once again , experience was more than awesome; food excellent, staff very friendly and accomodating--I look forward to coming back
everything was going great and everything was perfect, until..... One of the waiters/hosts came by to check if we were out of bread, instead of asking he "patted" the bread basket.... Seriously? Don't touch my food or anything else on my table without asking me first! He's lucky he didn't do it a second time!
The food was great, and I will definitely go back heaven help this server/host if he even tries to touch my breadbasket again!
Unfortunately Gordon was not there and my vegan meal was not up to the usual standards. Next time before booking, I will make sure that Gordon will be there. My dining partner enjoyed the meal he ordered off the regular menu.
My wife and I have been to Le Rendez-Vous several times now. We both love the food, the service, and the wine selection. This is where we get our French food fix when visiting Tucson. There are two sections to the restaurant, one is a bar/informal dining area; the other is the more formal dining area. The bar area is noisier, but fun, while the dining area is more sedate and quieter. You choose. We've yet to be disappointed here and highly recommend it for an enjoyable evening out.
The wait staff is excellent. Very knowledgeable, friendly, and they know how/when to time their interactions with patrons. The wait staff is such an integral part of the experience and this staff brings their best to the evening.
We celebrated Bastille Day here this week. We arrived a little early. There isn't much space to hang around, the bar area is petite. I recommend arriving on time, instead. Our dinner and the service were excellent despite it being such a busy night. I called ahead to make sure they were making Beef Wellington. It was perfect and sooooo tender. My husband had the veal medallions with apple. He enjoyed his, as well. We even indulged by sharing a chocolate dessert. This is a very special place. Make sure you make reservations. Oh, there was live music. It was too bad that there were several louder large groups that made it hard to enjoy his singing and guitar playing talent. But it was a festive evening, so not the usual romantic evening.
Food and service were impeccable. I go every Bastille Day since the 1980's as well as other times.
The food is always delicious! Service is great, and wait staff is extremely accommodating. Low-keyed elegance and relaxing atmosphere. Charming, nice, and a place to which we will always return.
Dining at Le Rendez-vous is always a special treat. Vanessa is an outstanding waitress taking care of our every need. Gordon continues to outdo himself in preparing delicious food for us to enjoy. For some chefs, this is a problem since I myself am vegan. Quite often when eating out, I am served a rather pitiful selection of vegetables. Everything is quite different at Le Rendez-vous. Gordon prepares beautiful and tasty meals for me. In addition, my dining partner always finds something he can enjoy when ordering off the regular menu. Quite simply, I highly recommend Le Rendez-vous.
I was disappointed that the fish special, fillet of sole, was a bit pricey; not mentioned by the waiter.
Our romantic looking seats sloped and one seemed uneven. It was replaced by a standard chair.
We love going to this restaurant for special dinners and this time was not quite up to par.
The food was great. We were disappointed that the menu was Prix Fixe as we were looking forward to dishes that were not being served that evening. The service was very slow at the beginning. We waited 40 minutes for our salads. After that, however, the entrees came in a timely manner. Overheard the couple sitting near us complain about the slow service also.
This is our favorite romantic escape restaurant in Tucson. If you are into noisy sports bars, please don't come here. The mood is intimate and classically upscale. If you want to dress up or go casual, either will do. The wait staff's timing is impeccable - they understand how to serve and be invisible. Order anything you want, it is all delicious. Sometimes we just go to have mussels with bread and a glass of wine. On Father's Day the menu was a generous and sumptuous Prix Fixe - 2 hours of gourmet entertainment.
We were celebrating our 41st wedding anniversary; we have celebrated our anniversary here several times and have always enjoyed it. A couple at the next table were also celebrating their anniversary; they had only been married for three years, but had dated for many years.
We came to the restaurant with an advance reservation and asked to sit in the main room - we were told we could hang out at the "bar" for 15 - 20 minutes if we wanted to wait - they thought there might be a table then. We chose to sit in the outer room - tiled floors, no tablecloths - very noisy.
We waited a very long time for the waiter. When he showed up, he wanted to just take our order. I asked what the vegetarian dish was and he didn't know. He'd check with the chef, but in the meantime he might as well tell us the specials which he rattled off so fast we couldn't have chosen one if we'd wanted. After another very, very long wait, some woman showed up and said she could tell us the veggie dish. She described it and did not make it very appetizing at all.
