fun place to come and relax and/or have a casual meal.
We stopped at Leaf on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Service was very good, and it is a beautiful space. Perhaps it was what I ordered, but the food was just okay. A grilled portabella mushroom sandwich with avocado. The latter was sparse, and the sandwich was a tad too greasy overall. The parmesan truffle fries were good. My husband's salad with salmon on top was also good. I have heard good things about the restaurant; I would recommend it but with reservations.
We are from out of town and will definitely return. The brunch options were great and the atmosphere was welcoming. The live music is definitely a plus!
Loved the atmosphere and general feel of the place. Very nice waiter. Food was good, but not the best in town.
Calamari was a little tough and lacked any flavor. Sauce was good, with a little heat.
Risotto was good, but I think a little undercooked and too al dente.
Filet and other items very good.
Went here for brunch with a group of 7. Great experience! Our server was attentive but not overbearing. Menu has a nice variety, but not too expansive. Prices are reasonable, and include your choice of mimosa or bloody mary. Most of our party ordered something different so we could each try a variety. Everything I tried was delicious! Will return for sure!
2 adults went for brunch Sunday morning and was seated outside. They were busy but it felt so calm outside. There was a keyboard and bass player playing soft jazz. The music was not overwhelming but a perfect supplement to the incredible food and attentive service.
I normally LOVE this restaurant but the this time I went I was extremely disappointed. The service and the food are not up to the quality that it used to be. I used to go to Leaf all the time and recently I haven't been in awhile but I was extremely disappointed to see that it was not to the standard that I remember. The waiter even forgot to bring me part of my meal which I don't normally make a fuss about but then it was on my check! If you're not going to bring me what I wanted then at least don't charge me for something you didn't even bring to the table. Again I love leaf and will go back again but if I get the same service as last time I won't be returning. Praying it was just a fluke!
The service was good, the drinks were nice, appetisers were tasty however the main dishes were not. I ordered the scallops and it was salty and inedible. Other dishes ordered had a strange combination and also not pleasant to eat.
