About Le Yaca

Le Yaca began in a tiny, country village(Courchevel)in the French Alps in 1964.Daniele Bourderau & Gerard decided that it would be fun to open a small restaurant. When friends learned of their plans they told the hopeful restaurateurs that they were crazy to think that people would drive 8 kilometers on a winding, icy road for dinner.Daniele and Gerard hesitated for 3 months and then decided: “yaca le faire,” a contraction of the French phrase “ il n’y a qu’a le faire” which basically means “let’s do it.” They called the restaurant Le Yaca as a gag. But the name caught on with customers, who were amused by the pun and contributed to the restaurant’s lore by inventing “yaca-isms ” of their own: yaca y aller (let’s go). Daniele came to the United States & opened Le Yaca in Williamsburg.Daniel Abid bought le Yaca in 2001. Daniel worked and trained in such prestigious places as “Le Pre Catelan” and “Lenotre” in Paris; “L’Amandier” and “Roger Verge" and to top it all off “Alain Ducasse.”

Our third time at Le Yaca since we moved from NY . The food is consistently delicious. It is well prepared and the presentation is just lovely. In addition to the food, the service is wonderful. Our servers have been professional, but warm and friendly. It's our favorite place for a special meal.

I took my wife there for her birthday and the experience was excellent. The food was amazing and was highlighted by the very attentive and expert service of Breeanne(sp?). Her smile and perfect level of attention helped make the evening wonderful.

Fantastic food, excellent service, not pricy, an truly awesome French restaurant. We love both in Virginia Beach and Williamsburg. I already recommended many of my friends to this restaurant and all were very happy.

Bar was closed, so we couldn't meet our friends early. The room we sat in was too cold. Steak was overcooked and the steak sauce was not good. Did not like the salad or the potatoes. WIne was ok, however, overpriced. Our friend felt violated as the server rubbed across her breast while placing the dessert menu. Overall poor experience and will not go back.

This was our first time to this restaurant and going there was based in large part by the reviews. The restaurant is very pretty, the food was good (albeit a bit pricey), good selections, good wine. What wasn't the best was the service. We did the 3 course meal and the souffle was very good. While he was very friendly, the service was very slow. He would come to the table to see if we needed anything and didn't remove any empty plates. But I would be willing to try it again...hopefully with a different server. One other note, for a restaurant like this (fine dining), they should have a coat check...it was very awkward finding a place to lay our coats at the table. I think they might have had one...but no one offered to take coats and most around us also had coats thrown over their chairs.

We have been reasonably regular customers for over eleven years. Le Yaca is consistently excellent in all things a good restaurant should be. The presentation of the meals, the standard of the food, the service and the ambiance of the rooms are all outstanding.

What a delight to be hosted with polished service, excellent cuisine, welcoming ambiance, a warm fire in the entrance, and well paced serving of our multi-course new year's eve dinner. Professional yet welcoming, gracious yet unpretentious, with a full bar and excellent wine list, Le Yaca fulfilled every expectation for a memorable evening. Fully worth the investment in this fine culinary experience. Our family are mostly French-speaking, so it was an extra treat to converse in both languages and share anecdotal experiences. We will return!

$110 per plate for New Year’s Eve dinner deserves great service and food quality. We waited 30 Min for our table even though I had a reservation. Then we waited 15 Min for our waitress to show up. No Champaign or coffee included. For the price, we didn’t get the value. I’ll go to fat canary for that price because I’ll get the service.

We had not been to Le Yaca for awhile but the restaurant did not disappoint! It was New Years Eve and the restaurant was crowded, but the staff and owner were very attentive. The baked oysters were a special treat, and were delicious!

The experience from the appetizer through dessert was wonderful! Even though it was very busy, we did not feel rushed. A true gem in Williamsburg.

We have eaten at Le Yaca for years and for the past few years we have made it a staple
for an early New Year's Eve Dinner (6 PM). Always have experienced great food and great service. This year the service did not match up to past visits. Our salads and appetizers were flipped. Our white wine was left on the table and not in a chilled bucket or stone chiller. It wasn't as attentive as the past. Food was great!

Wonderful New Years Eve with our college kids home! We had a delightful meal with the family on 31 December 2017. The food was the best we have had in years from a restaurant. Wine was a great choice from the Willamette Valley. Accomodated our son who has tree nut allergies at the last moment. Would love to be here every year for New Years Eve. We left a very notable tip to the staff because they went above and beyond. Thank you for such a memorable evening.

Beautiful restaurant! We were there to celebrate an anniversary. Our opinion was colored by the fact that although we were greeted warmly, after we got our drinks it was 20 min. plus before our waiter returned to take our orders and bring bread. Food did come promptly and was excellent. We both had filets, one steak au poivre and the other with blue cheese. Soup or salad choice is included with the entree so we felt prices were quite reasonable. Bread with butter was outstanding! We received a complimentary glass of pink bubbly with passion fruit sorbet for the occasion. That was a special touch!

One of the better French restaurants anywhere, let alone in Williamsburg (and that's not said as a put-down as there are several very fine restaurants there). This is one of those places where you can spend quite a bit and leave feeling that you got more than your money's worth - superb cooking, good selection of drinks, outstanding service, warm ambience. Actually if you are budget-conscious you could share the prix-fixe meal for a small upcharge and find yourselves very satisfied.

Food was delicious and service was perfect. During the holiday season here in Williamsburg VA, there are many tourists and family visitors enjoying the town where we live. Le Yaca manages to be just as good when the restaurant is filled to the brim as they are when their guests are mostly just a bunch of locals. We will continue to go there often.

We had friends visiting from New Zealand, and brought them here for a relaxed lunch. We were early, but we were offered a choice of tables and were seated immediately. The waitress was very attentive and the food was exceptional. The fixed price menu which offers a variety of dishes for three courses, is very good value.

Le Yaca made our anniverary a truly special occasion. We were seated in a small, quiet, subllely decarated room. The food was perfectly prepared and delicious. Our server, who knew of our anniversary, was warm and an enjoyable (not intrusive) participant in our celebration. If I could rate higher than five, our experience at Le Yaca was a ten.

We had a reservation, arrived a few minutes early and were left standing at the front for 10 minutes while the hostesses at the front first whispered to each other for several minutes and then told us we would have to wait, before finally leading us past numerous empty tables to a table in the back room in the corner. It was very drafty there and we were forced to keep our coats on. Menus were left but no mention of our server and no drink menu. Several servers came and went from the room but no one acknowledged us until someone finally came back after 20 minutes and noticed we had no bread, no water and no drinks. She approached us and asked if we had been waited on. When she learned we had not, she was very apologetic, took our drink order and comped the first drinks. She then told one of the servers who had been ignoring us to take our order which he did, but he kept placing the blame for our wait on the hostesses out front. The best part of our dinner was the creamy leek soup. The halibut was nothing special and the rack of lamb ordered was substituted with lamb loin. The beef and lobster was the best of the three entrees ordered.
We might have been understanding if the restaurant were busy, but this was definitely not the case. We have eaten here several times recently but this poor service and inconsistent food will have us reconsidering eating here in the future.
