Le Virtu Cucina Abruzzese in Philadelphia is bringing the culinary tradition and philosophy of Abruzzo to the surrounding community. Abruzzo is Italys most unspoiled area with bold and unpretentious cuisine created by the local fishers and farmers and Le Virtu is recreating those delicacies with locally sourced meat and produce with rare artisanal ingredients being imported straight from Abruzzo.

A unique menu that pulls from sea and mountain sources provides savory combinations that will not disappoint. The pasta at Le Virtu is handmade in house and the meat is slow cooked to perfection. For example, the maccheroni alla mugnaia is a hand pulled single strand of pasta tossed in garlic and extra virgin olive oil with hot pepper and pecorino.

First night of outdoor dining for the season. A beautiful evening with delicious food, great wine, live accordion/clarinet music, and a soft breeze. Friday night doesn’t get any better.

I really enjoy this restaurant, it is a hybrid BYOB so you can order a cocktail, wine or beer from them or bring your own. They specialize in authentic cuisine from Puglia and Abruzzo so it isn't your S.Philly red-gravy Italian ( which I love as well) but an artisanal food experience with homemade pastas and regional specialties made with high quality ingredients. We really enjoyed the mussels and calamari with cannelloni beans, the taccozzelle pasta with veal ragu and the gnocchetti with mushrooms. The wine list is very regional but limited so if you only drink Super Tuscans or Barolos, for instance, you should bring them. service was very good, friendly and super knowledgeable. It's really good food in a casual friendly atmosphere. This was consistent with several previous experiences.

We've longed to go to Le Virtu and finally made a reservation. The dinner was excellent and the wait staff was very attentive. We both enjoyed the fact that entrees aren't brought out before the appetizers are finished. Since we're both vegetarian it's nice to see a moderately priced restaurant have something for everyone.

All of the dishes were quite good, lamb skewers, lobster spaghetti, braised lamb for me, companions enjoyed their meals as well. Small but superb wine list, amazingly knowledgeable waitress that helped us through the unfamiliar spots on the menu. Second time there, and probably will be back (we're from Boston). A very good to great restaurant. A lovely evening.

If you ever find yourself in Philadelphia(the city of brotherly love and at least 1000 Italian restaurants), head over to Le Virtu on East Passyunk. Beautiful decor, excellent service from Gabe, and best of all, one of the most delicious Italian meals we’ve ever had. From first course to dessert, the flavors were outstanding and the portions did not disappoint nor overwhelm. An Easter Sunday dinner to remember. Thanks to our friend Mike Pignatauro for sharing his family’s favorite place with us...now it’s ours too.😇

No complaints! Chef’s Sunday-Monday special ($35) was an incredible deal, allowing our table to try a variety of dishes without feeling gluttonous. Everything was absolutely delicious — charcuterie, bread, gnocchi, lamb, coffee and biscotti. Top notch.

Wonderful meal at Le Virtù. We live in the neighborhood but for years have limited our trips to Le Virtù because of the salt content of the food— that was not a concern this trip! We were pleasantly surprised. The prawns and lamb dishes we had were delicious. The service was attentive and non-intrusive.

This lovely Italian restaurant, in the heart of South Philly, is an easy and fast drive from the western suburbs of Philadelphia. The salad was incredibly fresh with a vinaigrette dressing that made the flavors pop. The bread was deliciously artisan and homemade. The pork ravioli was light and flavorful. The chocolate cake and gelato were incredible. We hope to return on a warm spring or summer day when we can sit outside on the gated patio.

I was so happy to dine here. The food was great, the staff was friendly, it is comfortable, and we were promptly seated. I've been to Abruzzo, and I can say that the Abruzzese food served here is authentic and delicious. LOVE!

Never tasted better pasta in my life. Meaty, al dente, perfect. Asked for a quiet table away from the bar for my birthday - and got it. Wonderful view thru the window of the outdoor mural. Service knowledgable and excellent. We asked our waiter to slow down the courses so we could linger over our dinner, and he did. Appetizers excellent. Entrees excellent. Olive oil chocolate cake perfect.

We went for restaurant week. I’ve been once before and had a lovely time so I wanted to bring my fiancé. I wasn’t impressed with the service at all. Our waiter was unfriendly and short with us. Disappointed overall.

We went on a Tuesday nite during restaurant week. It was quiet and not crowded. Service was impeccable. Loved our food- delicious and a great value for $35 p.p. Also, there’s no corkage fee to bring your own wine on Tuesday nites. I’m sure a “regular” meal would be a lot more expensive. They have a beautiful outdoor courtyard that would be nice to try in Warner weather.

Excellent all around... and that is from a foodie and a chef. The noise level was admittedly high for a Monday night and though I found myself screaming at times across the table, I was also screaming inside with delight at all the great food and the vibes in the place! The Nero d'Avola in our glasses helped too!

We made our first visit here dyuring restaurant week. We knew normal menu was pricey but wanted to try. The food was excellent but the restaurant let us down by the choices. There were four courses: appetizer, pasta, entree and dessert. ($35,). The appetizer choices were from a list of 6 items. (fine), Next were 4 pastas (also fine), But the entree choices were just four, with one being lasagne (a pasta!), a crepe with pork rago (another carb), a branzino and shrimp and clam dish (great but it was only if BOTH wanted it - my partner didn't) and a lamb shank (but with an additional $15 charge). Dessert was good. I know it's restaurant week when a restaurant is busy but offering no protein (except one dish to share or $15 upcharge) was in my opinion not a good way to get customers to return (we probably won't),.
Service was "friendly" but not once were we asked how each(or any) course was. The restaurant was - surprisingly -not full but it could be noisy. To add to this review, the long time chef left a week or two ago and the new chef (From Kensington Quarters) wasn't starting until the day after our visit. So I can't even say what the food will; be.

We have discovered some wonderful Passyunk Avenue Restaurants through trying during Restaurant Week. In our opinion the restaurant chose the wrong options to show off their menu.

The food and the service was very good. Valet parking made it easy in an area that does not have much parking. The wine selection had affordable choices and the cocktails were very good. The noise in the restaurant was not such that you were not able to enjoy your conversation with the others at the table. I would go back again and recommend to others.

Went to LeVirtu for the first time with another couple. Everything was wonderful, the cheese and meat appetizer was one of the largest- we thoroughly enjoyed it.. We all enjoyed our meals and thought their specials were delicious and priced fairly. Great drinks and house wines.

Fantastic Italian food. We did the tasting menu. The octopus app and the burrata app were the best I’ve had. My next course was a veal ragu/mushroom pasta — seriously amazing flavor. My main was the veal shank which was tender and perfect. Our server was AZ who did an excellent job explaining how the dishes were prepared. Manager, Frederick Cratil recommended an amazing wine. All in all it was a great experience. Next time I’m back in Philly, this place is #1 for dinner!

We had a reservation for 2 and on our walk to Le Virtu ran into a good friend who joined us. The restaurant accommodated the change with ease. Salads, pasta entrees, and a tile fish special were all delicious. Nice touch when the kitchen served on two plates one salad my husband and I wanted to share. A special note on the tile fish: I like fish entrees served hot, not tepid, and it was perfectly done and hot. Excellent decaf cappuccinos and deserts. Comfortable noise level and no pushy, idiosyncratic music to interfere with conversation. Big thanks for that. And the red varietal glass of wine-on-tap was the best I've had on tap, fresh and a little complex.

I thought the people in the restaurant were very warm and friendly. The food was fair and contrived! I felt it needed to be simpler. For what it was I thought it was on the expensive side. I don't mind paying for food but the food flavors did not match the cost!
