Chef Dennis's next venture was Le Soleil, which gave him the opportunity to reach beyond the boundaries of tradition. His marriage of Vietnamese and French styles presented gourmands a unique contrast of flavors. Stylishly appointed through Annie's eye for beauty and Dennis's flair for cooking , the fine dining experience of Le Soleil quickly spread. It has earned acclaim and recognition from numerous culinary critics, also voted the number one restaurant in 1996 by the San Francisco Focus Magazine. I was born in Singapore. Living in SF, I could not find good Hainanese Chicken Rice until I found Le Soleil. In the SF bay area, it serves the best version, and comes closest to what I grew up with. The chicken is deliciously succulent and silky and the rice is fragrant! The dish is only available on Mondays and Fridays for lunch. Best to call ahead to place an order as there is limited portions. It is also available for dinner on these days by calling and ordering in advance. The lunch portion is smaller and cost less than the dinner meal.
Been to Le Solei numerous times and food and service always good. My elderly parents just love this place and the owner comes by to greet them whenever we go. They have a good variety of Vietnamese dishes with Chinese influence. All dishes are presented and prepared well.
We came in on a Thursday night and the place had few quests. Our guest was familiar with the restaurant and we later learned the family has owned the place since 1993. The decor has changed but food is still as good as our guest remembered it. Where do I start? The coconut soup was extraordinary. The calamari was deliciously unique, the sizzling seafood platter had a variety of seafood and the beef dish was exceptional. I will bring our next out of town visitors here. I will bring our sons here when they visit. This is our new go to restaurant.
This was our first visit. We wanted to eat near Clement Street. Since we love Vietnamese food, we gave Le Soleil a try for lunch. We will definitely return! The food was delicious. The service was friendly and prompt. The price is right. We could tell that it is very popular.....by Noon it was almost full. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Dropped in this quaint restaurant in a lovely neighborhood for a nice cozy Vietnamese dinner.
The two of us had three dishes with two sides. We started with the Duck Spring Roll - duck, cucumber, mint, vermicelli, lettuce, crispies, rice paper in hoisin sauce: is a must to begin a meal. Excellent with a perfect crunch...a favorite of mine and didn't disappoint. Shaken Beef - ribeye with onion, lemon and pepper dipping sauce: a substantial main dish, tender and caramelized; good portion and tasty; Roasted five-spice chicken, cabbage slaw, chili nuoc mam: good flavors, slightly on the dry side; Sides including: Garlic Noodle; Jasmine Rice; and chrysanthemum Tea for 2, which went well with our entrees. We enjoyed this quick, comfort meal. All the dishes came out quickly. Waitress was efficient. It hits the spot and fills our tummies. Will return.
Solid Vietnamese, the Crab was better than Than Long/Crustacean. The sizzling seafood platter was quite good, a little sweet for my likes, it could have been spicier. Dessert was fantastic, but I'm a sucker for fried banana and coconut ice cream. Overall, foodie Vietnamese, and availability on Saturday evening.
During the summer, the restaurants tend not to get too crowded. My friend and I enjoyed the minimal noise level. There were no children, so that helped minimize the noise. I'm guessing once everyone is back from vacation, this restaurant like others will get crowded again.
I introduced a friend to this restaurant and she liked it very much. We also enjoyed the ambience. The dishes were very good, however, a little expensive.
