About Le Yaca

Le Yaca began in a tiny, country village(Courchevel)in the French Alps in 1964.Daniele Bourderau & Gerard decided that it would be fun to open a small restaurant. When friends learned of their plans they told the hopeful restaurateurs that they were crazy to think that people would drive 8 kilometers on a winding, icy road for dinner.Daniele and Gerard hesitated for 3 months and then decided: “yaca le faire,” a contraction of the French phrase “ il n’y a qu’a le faire” which basically means “let’s do it.” They called the restaurant Le Yaca as a gag. But the name caught on with customers, who were amused by the pun and contributed to the restaurant’s lore by inventing “yaca-isms ” of their own: yaca y aller (let’s go). Daniele came to the United States & opened Le Yaca in Williamsburg.Daniel Abid bought le Yaca in 2001. Daniel worked and trained in such prestigious places as “Le Pre Catelan” and “Lenotre” in Paris; “L’Amandier” and “Roger Verge" and to top it all off “Alain Ducasse.”

Excellent service and delicious food. There were seven of us and we were all pleased with our meals. The onion soup was as delicious as it always is. I highly recommend the carrot curry soup. The shrimp and scallop over orzo dish was outstanding. Desserts were also well received. The Charlotte Citron was the perfect finish to my heavier main course.

The menu offers a nice variety of items. The problem is with the lighting. It was so dark I could not read the menu. Nor could I see the food once it was brought to the table. The person who brought the food to the table overwhelmed us with her perfume which lingered after she left making the dining experience less than enjoyable. I ordered the fish of the day wish arrived barely warm, the vegetables were cold. Our service person did not return to ask if anything was wrong, by the time they did return it seemed to late to say anything.
This was not our first visit to Le Yaca but our other visits were at lunch or brunch so we did not know that we eating in the dark nor did we know that the service would be not be the same. Our other visits the attention to detail was always excellent! We will go back but not for dinner.

I LOVE your food and your restaurant! Will definitely come back! I've always enjoyed my food when I've come. However, this past time the halibut special was not to my liking (or my mom's, who ordered the same) & seemed over cooked. I would not order that again. The bread, salad & dessert were amazing as always.

Le Yaca has been one of my favorite restaurants ANYWHERE for about 33 years. I hadn't been there for several years, and my wife and I decided to drive 250 miles to get there for my birthday. The restaurant moved to a new location about three years ago, and it's a beautiful atmosphere ... quiet, nice lighting, and several separate rooms ... I think there is a patio for outdoor dining, as well. A couple of the staff were French-speaking, and it was nice to converse with them and pretend I was back in France for a few moments. I decided to reprise the first dinner I had there in 1984 -- a prix fixe with onion soup, lamb, and marquis au chocolat. They even accommodated my request to serve the dessert with the same two sauces -- creme anglaise and framboise. This was a wonderful evening for us and we've decided to make the trip every year for my birthday. I highly recommend Le Yaca; it's been a consistently-excellent dining experience for many, many years. (Although my lamb initially arrived overcooked, it was replaced in less than 10 minutes and the owner personally came out to apologize later and spent several minutes reminiscing with me about the history of the restaurant. I didn't view this as a negative at all, but rather a confirmation of Le Yaca's quality.)

We visit Williamsburg twice a year and are always looking for good restaurants. We found Le Yaca on Open Table and are very glad we did! It has become our favorite, must-go-to restaurant in Williamsburg because of it’s lovely ambiance, great food and excellent service at very reasonable prices for the area. Their 3-course dinners at $37 and $43 PP are a good value compared to the comparable offerings at other area restaurants and the service is friendly and attentive. Highly recommend Le Yaca!

Our party of 8 was seated at a large round table in one of the dining rooms. It was quite a noisy room due to a very loud group at another table -- so this made it difficult to hear our guests at times. Also, when we ate in the same room a year ago, it had much better ambience with a fire lit in the fireplace and some other warm touches.
Everyone in our party seemed to enjoy the choices that had been made for their dinners, including the scallops and a delightful veal dish. My one friend said that she was very full and asked the waiter if he could bring her a dessert-to-go. He said "sure," but when the desserts were served, mine also was "to-go." This was corrected as soon as I brought it to the waiter's attention.
So -- I can't say that I was as pleased with our time at Le Yaca as I was a year ago, but all in all, it was a pleasant evening with friends.

We have been fans of Le Yaca for many years, always enjoying delicious food, well-prepared and well-served. Something has changed. The food was still tasty but service had declined severely. Meals were not served to the correct diners -- obviously, easily remedied but not expected at a fine dining establishment. At a high end restaurant empty plates should not be removed from the table until all diners have finished. Despite our request not to remove the used plates before I finished, they were taken. We were entertaining friends, hoping to surprise them with a delightful meal such as we all have enjoyed in Paris; we were disappointed and apologized to them, embarrassed. As we were leaving I asked to speak to the manager; the receptionist said the manager was not available so I said I would write my concerns. The manager suddenly appeared ( not available?) so I expressed my disappointment. He was courteous and apologized but stated no plans for change. We probably won't go back. How sad to have had one of our favorite restaurants so changed.

Beautiful interior. Fast efficient service. Our server,Gail, was attentive and knowledgable about the menu. The lemon drop martini was superb and we thanked the bartender. I had the scalllops and my husband had the rockfish special. We ate every bite. I would highly recommend Le Yaca as a destination to explore for fine dining in Williamsburg!

We visit Williamsburg once a year and always dine one night of our vacation at Le Yaca. It is one of our favorite restaurants in Williamsburg. The ambience, food, service all were excellent, however, my entrée (duck) had a delicious flavor but was not as good as previous dinners there. The flavors of the meal were wonderful but the duck was on the tough side. If their butternut squash soup is available, I highly recommend it, absolutely wonderful.

Not sure where to go with this one. This is a classical fine dining restaurant with appropriate ambiance and very good food. It is not exceptional given today's fine dining standards in the context of farm to table ingredients, preparation and service. This was an anniversary dinner and the reservation mentioned that, but the restaurant did not acknowledge it (We were actually given a small, cramped table originally and asked to be relocated, which we were). The waiter was adequate but not exceptional. (Perhaps it was luck of the draw). It seemed as though he was merely going through the motions rather than interested in providing the level of service commensurate with the reputation of the restaurant. I would recommend the restaurant but encourage folks to look at other comparable establishments in the Williamsburg area.

I dined at Le Yaca for many years at the original location close to Kingsmill. I live in Richmond and often drive the 50’ish miles to Williamsburg for various conferences and Colonial Williamsburg events. This was my first time at the new location and the experience was as spectacular as ever. My fiancée and I enjoyed a sumptuous meal with great wine at a cozy corner table in one of their several rooms. The evening was further enhanced by tasteful Christmas decor adorning the restaurant and our having attended the Grand Illumination on a seasonally cool December night. I would certainly recommend a meal at Le Yaca whenever the opportunity might arise.

Great restaurant and great food; however, the front dining room was cold on 12/3/17. The amount of windows and solid tile floor contribute to making the space colder than the rest of the restauarant.
