Le Virtu Cucina Abruzzese in Philadelphia is bringing the culinary tradition and philosophy of Abruzzo to the surrounding community. Abruzzo is Italys most unspoiled area with bold and unpretentious cuisine created by the local fishers and farmers and Le Virtu is recreating those delicacies with locally sourced meat and produce with rare artisanal ingredients being imported straight from Abruzzo.
A unique menu that pulls from sea and mountain sources provides savory combinations that will not disappoint. The pasta at Le Virtu is handmade in house and the meat is slow cooked to perfection. For example, the maccheroni alla mugnaia is a hand pulled single strand of pasta tossed in garlic and extra virgin olive oil with hot pepper and pecorino.

It’s always a great meal at Le Virtue.
I had the most amazing birthday dinner. It was simply devine in every way. The live music was a great addition to an awesome meal.
The chicken entree was spectacular. Delicious! Had an appetizer of beef/ veal meatballs. Excellent.
Great meal and service !!!
Homemade pasta and desserts!
Excellent meal and service.
Table was where people entered and front door opened. Asked to be moved and was told no. Fish and greens salty
Excellent food. Good service. Interesting menu. I will return.
Asked our waiter (Andrew) for recommendations. He was very friendly and helpful. Food was incredibly delicious, owner came over and asked if we liked our meal. I can hardly wait to return!
I took two out-of-town friends there. They loved it! I think seating outside makes for the most wonderful experience at Le Virtu, but weather didn't permit it. Inside was cozy and pleasant enough, and we could hear each other talk. It was a Monday night, and we took advantage of the specials for Sunday and Monday: 3 courses plus a glass of wine for $35. Outstanding! They excluded two expensive cuts of meat among the secondi, but there was plenty to choose from. The pasta is especially good and creative--I had a macaroni with a ground lamb sauce and very long and thick noodles. Delicious! Friends had fish and seafood, which they liked being from Las Vegas. Dessert wasn't part of the deal, but I didn't have room for it anyway! This has become my favorite Philadelphia restaurant, a genuine piece of today's Italy in East Passyunk! I only wish it were easier to find parking.
On the final night of our Philly visit, after dining at some of the "name" restaurants, we visited Le Virtu. In addition to fine food and service, the the quiet atmosphere was conducive to conversation. What a little gem. Every aspect was ideal.
The food was unbelievable!! We definitely enjoyed our meal and we felt so welcomed. Can’t wait to return.
Consistently excellent. The pasta is absolutely craveable.
A lovely dinner at Le Virtu from beginning to end. Excellent service, warm friendly host, pleasant relaxed wait staff...a table seating in the window with a view...obliged my every little and big request. Food was really outstanding and can’t wait to come back to Philadelphia to eat here again. Pure, simple homemade regional Italian food for the soul! Definitely a fantastic meal!
The food was good but not exceptional for the price. Our server was busy with other tables but was very good. The young lady that brought us water and bread was nice but inexperienced and stood by our table waiting to take bread plates while we were still using them. It was awkward for all. While it was good I don’t think I will go back
Food was great! We had the Sunday/Monday supper special (love the wines on tap). Service very friendly and helpful.
Always fantastic. Best Italian in Philly. The tuna puttanesca was phenomenal.
The waiter was very friendly and helpful! We loved his wine suggestions.
The food was delicious and the portions were just right: enough to feel full, but not so much that you’re taking home to-go containers for everything.
We would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for a night out.
The service, food, and place were all top notch. But the food was the best. Both our dishes were great as well as hot. The bread(homemade), and appetizer were delicious as well. DEFINITELY WILL BE RETURNING!!
Was recommended by a friend over a year ago. Wanted to try this place in the summer when the outdoor venue was poppin, but that boat sailed. My niece was flying in for a convention so I saw it as an opportunity to experience it in the early fall. Lucked out and had really nice weather for an early evening dinner. From our waiter, AZ, to the appetizer to the wine recommendations to the amazing Abruzzese dishes, we had the most excellent experience. And the homemade pistachio sorbet was the perfect ending. Thank you Le Virtù! The perfect setting if you love the whole Italy experience. Try it...
All pastas were outstanding but some appetizers underwhelmed (e.g. the lamb skewers)
Great pastas, the zucca was wonderful! Kids ate from the menu and enjoyed everything. So happy I stumbled across this little place. Staff was great too. Awesome deal on Sunday and Monday $35 per person multi course with a glass of wine!
The food was terrible & waiter was rude!!!
While the food was good it was not exceptional especially for the price. The squash appetizer was amazing but the tagliatelle with wild boar sauce was average & very oily. Drinks were very expensive - $15 for a glass of wine & $18 for a Manhattan. The noise level made it impossible to clearly hear the person sitting across from you. And while I don’t mind dinner music the accordion player & clarinetist were WAY too loud for such a small venue. Definitely was not needed. First time here & don’t think I will be going back.
Loved the food and service !
Wonderful anniversary dinner. We had our rehearsal dinner at Le Virtu ten years ago. Our lovely dinner this week reminded us of warmth and beauty of the earlier night. Just perfect.
One of the best Italian dinners we ever enjoyed. What an incredible treasure. The bread was ridiculously fresh and perfectly dense. Meatballs with surprisingly slight heat are award winning. The pastas leave you without words. Visiting from NYC and will be sure to come back ASAP. Five stars.
Our visit at Le Vitru started with a warm welcome by the lovely hostess. We were early and had a drink at the bar and she let us sit down early for our reservation. Our server was highly knowledgeable about the menu and the food was amazing, we shared a pasta special then I had the monk fish and my date had the lamb. All of the dishes were absolutely wonderful. On top of that there was live music. It was so romantic and I can’t wait to go back there.
Absolutely amazing. Had roast pork bruschetta app
Chicken entree and macaroni n lobster. Service was great!!!
The outdoor seating was great for a nice night. The service was well paced and our server was attentive. Good wines. Had an aglianico.
Always excellent representation of classic Abrusese food and great Italian wine. Eating outdoors on a warm September evening made it especially good
Perfect for al fresco dining. Knowledgeable staff.
Food was excellent, and we got to sit outside under the stars on the beautiful patio. Would highly recommend!
We sat out side and enjoyed a perfect meal we will definitely be back
Everything was wonderful
Every course was delicious and our waiter was friendly and inviting.
This place is always amazing. Not once has the food or experience been anything short of outstanding. Could'nt reccommend this place enough!
I thought the food was excellent but it was over priced by at least 20%. I also thought the wine list was lacking. I was under the impression there was a better wine list but I think the reds started at $65 and went up. Not great value. Wine in the US is typically over priced but we were disappointed about this. We had 4 wines by the glass which was over $50. Two pastas, two antipasto, one espresso and split a dessert. Our bill was $144 before a tip. Just not the right value for us given all the competition on that street. We probably will not be back.
This puzzles us. Perhaps you confused us with another restaurant? Our red wines begin at $45. We have no less than 7 red wines that come in at under the price you stated. So, what you say above is simply untrue. We also have 9 wines BTG that cost between 9 and 12 dollars, which would have made the cost for 4 under $50. Perhaps you forgot all this before writing the review? We will gladly provide you with the list if you'd like to check. Thanks!
Really solid E Passayunk Italian. Was a little bit warm inside the restaurant, but otherwise great night. Reasonably priced and very good wines. Homemade pastas excellent. Great spot.
It was a perfect night to dine outside. The pasta was cooked to perfection, and the veal chop was exceptional.....
