Le Relais Ratings and Reviews
Le Relais has always been one of my favorite restaurants. The food is absolutely amazing. The atmosphere is superb and the service is always excellent. The owner stands back and watches everything that is happening and is the first to fill a water glass or bring a drink if a server is busy with another table. Top notch all around.
We took my husband out for a family birthday celebration recently despite reading poor reviews of their service. I understand and expect the meal to be served slowly as part of the dining experience. I didn’t expect to have to flag servers down repeatedly for water, dessert menu, to order, etc. The food was decent; not spectacular. I would not recommend. Go to Jack Fry’s for a much better dining experience.
Food was excellent, the wait staff friendly but not overbearing and the atmosphere cozy and relaxing. I had one of the best Old Fashions I've had in Louisville and the waiter recommended a bottle of wine that worked well with both my rainbow trout and my husband's tenderloin. The creme brûlée we shared at the end had a perfect warm burnt sugar crunch on top of a cool creamy custard. Whether on a date or with a group, we always have a fabulous experience at Le Relais.
Service was unusually slow. Young staff does not present food they just bring it to table and leave. They are too young for this type of restaurant and clientele. My daughter and I both had the lamb chops they were supposed to be rare to medium rare, they were well done. Did not send them back because we were hungry however we did send back mussels as they were cold.
We have eaten at Le Relais a few times before and were very pleased. This time not so much.

We took family during the Christmas holiday. The service was very good and the food was excellent. Everyone ordered a different dish so we tried everything from fish to steak. Everything was good. Anthony the owner is always there and very helpful when picking a wine to go with your dinner. We will go back.
Once again, Le Relais, a restaurant I have frequented for many years, did not disappoint. From
Appetizers, mine a beet salad which was exquisitely presented and tasted delicious with especially interesting textures, to our main dish, for both of us a small fillet mignon, everything was served and prepared to perfection. The owner's usual personal enagegment and excellent recommendation for our wine added to our enjoyment. I still regard this as one of Louisville's best restaurants.
We had not been there in years; more because “out of sight, out of mind” I guess, but we will be returning before long. The host was friendly, courteous and most helpful. Careful attention was given by all who served us; and our food was excellent! We remarked to each other that the background music was at a perfect volume; in no way hindering conversations yet could be heard.
The food was excellent, however, for a restaurant of that price category I have had much better service. Had reservations for months but was stuck in the corner next to the door which people were rushing in and out of. Wait staff seemed to be more attentive to what appeared to be more regular customers. It had a good ambience and good food but it didn’t give me any reason to come back.
If atmosphere is your thing, you can't go wrong. This place has it in aces. Appetizers (salmon, escargot & calamari) were very tasty. Unfortunately other aspects of the food quality have dropped in my last couple of visits and I personally don't see a return in the near future. Bibb salads very wet and tangy - too much vinegar. Caesar salad equally bland and dressing not balanced. Steak Au Poive was slightly warm, chewy and lacked enough of the highly touted cognac cream sauce. For $39 I was expecting so much more than the 5 pre-sliced bites. Filet's looked like they came out of a prepacked vacuum pack and - with the exception of the red wine beef stock demi-glaze - lacked any real flavor.
The service and my husband's food was wonderful. My soup was delicious. Unfortunately, my petite filet was barely luke warm when it arrived. I would have sent it back, but I had an early morning the next day and did not want to have to wait for a replacement. Quite frustrating. The taste was good but really didn't want a cold steak.
My husband, son and I dined at Le Relais to celebrate my son’s birthday. The experience was lovely right up until we had to wait an excessive amount of time for the dessert my son ordered. However, the establishment made it “right” on our bill which was excellent and we did not have to ask! The value of the experience is high due to the quality of the food, the service, and the ambiance. However, the portions are small even when you order the “full size” entree. Regardless, with appetizer and salad and bread, we did not go home hungry. 😊
Can't say enough. Our dinner was excellent on all levels; ambience, service, timeliness of flow from sitting down to paying the check. Waitress was extremely helpful with our questions. Recommendations were on point. Host was gracious not intrusive. Made us feel like regulars. And of course, let's not forget the food. Scallops and Salmon all around. Perfect.
We will become regulars!
Nice restaurant… Have not been there in quite some years. Appreciated the informative help with wine. Staff was very friendly and attentive. However the lamb chops and steak were disappointing. But the escargot, crab cake, foie gras and the salmon were fantastic! Had a fun evening overall.
It was our first time at Le Relais after living in Louisville for over 20 years. We had heard great things about the restaurant and decided to have a date night there last Saturday evening.
What a great choice - everything was exceptional. The food, service, ambiance, surroundings, wine selection and on and on and on.
We cannot say enough good things and will undoubtedly be going back there soon.
