Le Virtu Cucina Abruzzese in Philadelphia is bringing the culinary tradition and philosophy of Abruzzo to the surrounding community. Abruzzo is Italys most unspoiled area with bold and unpretentious cuisine created by the local fishers and farmers and Le Virtu is recreating those delicacies with locally sourced meat and produce with rare artisanal ingredients being imported straight from Abruzzo.
A unique menu that pulls from sea and mountain sources provides savory combinations that will not disappoint. The pasta at Le Virtu is handmade in house and the meat is slow cooked to perfection. For example, the maccheroni alla mugnaia is a hand pulled single strand of pasta tossed in garlic and extra virgin olive oil with hot pepper and pecorino.

A very nice dinner with excellent service and food. I highly recommend this place as I believe it is the best Italian in Philly.
Never had anything I disliked here.
We had dinner with out of town guests. Everybody enjoyed the food and the ambiance. We had an early dinner so the restaurant was nearly empty, but the scene was fun and the service was very good.
Always terrific! Keep up the great job! Great Bar too
The food was excellent, and our server was able to suggest some superb wine pairings for everything we ordered!
Some of the best food in the city. The service is attentive and not overbearing. Sitting on the patio on a comfortable night is the best.
Try any of the homemade pasta dishes for a treat to your taste buds.
Fabulous food and wine. Lovely outdoor seating. Wonderful service. Bring quarters for parking which is easy early on. I do believe they also have valet parking but I'm not sure - so do call and ask.
Awesome place. Sat outside, the food, service and atmosphere was amazing. Perfect place for a date.
Very good food. Nice cocktails. Service was a bit slow but the waiter was very friendly. West outside. Some of interior seating is a little lacking for a restaurant with such a nice reputation.
It was a lovely evening, so we chose to sit outside in the courtyard adjacent to the restaurant’s building. Everything about the evening was perfect—the menu, our particular food choices, the lack of ear-splitting noise, and the terrific service. No wonder we go to Le Virtù at least a few times every year and recommend it to friends and family.
Outstanding restaurant! Excellent food, brilliant wait staff.
Excellent! My only complaint is that I waited so long to get there! The service was terrific, the wine choices were great, and we enjoyed every bit of food we received. The pastas were delicious and so fresh. We highly recommend and cannot wait to go back.
Great place close to stadiums. Food was great service was enjoyable
We sat in a table outside in the beautiful garden area on a perfect evening. Service was top notch and we really enjoyed our dinner. Food was delicious! One of the best dining experiences we’ve had in Philly.
One of my favorites! Food never disappoints. Ate outside. Love ve, love !
Our second time and just as great as our first visit.
The pasta dishes were great but the appetizers were average. The octopus salad was overly spicy and overshadowed all other flavors of the salad. We were unfortunately at a table with a lot of flies circling and one of them fell into a beer. Server was quick to replace but overall the place is overrated.
Outstanding, to-die-for Italian food. I'm still dreaming about my maccheroni with lamb ragu and the desserts. The orange almond cake is a moist explosion of orange robed in dark chocolate. Full of flavor, but not cloyingly sweet. Everything moves out of the kitchen surprisingly quickly. One problem -- the only issue that kept me from giving La Virtu five stars across the board: Our waiter had offensive body odor. He was a friendly, attentive, otherwise professional guy, but he reeked from as far as 20 feet away. A restaurant as good as La Virtu shouldn't hire waiters who smell as if they're decomposing. Send the poor guy home for a shower and a shot of Right Guard before turning him loose on the clientele. That aside, a wonderful restaurant.
A birthday dinner to celebrate my sister’s birthday. Exquisite food and great service in Philly’s finest outdoor dining space. Incredible!
This was our first time to this restaurant.
Every plate and drink that was put in front of us was exquisitely executed. We had perfectly made cocktails and a beautiful wine from Sardinia. The staff was great. They paid attention to details. They tuned into the energy at our table and adjusted their pace and service accordingly.
I wish I had asked that the three different plates of pasta the table shared would have come out one at a time. This would have made it a little easier for the table to slow down and collectively enjoy and comment on the presentation and flavors unique to each dish.
At the end of our meal we enjoyed a house made limoncello. Bar none - this home recipe was better than some of the house recipes I've enjoyed in Florence, Rome, Milan and Bari.
Well done! We can't wait to come back for more.
Wife & I shared salad special, pasta special, and roasted lamb. All were plated for both of us. The fettuccini was home made and like velvet. The lamb tender and delicious. Will definitely return soon.
