About Le Yaca
Le Yaca began in a tiny, country village(Courchevel)in the French Alps in 1964.Daniele Bourderau & Gerard decided that it would be fun to open a small restaurant. When friends learned of their plans they told the hopeful restaurateurs that they were crazy to think that people would drive 8 kilometers on a winding, icy road for dinner.Daniele and Gerard hesitated for 3 months and then decided: “yaca le faire,” a contraction of the French phrase “ il n’y a qu’a le faire” which basically means “let’s do it.” They called the restaurant Le Yaca as a gag. But the name caught on with customers, who were amused by the pun and contributed to the restaurant’s lore by inventing “yaca-isms ” of their own: yaca y aller (let’s go). Daniele came to the United States & opened Le Yaca in Williamsburg.Daniel Abid bought le Yaca in 2001. Daniel worked and trained in such prestigious places as “Le Pre Catelan” and “Lenotre” in Paris; “L’Amandier” and “Roger Verge" and to top it all off “Alain Ducasse.”

Le Yaca Ratings and Reviews
My husband and I had our anniversary dinner here at Le Yaca and it was nothing but AMAZING! Our sever Briana was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and described in great detail how everything was served, and it was exactly how she painted the picture. The meal was incredible from the start to the end. I would HIGHLY recommend Le Yaca for any occasion.
This was our second time dining at Le Yaca. I’m not going to compare this to the first visit, both were memorable. The sophomoric experience was even greater made so by the fantastic staff member who helped us. Her knowledge of wine for example helped make our meal all the better. The only way this restaurant would receive a lower grade was if it was compared to The Inn at Little Washington. ‘Nuff said!
We were visiting family in Williamsburg and decided to have dinner at Le Yaca. This original restaurant has always been one of our favorites and it continues to impress! Our server Briana was Outstanding and we were seated in a cozy location. The food and service were superb and we enjoyed a special evening here. We Highly Recommend dining at Le Yaca!
This was my second time dining here but my wife’s first. After my first dining experience, I knew I had to bring my wife and now I am planning to get some other friends to join us for dinner there again. Quite impressive restaurant, great food and very kind staff...what more could I ask for?
Super Outstanding !!!!
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our time at Le Yaca. From the great parking spot to the incredible 3 course meal to the most amazing fun we ever had at any restaurant. Between the loving waitress (Brianna), and who I believe was the maitre de (don't remember his name ) we never felt abandoned and they made us feel like they really cared for us. We simply had the most fun and enjoyable time.
My husband and I have enjoyed dinner at La Yaca on several occasions. We had dinner at La Yaca again on 11/2/17 with friends who never had been to the restaurant. As usual, everything about the evening was first class - our meal, the wine, the service, the atmosphere. Our friends thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Definately order the Grand Marnier souffle! La Yaca is a bit more expensive than other restaurants but worth every penny.
As long time customers, we went for the Thurs nite lamb-in-the-fireplace dinner. The food was excellent - the lamb was melt-in-your mouth. There were, however, some issues. We were in the room opposite the bar and the foursome at the table next to us in the corner became more and more boisterous as the night went on. The wine list on an iPad is a bust. First, the machine is too heavy. In addition, it did not have all wines by the glass listed. They have a nice Bordeaux by the glass that was not listed. Our server retrieved a second iPad that listed all wines by the glass, including the one we were seeking. Finally, the chairs at our table were too low for the table making for an awkward evening. In the future we will ask for a table where the chairs are at a proper height.
A restaurant which has gotten better with time. Consistently good, high-quality food. Service is great. Wait staff knows its wines. We have been diners at Le Yaca for years and will continue. All servers are good, but we have been served by Walter for years. It's nice when your waiter can remember what wine you liked and what evening special you may be interested in. We're lucky to have Le Yaca so near.
It was my wife's birthday and to celebrate we and friends visited Le Yaca. I chose Le Yaca because it is one of our favorite restaurants as the food is always wonderful. This time was no exception. Everything we had was very delicious. Plus, the layout of the restaurant allowed us to be at a table where it was quiet enough that we could hold a conversation without being disturbed or our conversation disturbing those dining around us. The wine list was extensive and we found a wine that we all enjoyed. Our waiter was attentive. We will return.
An absolutely wonderful evening celebrating my spouses birthday. Our server Charles took care of our every need and the entire staff was the best we have experienced ..........since the last time we dined at Le Yaca! This restaurant is beyond a doubt the best all around location to dine in Hampton Roads.
This was our second time at Le Yaca and it did not disappoint. We will be back. We went for the lunch on a Saturday. The pre fixe menu is an excellent value. The dishes are well prepared, the wait staff is attentive but not excessively pushy. We are fairly quick eaters and the dishes were cleared promptly but they did not try to rush us out the door. Overall an excellent experience.
I ate at Le Yaca almost 40 years ago, not long after they opened. It was wonderful then and still is wonderful. The food is superb and the service is impeccable. The prix fix menu is very reasonable, too. Highly recommended French menu with contemporary twists. I wish I lived closer than 3 hours...
It was our 27th wedding anniversary and we most definitely picked the right restaurant, because we love GREAT FOOD!! We have lived in Newport News and Williamsburg our entire lives, and this is the first time dining at Le Yaca. My only regret is that we didn't do this sooner, and that there is no Le Yaca in Newport News. What a shame to live in the food desert!! But if we have to drive North or South of NN to enjoy such wonderful meals, I guess that's what we'll do! Thanks again, and can't wait to return!!
Everything overall was great, from the seating to the service. This was my first time in a french restaurant and I thought it was very wonderful. However, I had to send my food back for being overcooked in which they took care of very quickly. Noise level was extremely high so it was hard to conversate during meal, next time I will request a more quiet area which they have.
So I definitely would recommend this place and thank you to the wonderful staff, loved it.
Friendly reception beginning at the front door. All menu items are delicious and nicely presented. My husband got the wreck fish (sea bass) and I got my favorite (poached salmon). Both were excellent. The fish special is almost always outstanding. Also nice reasonable sized salads and good soups.
La Yaca continues to be exceptional.
Through changing venues, new owners, and years of time, La Yaca provides the same fabulously delicious meals it started with. Every dish is beautifully plated and served hot or cold as required. My recent visit with my husband and another couple was declared an epicurean delight. Everyone choose the three course lunch Prix Fixe Special.
My Petite Filet Mignon á I’Ėchalote was perfectly cooked and very tinder with a marvelous Port Wine Demi-Glace. The starter course of French Onion Soup was rich and creamy with slivers of cheese on top which quickly melted. The Crème Brûlée finishing dish was wonderfully flavored and delightfully crusted.
Everyone enjoyed the Onion Soup. The other couple expressed much pleasure with their Scallops and Shrimp baked with Parmesan Velouté “en cocotte.” The dish looked absolutely delicious. The warm choclate cake with vanilla ice cream was chosen by the two men and the Creme Brulle chosen by my lady friend. All were given high marks.
The only disappointing plate of the multiple courses was my husband’s Pork Tenderloin Duo. Although he ate it all, he said it was not flavorfully prepared. It looked pale as if it had been boiled or microwaved instead of broiled or grilled. Salt was required even though the two sauces were okay. In all of our meals at La Yaca, this is the first dish we did not find very satisfactory.
All of the uniformed wait staff appeared to be very good. Our waiter, Maksyn, was pleasant, very well versed on the wines, and attentive without being intrusive.
La Yaca is indeed a fine dining restaurant. It is lovely and chic but not stuffy.
