Le Papagayo Ratings and Reviews
The food was superb, the service very good but the ambiance was missing. We could not hear each other over the band; worse yet, bar patrons hung over our table. Despite this, we would return again for the food if it was warm enough to sit outside or there was no band playing. All meals, especially the seafood were amazing! Pricing is very reasonable for the high quality of the food and generous portion size.
Sadly the whole experience was not very good. Appetizer - crab cake was frozen in the middle - sent it back after tracking down wait staff after 10 min. It came back out long after the main course. Staff was disorganized and dressed in whatever they wanted to wear (killed the ambiance). Main course (prime rib) was good but nothing special. I really think this restaurant could be amazing if it had some structure, quality control and standards. I may try it again at some point but really bummed I wasted my new years dinner here.
Wow. Don't know how this place has escaped us for the last few years. Killer seafood and other stuff. Nice selection of beer. Good wine list. Parking is interesting but Leucadia always is a little challenging but much easier than Del Mar or Encinitas. We will become regulars. Just a cool place.
We had a pleasant evening, and our server was very good. We arrived on time and were seated promptly. However, we did not have a choice between indoor or outdoor seating, and had to sit on the patio. They did have heaters, but not enough, and I was somewhat chilled for the whole meal. Next time I'll know to request an indoor table during the cooler weather.
I met a friend here for a catch up dinner on the lovely patio. We both enjoyed our meals and the sangria. Our server was wonderful and very helpful. The only hiccup was the hostess- the restaurant entry is a bit awkward and I was unsure of where to wait for a table. The hostess wasn't very helpful or welcoming. Overall enjoyed the experience.
The restaurant has a problem with it's online reservation system. We made a reservation on Open table and received an email with the reservation info. We went to the restaurant and the reservation was not in the system at the restaurant and the manger could not or would not seat us indoors (when I made the reservation I specifically requested indoor seating). We noticed that it happened to at least one other party. The manager was overwhelmed and unable to provide us with a satisfactory seating and so we left. Clearly, there were two problems: the first was with the reservation and the second was with the way that the restaurant dealt with the lost reservation.
Having been to Le Papagayo many many times, it is consistantly excellent. I have always eaten the tapis but the main courses look fantastic. Service has always been top notch, however, this last time the waitress appeared disinterested and not really into the evening. I felt like we were doing her a favor by being there, but she warmed up a bit towards the end of the evening. The Dynamite is absolutely fantastic if you like a hot sea food in a white sauce. The Flat breads are really good and they seemed very fresh. We ordered way too much but the chicken is VERY hot and wonderful , just keep wine or water handy. I would pass on the grilled artichokes, I can eat them at home any time....I am going back soon for another birthday. It is good for happy hour after that...expensive but well worth it, just dont order as much as we did for two. Love the interesting flavors and presentation.
There was four of us dining and the food was delivered in three separate sections so the first two people they got their food ended up having to start eating first as it was getting cold before the next two meals came out separately. The variety of food we had was the local Mocho, mahi mahi tacos, prime rib dip, and eggs and Carney Asada. Between the four meals none of them really stood out as outstanding, the tacos were cold and just horrible . The service was amazing and great. The atmosphere is awesome. But was very disappointed in the food and the delivery being delayed and awkward at our table.
Great overall first time experience here! Host stand was busy when we arrived- as expected, so we got a drink at the bar and waited for our table to be ready. Great server Shannon, I think, and my wife and I tried lots of small plates - the artichoke and sliders were the winners! Can’t wait to come back- highly recommend outside vs inside dining.
Our server needed to be asked multiple times for waters, refills and it took us a while to get to order drinks and food. She also messed up all our credit cards and had to rerun them all. Lamb burger was mediocre but the grand mariner french toast was amazing. Overall it was an ok experience
We’re frequent customers of Le Papagayo and were horrified by the treatment we received from the host. Upon arrival, early for our reservation, we asked to be notified if any tables opened up sooner. Then, after waiting an hour, the host assigned us to a table in the bar, next to the kitchen door at a table that had been vacant almost the entire time we had been waiting. When we asked to be relocated because the spot was too noisy, we were told that it would not be possible. We opted to dine down the street instead.
That host really didn’t seem to care. What a shame!
The food and ambiance was great as usual. We had one minor issue with the service; our table had food spilled on it between courses, and had to ask multiple times to have it take care of. The issue was only rectified after approaching the waitress while she was away from the table.
