Le Provencal Bistro Ratings and Reviews
Great neighborhood French restaurant. We dine at Le Provencal every couple of months. The occasion this time was New Year's Eve. They had a special menu (some items from the regular a la carte menu, others unique for the evening). Our appetizers and main courses were outstanding (escargots and crab meat for appetizers, bouillabaisse and horseradish crusted salmon for main courses). Service was excellent - restaurant was full and staff didn't miss a beat.
We have eaten at Le Provencal numerous times and have ALWAYS been pleased with our meal. The noise level enables us to have a lovely conversation, the diningroom is very nice, and the food is always excellent. We will be moving from the area in a few months and we know that we will sorely miss our evenings at Le Provencal.
Very friendly and very inexperienced waiter. Bloody Mary served in a WINE glass was awful. Had to ask repeatedly for drinks to be served. Waiter read specials from cards. Clearly hadn't a clue what he was reading, could not pronounce much of it. Descriptions were made up on the spot. WAY OVERPRICED for food that ranged from mediocre to BAD. The lone exception were the mussels. Delightful.
We were there for Le Provencal's 20th anniversary celebration, for which they had a special prix fixe menu for $29.95. That's why I gave it an outstanding for value. I wouldn't give it an outstanding for the regular a la carte menu. They do have other specials on an ongoing basis which are also a great value.
Le Provencal is a very nice local French restaurant; not really a bistro but more casual than you would expect from many French restaurants. Somewhat surprised by the number of families that bring small children there.
Mussels are my husband's favorite dish there. My favorite is the escargots appetizer.
We spent another nice evening at Provencal. We've eaten there over the years and it is a consistently pleasant experience. The food is good and one can actually have a conversation--even at one of the larger tables in a full restaurant on a Saturday evening. About how many restaurants can one say that these days?!
Great Selection of Menu items for lunch and dinner with nice variety of French and American Fare. Special Lunch 2-course Prix fixe choices are varied and plentiful. The mussels were particularly delicious. Wine list is reasonably priced with plenty of offerings by glass or bottle. Service was attentive.
We have been customers of Le Provençal since it's opening 20 years ago and haven't ever been disappointed. The good is consistently very good , the service extremely attentive , the place really pleasant and great for good conversation. The menu is varied and caters to different tastes. I had the Skirt au poivre with the famous pommes allumettes . The sauce au poivre was deliciously peppery and creamy and the meat flavorful and tender. Hoping for 20 more years of great fare.
My wife and I had a wonderful brunch, celebrating our anniversary. Everything we ordered was delicious. The service was attentive and not intrusive. The main room never gets too noisy so as to intrude on your conversations. It's a wonderful spot for a special occasion.
The "special occasion" was the restaurants 20th anniversary celebration. For a restaurant, this time frame is exceptional. Insane landlords, antsy partners, wild menu changes..... There is no finer FRENCH restaurant in the vicinity. A place of style with knowledgeable and interesting wait staff along with spectacular and reliable food and flavors. Let's not forget quick, remarkable drink service. Cheers to this fine space and those who have enjoyed and continue to enjoy Le Provencal.
We have been regular customers at this restaurant for a few years, to the point where he staff know us and even what drinks we like. We went there on a Friday night expecting a nice experience as usual. I was dismayed to see a table of about 10 people sitting up front. This was a bad omen, as the kitchen and the staff can never keep up with the other tables when there is a large group in a relatively small restaurant. Happens every time. We were seated and got some drinks. The waitress was not knowledgeable about the menu and described the hanger steak as a skirt steak, which it is not. I asked about the Provencal onion tart, and whether is was similar to a quiche, she replied, yes. It arrived and was a pile of sautéed onions, resembling worms, sitting in a dessert tart shell (very sweet, not savory). Nothing like what we discussed. I could not eat it. She saw this and didn't offer me anything in it's place. We ordered drinks to have with our appetizers but they didn't arrive until after the plates were cleared so I was stuck with a martini to have with my entrée. The duck confit was smothered to death in a thick heavy wine sauce with way too many mushrooms. Dessert was basically a slice of banana bread drowned in chocolate sauce. Our server was covering too many tables and not attentive to us at all. She seemed about 16 years old. The owner made her rounds to say to everyone but ignored us, regular customers. The anniversary price fixe menu had a supplemental price on over 50% of the items, including the terrible onion tart which contained no ingredients that would warrant a supplement. Just raise the price $5 instead of charging extra for almost everything. We will not return, as they made no attempt to make things right for us. What a waste of time and money. This place is getting old and worn out and too lax about lousy service. Service is everything.
This is one of the few restaurants that my wife and I agree upon to visit often. We were satisfied every time. That says a lot about the consistency and quality of the food and its preparation. This time we came to the restaurant for our 43rd wedding anniversary. By sheer coincidence, they are celebrating their 20th opening anniversary, so we took advantage of their special menu. The food was great, and the service impeccable.
Le Provencal is always fabulous. The service is spot on--attentive without being overbearing. The regular menu is great but the specials always entice. I have the lump crab meat salad special and the crab was so fresh. My entrée was the classic hangar steak and pomme frites done just how I like it. This is a neighborhood gem that more Fairfield and Westchester folks should make a regular.
