Overall we had a nice dinner. However, the french fries that came with the steak et frites were overdone and a little to thick.

I was very disappointed. My boyfriend and I felt their anxiety as they rushed past us every few seconds, this is not what I hoped for at an expensive French restaurant. The waiter acted like a snob and seemed to judge us for buying a $25 bottle of wine like we were being cheap. The waiter knocked the olive oil on the ground it was awkward not peaceful it romantic. Way over priced. I will not ever go back and their plastics menus were off putting.

I have dined at many of the best restaurants in Carmel but this is my favorite. Anton is one of the reasons, he is the best waiter I have ever had. Friendly, courteous and very efficient. The cuisine here is remarkable. This night I had short ribs and they were melt in your mouth delicious . For dessert I ordered Grand Marnier Souflle, which I haven't had in 20 years, the best! Can't wait to go back

I took my parter to Le St Tropez for her birthday dinner. We are both gluten free and that is one of the main reasons I chose this place. Every option on their menu minus one thing could be prepared gluten free. They also had several good desert options. It meant a lot to be able to go somewhere so accommodating for our diet. The wait staff were friendly professional and respectful. The ambience was quiet and intimate. I recommend this place certainly to anyone who is gluten free. And I figure, if their gluten free food is great, then their regular food must be too :)

I try to eat at San Tropez for special occasions. The owners are terrific. The food is lighter French..While the restaurant is not cheap, it is a good value as the food, preparation and service are first rate.

Hostess was very good. Wait staff poorly trained: water not refilled in a timely manner; used silverware dumped onto table when first course dishes removed; one wait staff hovered annoyingly, appeared sullen, as if he couldn't wait to get us out; primary waiter belatedly turned on the charm to assure a decent tip.

Le St Tropez never seizes to amaze with its fabulous ambiance, great selection of delicious food prepared in the way us Lovers of the Provence enjoy.

When the website says "retro french delights", they mean it. From execution to presentation the menu convinces and hits home every time. Great specials enhance the already great options. The wine list also has a good range. Local, California and French wines that have been well selected. Be bold and try something you maybe never even have heard of... whenever I do this, I discover hidden treasures that pair exceptionally with my food.

I love bringing friends as well as family here when they come visit as this is one of the most charming restaurants in Carmel for sure.

Well done St Tropez!!!

PS: Did I mention the Crepes Flambé... what a feast...

it was immediately apparent that something was wrong. There were 4 groups of people crammed in the entry way while wait and bus staff stood idle next to the bar. The host was disheveled, looking like he just rolled out of bed, wearing an old "quicksilver" t-shirt. He confusingly sat people without menus, then came back to the host stand each time to make an extra trip back to each table with the menus. We were likewise seated outside without menus and had to wait a good five minutes before a busboy took pity on us and brought us our menus.

The outdoor patio is a beautiful garden setting with pots of gardenias and nasturtiums hanging off the walls, umbrellas to shade the sun during day and electric heaters to provide warmth for those cold summer foggy nights. The tables are further arranged around a fire pit and each table is provided with warm fleece blankets for those caught off guard by Carmel's fickle coastal temps.

Somebody put a lot of thought and attention into the design of that patio. Sadly, the rest of this operation is sorely lacking in that careful approach.

The "homemade hummus made fresh everyday" was acidic, had a telltale liquid on the surface, and was slightly carbonated. I noticed the table next to me having a recoiling reaction upon tasting it and confirmed they had the same assessment. When I let the server know it had turned, she took it away and brought another saying she tasted both (ick) and that they tasted the same, that they make it daily with nothing but chickpeas, olive oil, and lemon juice; which doesn't account for the carbonated and dis pleasant spiciness, similar to what the table next to us described as fresh salsa that tastes great the first day then a few days later, the container is bulging from outgassing and is acidic and carbonated...oh well.

The "jasmine rice" that came with the salmon was a burnt puck that required a knife to cut, completely inedible - an old stale rice cake. Ambience notwithstanding, we won't return.

In a very busy weekend in Carmel, this restaurant was empty. Only 2 tables occupied. I had lunch here a year ago and was pleased. Given all the empty tables at 8:30 on Saturday night I can only assume something has happened. The food was bland. The Caesar salad was warm and limp.
When I asked for it to be returned what followed was barely an improvement.
Friendly service but they cannot fix what is wrong.

Le St. Tropez was an outstanding dining experience. We went on a weeknight during the off-season (January) and ordered from the prix-fixe menu which was generous at $45. Attentive and professional staff waited on us and we were granted a quiet table. The crudites, consisting of bread, olives, and a sumptuous celery root salad, was excellent. Enjoyed the hummus as well. French onion soup was piping hot, topped with Gruyere cheese, which enhanced the rich dark brown broth that comforted me on this wintry evening. I enjoyed a large steak, cooked to perfection with savory fries. The creme brulee, rich and creamy, made for an outstanding finish. The owner was very gracious and came over to offer us two complimentary glasses of muscat with our dessert which made the evening. We liked Le St. Tropez the first time we came. This second visit only confirms our delight in such a fine restaurant. We will come back and honor Le St. Tropez in future. A gentle word about children. It's best to leave the kiddies home with a babysitter.

Le St. Tropez was our late night, post show stop on Sunday and proved again to be a local gem and treat. The food is always delicious and well prepared and the staff is very patron friendly. We often dine outdoors here for a casual meal but dinner is a great option especially since few places in Carmel offer dining this late. We've had almost everything on the menu and have enjoyed them several times. Sunday's Lentil soup was a treat and the short ribs very tender and well flavored. We particularly enjoyed the Endive salad and wish we had left room for deserts which are always a treat. Ambiance is comfortable and might even be a bit on the romantic side given the French feel to the dining room. Hope you enjoy it too!

It's our fourth time visiting the area and we always put St. Tropes on the list. The staff are efficient and professional. The steak frites and duck confit were amazing. The soufflé for two is a must!

There are so many places in Carmel but this one is really a gem. A bit pricey, but we've been here twice in the last year and it hasn't disappointed.

The only thing I thought was lacking was that my husband had the lobster and pasta and I felt the lobster pieces were a bit skimpy - although my husband said his meal was very good. I had the swordfish and it was a good portion and delicious. The presentation on both dishes was impressive.

If you're there during nice weather, be sure to check out the outdoor dining area - lovely. We'll definitely go back there on our next visit.
