Unfortunately this was the final night under the current owner. He has retired after he lost his wife and sold to a french restaurant in Glen Park.
The food was excellent! The only waiter on duty was much too busy without any busboy showing up. He did his best considering, but directed a quip to me that I did not appreciate that "I could complain on YELP".

French thru and thru. Nice bistro, friendly staff, and food just like you would find in a Paris equivalent. Great wine choices, too.

Always reliably good. Le Zinc is our favorite for luncheon and dinner get togethers. We were there for dinner last Friday and for lunch again yesterday. A pleasure to dine there.

The charming decor at Le Zinc gives the restaurant the feel of a genuine French bistro. Unfortunately, the food doesn't measure up to the same standard. I ordered an appetizer of escargots, which were easily the worst I have ever tasted. I couldn't quite identify what accompanied them, but whatever it was, it was slightly burnt. The main course (a beef bourgignon) was much better, with a hearty rich flavor. However, it was downhill again with the dessert. The creme brule just didn't have the luscious, creamy texture of a first rate custard. The service was attentive and friendly, but at 7:00 pm on a holiday weekend, the waiter only had two tables of dinner guests to occupy his time.

The food was okay BUT the service was terrible and the most surprising thing of all this is.... we were served by the owner of the the restaurant, yes the owner!!! We were 4 friends at this table and we were all under the impression that we were bothering him.... He was sad, angry and unpleasant to us during the whole diner!!! Guys, there plenty of nice french restaurants in the city, This restaurant does'n;t worth the trip.

The place felt sad and empty, feels like its going out of business. Had to send overcooked steak back - not good for a French restaurant.

Le Zinc is a traditional, authentic french bistro in midst of SF. Max does a fine job of keeping the cuisine, decor and service loyal to his origins. Traditional items like Beef Bourguignon and Fois Gras a featured on the menu, as are a selection of wines across the price spectrum.

The restaurant has great ambience but the food was subpar especially for the price they were charging. There was no love in the prep. The service was attentive. Highlight of the meal was the wine flight.

The proffered ambience of a French brasserie is pretty much successfully achieved, and without pretense or forceful production. Among the lunch offerings, and my favorite, is the steak tartare. This was the second interview of a musician I've conducted there, and I find the relaxed outdoor setting and friendly service are supportive of my professional purpose.

We have been coming here for years, most often over the last two years while we have lived in Noe. Service has completely gone down the tubes in that time. I know the owner's wife passed so that must be difficult, but perhaps someone else should handle front of house. Waitstaff are also inattentive even when we were one of 2 parties in the whole place. The only saving grace is that the food is still decent. But we won't be back anytime soon.

Our third time there. First was New Year's Eve - service was quick and abrupt, food was great, vibrant scene (NY eve of course). Second was September 2015 - service was basic and lukewarm, food was a mix bag with some dishes truly great and others mediocre. This is our third time there - service was icy cold without any "hello" or welcoming smiles, wine service a disgrace, buser was rough and unrefined, food was mediocre and average. Won't be going back for a while.

Not welcoming when we walked in.

Felt as though we were putting them out when we asked for something. The French man should not be in a position where he deals with the public. He was dismissive

The other waiter was polite

There were five of us, three visiting from the Midwest. The staff were welcoming and professional, clear about additions to the menu. We enjoyed Kir Royales, French Onion Soup, mussels and Salade Nicoise--all well prepared and well presented. The price represented good value.
I often come here alone for lunch in the garden. And fairly regularly we enjoy dinner. Just what one wants in a neighborly French restaurant.

Came here on a Saturday night with some out of town visitors. Surprised that we were able to get a last minute reservation for 6 people, and even more surprised how dead the restaurant was. Our waiter (owner?) was a bit cranky. However, the food was delicious and a decent wine list. We didn't get dessert, much to the dismay of our waiter. I'd give this place a shot.

This was our second visit to Le Zinc and we were hoping for a nice relaxing experience. The ambiance is pleasant and the food is average to good, however on this occasion the service was awful. The owner who serves every table was food and overall make our experience a negative one. We won't return.

I usually love this place, however, the pre-fix menu on Valentine's day was quite disappointing and very expensive. The waiter mixed up our order with our neighbor's order (same exact) so my steak was overdone as opposed to medium done. Additionally being forced to eat dessert was somewhat acceptable but there was only one option; so we both had to eat the same dessert. It came out to a pricey dinner and not really worth the quality.

Le Zinc is a convenient option if you are already in the neighborhood. Service was courteous and prompt to take our order. I would have liked the server to check in and see if we needed anything during the meal. The portions we generous, although the duck and steak we ordered could have been prepared better as both we really chewy.

Le Zinc offers a unique dining experience for those who favor French bistros - from cheeses to the omelets to the wicker seating, this place is the real deal. They have a $19 prixe-fixe lunch with multiple courses that should satisfy the hungriest American (portions of all dishes are quite generous). For those with smaller appetites, there is a wide selection of soups, salads, crepes, and omelets. All dishes seem to be accompanied by delicious fresh baguette slices.

Out of wine we ordered. Asked for more bread, got two slices for four people. Told waiter about food allergies, ordered dinner. Food arrived, tasted it, realized I could not eat it because of allergy. Sent it back. No apologies, no offer to replace it - just returned the same fish on a saucer. Check came - was charged for uneaten food. Protested, charge removed. Left hungry, but at least didn't end up in hospital. Someone else might not be so lucky.
