Le Virtu is back! The food has gone up and down over the years, and it's now on the upswing. Their outdoor seating is nicely done. Far more comfortable and protected than that of most restaurants.
The food was incredible!!! The service was great! The ambiance perfect!
LeVirtu is a must try for foodies and anyone who appreciates real Italian cooking. Even though we arrived before the restaurant opened, our server sat us and got us a cocktail. Do not miss the Arancini, Scripelle, and the amazing chocolate cake with orange-chili glaze! And pray the lollipop lamb chops are on the menu when you go! Outside seating was inviting and except for a few honking horns, traffic on street was not intrusive. Inside dining is pretty & cozy. This was our first time, and will not be the last.
Excellent tasty Italian cuisine the wine list is outstanding and The wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable
The vanilla gelati is the best I've had. Everything was wonderful. Thank you!
We have been coming here a long time and are impressed by the consistent high quality of the food and wine. The wine list is smaller than in the past, but well chosen and a good value. The food is interesting and well executed. The tocechetti pasta was one of the best pasta dishes we have had. The atmosphere and service are warm, friendly and inviting. Always a nice choice.
everything we ordered was excellent including the cocktails. this place never fails to deliver
Everything we ate had a wonderful balance of flavors. We shared the maccheroni alla mugnaia for an appetizer and it was delicious. For dinner my husband enjoyed the pork with apples and pumpkin puree and I had the spezzatino di pesce. Our server was excellent. We love to cook at home and enjoy a restaurant experience that we know we couldn't duplicate. Every course was perfect. The red wine could have been a few degrees cooler. Close to Wells Fargo Center.
Amazing!!! Truly special, and especially memorable!!!
Beautiful garden setting with absolutely delicious Italian food. Pastas, all delicately made fresh soo delicate. Complimentary foccacia + oil light lyummy.. All the sauces were delicious. octopus special appetizer was tender + Chef was kind enough to change the side order for me. Fishes fresh, Pork tasty with wonderful sauces. waiter was fab + wait staff was excellent. Great Wine selections, all at Fair pricing.. We were so pleasantly filled, we did not experience desserts.. but they sounded beautiful. Host/owner / was kind + checked in on our experience!
We will return + recommend.
The food was excellent. The mosquitoes, not so much.
Food is delicious.
We have eaten at Le Virtu a number of times but this one was the best. The outdoor garden was as lovely an oasis as ever. We ordered a number of starters to share, which afforded lots of different tastes for everyone. We all had pasta courses, each one excellent. And we splurged on desserts: the chocolate mousse was deeply rich and the Gentiana cake with bay leaf sorbet was refreshing, not too sweet and intriguingly flavored. It was a pleasure to be able to introduce a visiting friend to this gem of a restaurant.
Fabulous food and service! It is excellent here every time we go. The patio was lovely, and the heat lamps kept us warm even on a chilly evening.
From the moment we walked in till we walked out….amazing. We were greeted and asked for proof of our vaccination (which I love). We were seated quickly and near the kitchen so we can watch the action. The octopus appetizer was mouth watering, the special burrata app was delic. We had the server surprise us with him choosing our pasta dish because we couldn’t decide. He picked what would have been my first choice the tagliatelle with mushrooms. Then we had the special entree. So much food we didn’t save room for dessert but man did they look good as they passed us!!!!! Highly recommend and can’t wait to go back!!!
We had dinner here while visiting from NYC and will make this a stop on every visit! Excellent, friendly table service and gorgeous Abruzzese food. Authentic preparations, every dish perfectly balanced and simple but flavorful. Even “creamier” dishes weren’t heavy, we left feeling great.
Spacious outdoor area with nice string lights and comfortable space between tables. All servers were masked. Delighted to discover they had gluten free pasta available though it wasn’t listed on menu—it was cooked to perfection, which is a feat!
Our server/runner/busser took excellent care of our table and kitchen timing was on point.
Highly recommended for a delicious dinner! You can’t go wrong with this menu, ambiance, and quality of service.
There are a lot of great places to eat in South Philly. This was a consistently “meh” experience-hostess and bus staff were super friendly and polite. Waitstaff and overall food experience was solidly mediocre. The outside patio is definitely one of the better ones in the area-large, spacious, lots of plants/lights to make you forget you’re sitting in a vacant lot. There are other places to get better quality dishes for a better value. Will probably pass on a revisit.
Our third visit. Decadent. The appetizers included a warm burrata (never had it warm before) in a San Marzano dipping gravy, the arancini balls (4), and the arugula and pear salad. The homemade pastas are a must. Don't go to Le Virtu and skip the pasta. The specials this night included the porketta and also the branzino - we ordered both at our four (4) top. Food was simply sublime. The wine list is short but thoughtful and priced fairly. We sat outside and the heaters were on - which made for a perfect al fresco dining experience.
