Le Soleil, a marriage of Vietnamese and French styles with a unique contrast of flavors.
Chef Dennis's next venture was Le Soleil, which gave him the opportunity to reach beyond the boundaries of tradition. His marriage of Vietnamese and French styles presented gourmands a unique contrast of flavors.
Stylishly appointed through Annie's eye for beauty and Dennis's flair for cooking , the fine dining experience of Le Soleil quickly spread. It has earned acclaim and recognition from numerous culinary critics, also voted the number one restaurant in 1996 by the San Francisco Focus Magazine. With many other culinary awards that followed, it was featured by various travel magazines, local and foreign newspapers as one of the "must try" restaurants in San Francisco.
Fabulous food and attentive service. We arrived early so I can't remark on the noisiness (or lack thereof).
Noisy table behind us. Food dishes were not outstanding, but nothing was poor. Our best dish was the seafood clay pot rice, tasted close to a Chinese clay pot dish.
Grossly overpriced menu. The cooking is below average. Waiters are nice, but not very helpful in selecting dishes. Our Laksa $33 main course had overcooked shrimp and calamari but had no flavors, basically tasteless , it was returned (most of it).
Food delicious, juicy, tasty. Service friendly, easy going, nice.
The only reason why I didn’t give 5 stars is because we went there on Valentine’s Day and they were so busy! Still attentive, but experience a slight lag with food and water. On any other day, this restaurant gets 5 stars!
Food was fabulous! Great place to have dinner and actually enjoy eating and talking without shouting.
Outstanding food and service
Awesome location, foods, including the roasted crab and ambience!!!
Great food, attentive service, and a nicely decorated space.
Love this place. Best service and food
Great Vietnamese Cuisine!!! Such a neighborhood gem. If you haven’t been here, you gotta give it a try.
We love coming here with our friends so that we can try all their delicious dishes in one meal…from lollipop chickens to flaming quail to their infamous Dungeness crab garlic noodle. Too bad we only had 2 people last night, but we did good – Beef Carpaccio, Lollipop Chicken, Calamari, Chicken & Shrimp Crepe, Garlic Noodle and “Shaken” Beef. As always, food was delicious and service was great.
Loved the appetizers!
Amazing food. really amazing. the excellence of the food & service far outpace the cost. can't recommend enough.
We showed up for a mid-afternoon lunch. The restaurant was very quiet. Everything went well. The only complaint was that a dish headlined as large shrimp was actually predominantly calamari rings. This was more OK with one of us than with the other. The service was pleasant. We would both come back.
A favorite of mine for dinners, my friend and I enjoyed two delicious lunch specials. The portions are generous and include soup and imperial rolls. The owners and waitress were helpful, patient, and very accommodating.
It is difficult to truly enjoy this very worthy food when it arrives way too quickly and your small dining table is overwhelmed with multiple serving dishes. Awkward and annoying for diners to constantly make room on the table for the wait staff. Felt VERY rushed! Order your dishes one at a time so you can truly savor each unique one!
Great pho, curry vegetables, grilled pork, spring rolls. Homey and fast.
Wonderful flavors, nice presentation, Looking forward to next visit
Food, service, ambiance excellent!!!!
Calamari dish was tasty but where is the calamari? Only tasty fried skins were on this dish. Eggplant dish was plentiful but one can stir fry this dish at home, nothing special...bowl of rice undercooked, cashier apologized sincerely. That was nice.
5 spice chicken leg was fresh and skin crunchy....$18 pricy,
Tofu claypot has two varieties of fresh tofu.
Overall the food was fresh and tasty. Service adequate. I will try it again and order the mango sticky rice and chicken sausage claypot as suggested in one of the reviews.
Worked to make dishes vegan
The food was really good and we felt welcome!
Delicious take on Vietnamese food in a nice setting. House Fried Rice (duck, pineapple) is a must have as is the garlic noodle with either crab or prawns. The sticky rice with mango was prefect - the rice just al dente, soft but got a good chew - and not too sweet overall.
Always good. Great service. Love the soft shell crab appetizer.
Le Soleil has delicious food, don't get me wrong, but when we were there the other night, the service took forever. Our reservation was for 5:30pm and it wasn't until 6:45 that we finally received our final two courses. I had my 3-year old with me, and he was great, but by the end of the meal, we were all ready to go. The restaurant wasn't full when we were there, but I did notice a lot of to-go orders being packaged up, so maybe that's why the kitchen was so busy, but either way, it was a little frustrating to have to wait so long.
I review restaurants all over the city and it is very rare to find a restaurant that has a high level of food quality at such a reasonable price. Highly recommend!
Le soleil is one of our favorite restaurants. Food is always yummy with its generous portions and consistent delicious flavor. The service is thoughtful and detail oriented.
Great food, ambiance and was able to have conversation without a lot of noise!
Le Soleil did not disappoint - au contraire! Had not been there for some years but a friend recently spoke about it so off we went. Food is great.
casual place very good food, enjoyed my claypot with meat-not rushed friendly service
Delicious, inventive food and excellent service! Instead of waiting for Burma Superstar or B- Star, we ventured to Le Soleil and it's become an absolute favorite!
Service was great lunch special the beef was amazing. Their sticky rice mango was amazing! I'd go/recommend this place to frenz!!!@
Food consistently fresh and delicious.
I liked the fact that they had a menu that delineated gluten free and gluten sensitive options
I was born in Singapore. Living in SF, I could not find good Hainanese Chicken Rice until I found Le Soleil. In the SF bay area, it serves the best version, and comes closest to what I grew up with. The chicken is deliciously succulent and silky and the rice is fragrant! The dish is only available on Mondays and Fridays for lunch. Best to call ahead to place an order as there is limited portions. It is also available for dinner on these days by calling and ordering in advance. The lunch portion is smaller and cost less than the dinner meal.
great neighborhood spot / A gem
Great service & delicious meal--particularly the duck spring rolls. We loved it.
Convenient but not interesting. Convenient but not interesting. - Is that 50?
Been to Le Solei numerous times and food and service always good. My elderly parents just love this place and the owner comes by to greet them whenever we go. They have a good variety of Vietnamese dishes with Chinese influence. All dishes are presented and prepared well.