After another long wait - our waiter was busy making other customers quite comfortable - he finally came to take our order. The last party at our table asked for the duck. The waiter said there wasn't any - that we should have ordered when we made our reservation. I asked how we would know we had to reserve a dish - perhaps it should be noted to order in advance. He replied that it was our problem, there was none and it's not up to them to suggest what one might want when one makes a reservation.
The food finally came and was okay. Certainly not up to the level of expectation vis-a-vis the cost. I had the salmon and have had much better fish for less cost at another local restaurant.
We asked for the dessert menu and were shown a tray of unappetizing looking desserts. No one mentioned to us when we were ordering that if one wanted the souffle, we should order in advance. Since we were not shown a dessert menu, we did not even know it was available. None of us took a dessert.
Poor service, barely adequate food, very pricey - not returning soon!
I don't know of any other restaurant quite like Le Rendezvous in Tucson. The food is fantastic. We had the small plates on this visit and sat on the bistro side of the restaurant. Each plate is a little slice of heaven. The only thing I would warn about is if you do the small plates, keep an eye on your waiter if you don't want much of pause between the delivery of your small plates. Our waitress was also tending bar so we had a little wait in between orders. Don't forget to order a souffle for desert. You will have room even if you are full from dinner. The souffles are light, delicious, and delightful.
This is a nice romantic restaurant with great food. The scallops were wonderful but it is time to change the potato side, Anna's potatoes. They were over- cooked and it seems this is the only side they offer. I do frequent this restaurant often so it would be nice to see some new additions.
We always remembered fondly the good food, great service and very personalbe staff, nice ot now be in the neighborhood and not 110 miles away; looking forward to dining here often
Really, a sufficient review would be that when I took a trip to a smaller French city (Nancy) a few years ago, I was a little surprised to find that of the half-dozen or more places I tried, some with five-star pricetags, I didn't think any were better than this restaurant in Tucson, and some weren't nearly as good. I've eaten at better French restaurants (in other parts of France), but Les Rendez-vous is very good. Our favorites are the escargot appetizer, and the grand marnier souffle dessert. For Tucson, the prices are a little high, but it's worth it for a special occasion.
The Duck, as usual, was superb.... The best duck ever..... However my wife thought it didn't have enough sauce......picky
One negative.... The a/c was too strong, kept going on and off.....noisy and so strong it created a harsh draft.... Blew handkerchief off the table ....had to give my wife my jacket, I froze,.... BUt the duck was everything!!!!!!!!!!
Food is consistently delicious and beautifully plated! Service was very attentive, server was very friendly. Ambiance was enjoyable! Definitely a favorite of ours!
Great restaurant! We go there for my birthday and it was a great night. We when there during our vacation, so we book with open table, because it was our first trip in Tucson. The place is correct and the ambiance is sample but very well... The service is good and the Wellington Beef is perfect.... :-))
We have been here befor, the small plates are great, coffee always the best, but we were delited to have
been served by the best staf in Tucson, theMothers day brunch was to die for so good, we will be back
Food, wine, service, and ambience r always the best. Very well-trained staff.
Charming place with excellent classic french offerings! Tonight we enjoyed the onion soup and sea bass (cabrilla), while others enjoyed the house salad and veal medallions. For dessert we had amazing crepes suzette, prepared table side. All were outstanding!
The waiter recommended a very nice reasonably priced wine, which we all enjoyed. Service was great!
It is hard to find classic French in Tucson or elsewhere anymore and this place does it right!
We love the food and cocktails. Service was spot on.
My fiancee and I have been going to Le Rendez-vous for almost 3.5 years. It's by far our favorite restaurant. The food is incomparable, the atmosphere (ambiance) is appropriate, and the service is stellar. Although I'm a steak and prime rib guy, I never pass up the chance to dine at this incredible and not-so-well-known restaurant.
Friday night, we tried the Chateaubriand Béarnaise...WOW! That was the best beef I have ever had. Tenderloin for two cooked to your pleasure and melts in your mouth. I never use A-1 or any other sauce on beef. But this sauce was...I can't even put into words how delicious it was.
The service we received was outstanding. A very nice variety of dishes cooked to perfection. Comfortable yet elegant surroundings in the dining room. Quiet atmosphere. First visit but we will be back!