Our favorite place on the Avenue ❤️❤️
This is my go to place for a nice dinner. Not sure if they changed chefs. The food was good but not exceptional like I have experienced in the past.
Great food and service.
Family visit from
North Carolina. We have been there before and always look forward to returning. Great wine selection.
Food was excellent, service was great. Beautiful outdoor seating.
Good food and service. Bill was a whopper.
Absolutely wonderful authentic Italian cuisine. Staff from host to server to food runner to bartender are top notch, caring, and bring great suggestions to you. Extra stars for unique dish of sausage stuffed olives, hand made pastas, and great affordable wine lists. Extra extra stars for protecting staff and guests by requiring proof of vaccination for indoor dining and masks.
Amazing food. Great service. Never disappoints.
Jill and I had a wondrous 4th anniversary date afternoon. We started off with some octopus, and it was delicious and melt-in-your-mouth. Secondly, we had some great pasta dishes: Jill had a delicious sausage, saffron and mushroom taccozelle, and I had some gnocchi with stracciatella and walnuts. For dessert, we split a Lu Parrozz’.
Staff who brought water and bread seemed annoyed that we asked for more bread.
He then asked , “well how many pieces do you want “ and this was awkward for us. We’ve never been asked that question (quantity) while dining.
Water bottle empty and we had to ask for more.
Cheese tray was very disappointing. There were small portions of cheese and small spoons that had less than a teaspoon of jam and other spreads.
The apple portion was minuscule (1/4 apple).
The cheese try had no crackers, breadsticks or bread to enjoy the cheese.
Waitress was a bit hyper and seemed hurried.
The ambiance was not relaxing.
We were grateful to have had the opportunity to dine here, as there rarely are reservations on a Saturday night. However, we left feeling underwhelmed.
Food is great. The staff is so accommodating/wonderful. Their outdoor garden and patio is lovely. Excellent wine list!
Can't wait to go back!! Nice outdoor seating, excellent service, and delicious food.
Great service and food in a classic atmosphere. I’ll be back again.
Excellent wine, pasta and pistachio gelato! Great service and atmosphere. A bit pricey but I like it they offer carafes of wine for those of us who have to budget
Lovely outdoor dining space. Attentive but not intrusive servers. Delicious entrees and delightful tastes in desserts. Enjoyed every minute and every bite!
We had a terrific meal in a beautiful space.
Be sure to keep your dining experience to 90 minutes. Glad we didn't order dessert!
Our experience would have been 100% better if we had a different server. Absolutely terrible! He was very short with us, seemed agitated when we asked for the basics, and we still didn't get them, seemed like he was avoiding our table purposely. We actually received better service from the bussers-Go figure. Not interested in returning to this restaurant.
I used to bring customers and co-workers here pre-pandemic because it was a local favorite of mine and always reliable.
I hadn't been back since the pandemic lock down so it had been a while . A co-worker was in town and I brought her here for dinner and told her how great the food and service was and I was excited to be going back.
We sat outside and there were just a few other tables. The server came promptly came to our table and went over specials, etc.
The table runner brought the app but we weren't brought bread (no big deal.) I asked for bread and when she returned she promptly put the tiniest square of the house made bread and the thinnest half slice of Italian bread I have ever seen in my life on my appetizer in front of me and gave the same to my guest. No olive oil. I thought it was odd especially since they used to give a basket of bread. Maybe they were super busy inside and they did have two very large parties set up in the yard so maybe they were saving the bread for them?
Server returned and I asked for more bread and told him what we had received. He laughed and promptly brought us a basket of bread with a side of olive oil. Great!
Food runner brought entrees out and quickly ran: My pasta was piping hot, smelled wonderful. No offer of cheese at all. My co-workers entree (crepes) was cold. She had taken 2 bites when I managed again to get the runner after several attempts at catching her eye.
She finally came over and told her about the cold dish. She took it back. When she brought it back 5-7 minutes later, it was the same exact crepes including the one that had 2 bites taken out. They didn't even replace the one crepe instead it just got reheated. Very surprised at that move.
I went inside to get the check. The inside was mostly empty.
The server did take the crepes off the check; happy about that.
Maybe it was just an off night? I hope they get the kinks out that the pandemic caused. I will go back eventually.
Consistently excellent food and service. The outside area is beautiful!
Always top-quality food and service, and the menu has not appreciably diminished as so many others have.
Love this restaurant! By far, it is our favorite place in the city.