This restaurant is unique
The food is great they make almost all the items like their own pasta noodles, etc
Their mushroom sauce is superb
The staff are very personable and professional
The owners go the extra mile to assure everything is good
The ambiance is not fancy but who cares the rest is top notch
Highly recommend it
We are from Michigan
We were very worried based on many bad Yelp reviews for bad service. It was our anniversary and last year we were in the Montelpulciano di Abbruzzo region for our anniversary so we decided to come here anyway to see for ourselves. We are so glad we did. The food, service and ambiance was fabulous and we are so glad we came. This is one of the best restaurant experiences we have ever had in Philly.
Excellent food. The pastas were exquisite, and the tap wine was surprisingly good, too. Prompt, friendly service. Atmosphere felt a little off and the interiors of the restaurant could use an upgrade, but the overall experience was good. And again, great pasta.
Flys everywhere. I had to kill a dozen myself by using their postcards. The food was just ok, the trout was a cheap cut and bland as can be, the meatballs were tiny and dry and WAY overpriced. Absolutely nothing special. And not worth the prices. Beers were served half full inclusive head. Service was sparse and could not really be bothered. No had to leave the table multiple times to wash fly guts off of my hands because they said they couldn’t do anything about it.
Every dish was fresh and well seasoned. Excellent fresh pasta; I especially liked the pasta with lamb ragu. Attentive service. Good wine and cocktail selection.
First course (lamb skewers) was a disappointment. After asking the waiter if this was a good choice, because we were splitting one first course, skewers arrived with very small pieces of fatty lamb, with negligible seasoning. Might have been a good choice if you were having a selection of several first courses, but not alone. Pasta courses were fine but nothing special. On a hot evening, you looked out on to the patio through a fogged up window. Service, other than the poor advice on the lamb skewers was adequate, though not outstanding.
We went on a Monday evening to celebrate our first anniversary. This was our first visit. We were seated outside (at our request) but in the garden near the gorgeous mural. We loved the setting!
Everything about the dinner was superb. The waitstaff were all super professional and friendly. The fresh pasta was to-die-for and the main courses (fish for my husband, yummy vegetarian crapes for me) were amazing. My husband enjoyed his cocktail, which was generous and tasted like it contained alcohol. We also found a great red wine (from Abruzzo, Italy of course:)
We will be back!
5 of us had the Sunday Supper dinner- a starter, an entree, and a glass of wine/ beer- that way we were able to taste each other's choices, from octopus to lamb skewers to insalata to cheese- all delicious. Our main dishes and wine were also wonderful. Good service and friendly people. This was our 2nd visit, and we will return!
Great food and service ... authentic food
Outdoor seating area is beautiful
This was such a wonderful place. We were in Philly for a night for my birthday and I had found this place online and thought I would give it a go. It was the perfect celebration place. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and suggested perfect wines. I highly recommend it.
Wonderful food, outstanding service. We haven't met a server we didn't love here. Our favorite Italian place, from the lamb skewers, to the single strand pasta, pasta with lobster, and more. The owners care about their ingredients, and their people. We also like that they have a large outdoor space. Highly recommended.
Wonderful food and service !
Delicious food in a great atmosphere. We enjoyed dining in their outdoor area.
One of my go to places on Passayunk Ave. Easily some of the best pasta and the flavor combination are just right. Service is also very good, and on this occasion they were accommodating of a late-night table, not trying to rush us out, which is always appreciated.
Excellent pastas, meat, and fish. Nicely curated wine selections. Great selection of Amari.
This is our daughter - in law’s favorite restaurant. She lives in LA and looks forward to dining @ Ke Virtu on her visits.
Great setting. Tremendous food. So comfortable. Nice value.
One of the worst dining experiences I have ever had in Philadelphia, and I have lived here in the area for many years. With so many good restaurants in the immediate area, the owner of this establishment should be ashamed of himself. It is both disrespectful to the Italian Heritage entrenched in this area and the tradition of the best restaurants in the city being in the Passayunk area. Overall, the food was ok but the service was perhaps the worst we have ever encountered ranging from Michelin star restaurants on the west coast to basic pizza parlors at the jersey shore. We were seated and saw our waiter just twice during the course of the evening, once to take our order and once to drop the bill off. We had to ask a bus boy to put a wine order in at the bar for us, our waiter walked by our table over a dozen times never once asking if we would like to purchase a drink or how we liked our food. In fact, our server had a hard time humbling through the 2 specials that were offered that evening. It is unfathomable that anyone could invest money into an establishment in this area with complete ignorance pertaining to training a waitstaff. The reputation of Francis Cretarola and Cathy Lee being complete clowns in the industry is unfortunately apparent in the service at this establishment. Do yourself a favor and walk right by this restaurant and visit any other local establishment in the area. Most other places usually have well trained staff, and will care about their customers.
Very cozy place. Amazing food and service. The server's recommendations were great. Only "problem" is you want to order everything.