As a vegan I sometimes am quite disappointed at restaurants in Tuscon with the entree that is provided. Eating at Rendez-vous was a treat. The owner/chef, Gordon, provided one of the best meals I have had. Not only was the food quite tasty, but the presentation was outstanding. Kudos to Gordon for a job well done.
This was our second time at Le Rendez-vous Bistro. Our first visit was outstanding: super food and wonderful service. This time, however, the servers were terribly understaffed. Only three servers for the entire restaurant, and their jobs were not only serving, but also hosting, bar-tendering and busing. The food was excellent, as usual, and the wine list very extensive. We will certainly return, but hope that the restaurant will be fully staffed.
Nice for a special ocassion. Close to the univ ersity. Highly recommended
Le Rendev-zous is a great French restaurant. The escargot were fantastic, just enough garlic not to overpower the snails. The scallops I ordered were cooked to perfection. This is a great place for a special date night or just kicking back with friends who enjoy fine dining.
Our food and service was great. I would recommend this restaurant hands down to all. My only comment is the shrimp was a little too cooked.
Affordable and friendly. Menu choices are varied but not overwhelming! We have had 2 very pleasant experience s there!
All the dishes you would expect in a French restaurant, from coquilles St Jacques to ris de veau (which where excellent) ok wine list and frienly service
consistently great French food- service always impeccable
The reason I went to this place was for the beef wellington. Not many places in Tucson serve it as an entree so figured I would give it a try. Initially the place seemed romantic and had a good vibe.
The cons I have are:
1. It was way too hot in there. They have wall unit a/c but did not use them. By the end of dinner I was sweating. I couldnt imagine going there in the middle of summer.
2. The food is pretty good but not for the price. Wellington wasnt a $34 dish. Was probably more like $20-25.
3. The plating is inconsistent. My plate had plenty of sauce while my dates had very little.
4. For an upscale place the service was just ok. It took a long time before we even saw our server and got menus. They really should be more attentive and started to get a little better as the night moved on.
Overall it was a good meal, and if you are a die hard French fan its worth a visit.
I am never let down when I eat at Le Rendez-vous. It truly is an oasis of fine French food. It is probably the most consistent restaurant in Tucson. Where else can you go for a delicious filet mignon, prepared with green pepper corns, and flambeed table side. Top off the meal with a Grande Marnier souffle and we are talking one fine meal. The salads are excellent and the small plate items that are available on the Bistro side provide many options. Highly recommended. I will be back soon. ;-)
Our dinner was excellent. Service was attentive but not intrusive. The waiter recommended one dish over another, which we appreciated. Food was well prepared. We had fish, which arrived at the table perfectly cooked. Parking is readily available and convenient to the restaurant.
This was our first visit to LRV. We are new to Tucson but for the past 13 years have spent 6 months a year in France; plus we lived 30 years in San Francisco where there are many fine French restaurants.
We arrived at the restaurant amidst some chaos; there was no acknowledgement that we had a reservation (we did; it was our anniversary and I had mentioned it when making the reservation) and then the greeter hastily took us to a table where a group was seated, thinking we were part of the group. She subsequently pointed us to a vacant table that was in the main delivery aisle. After a bit of jockeying, we were taken to a table we liked.
My wife and I were disappointed with the baby spinach salad. Nevertheless, we very much enjoyed the sea bass and the veal medallion main courses. They were very, very good.
Now for the service. Although the wait staff was very friendly and were dressed nicely in French bistro style, they were not well trained in how to serve in a fine French restaurant. I cannot accept being addressed as "you guys" in any kind of restaurant, and to be addressed in such a fashion at LRV is not proper. We were then served a fine Malbec wine in a white wine glass. As we approached the end of our main course a waiter tried to take my wife's unfinished plate away. And, lastly, unlike any restaurant in France where you practically have to beg for the check, ours arrived before we were finished eating.
.....and no one said good-bye to us as we left.
I think we will try another French restaurant in Tucson before we return to LRV.
We found the restaurant VERY noisy. We made a reservation and we had to wait until they bussed a table. No one greeted us at the door. We compared the experience to all the times we came when the father of the present owner was there. It was relatively quiet, very welcoming and the food was MUCH better. So sad!
a real pleasant old style French bistro in Tucson, Serves a very good traditional French menu. service was great and the staff delightful. definitely a place I will go back to.
