Le Papagayo Ratings and Reviews
There was four of us dining and the food was delivered in three separate sections so the first two people they got their food ended up having to start eating first as it was getting cold before the next two meals came out separately. The variety of food we had was the local Mocho, mahi mahi tacos, prime rib dip, and eggs and Carney Asada. Between the four meals none of them really stood out as outstanding, the tacos were cold and just horrible . The service was amazing and great. The atmosphere is awesome. But was very disappointed in the food and the delivery being delayed and awkward at our table.
Great overall first time experience here! Host stand was busy when we arrived- as expected, so we got a drink at the bar and waited for our table to be ready. Great server Shannon, I think, and my wife and I tried lots of small plates - the artichoke and sliders were the winners! Can’t wait to come back- highly recommend outside vs inside dining.
Our server needed to be asked multiple times for waters, refills and it took us a while to get to order drinks and food. She also messed up all our credit cards and had to rerun them all. Lamb burger was mediocre but the grand mariner french toast was amazing. Overall it was an ok experience
We’re frequent customers of Le Papagayo and were horrified by the treatment we received from the host. Upon arrival, early for our reservation, we asked to be notified if any tables opened up sooner. Then, after waiting an hour, the host assigned us to a table in the bar, next to the kitchen door at a table that had been vacant almost the entire time we had been waiting. When we asked to be relocated because the spot was too noisy, we were told that it would not be possible. We opted to dine down the street instead.
That host really didn’t seem to care. What a shame!
The food and ambiance was great as usual. We had one minor issue with the service; our table had food spilled on it between courses, and had to ask multiple times to have it take care of. The issue was only rectified after approaching the waitress while she was away from the table.
One of my top 5 meals of all time! My sis was visiting from Oregon and I wanted to take her to one of my favorite eateries! The food was so spectacular that it rendered both of us speechless - which is hard to do!! I live in the High Desert but would do the 2 hour drive just to eat here!!
I was disappointed with the fact that o made a reservation and then go thrown into the "only option" available table according to the not so kind hostess. I was placed in the small room right next to the beer taps and where all servers go to place orders and grab plates. Not sure why I bothered with a reservation since I was given no option of table and placed at the worse possible spot. Server was great
We live locally, and, although we only live a few blocks away, we hadn't been there yet as we were new to the area.
Prob 1) We ordered our drinks (4 of us) and two of the drinks delivered were not what were ordered. It took nearly ten minutes to get the waitress to bring the correct drinks. By then our guests drank the wrong drinks they ordered, and we were charged for them. Hello, we waited 10minutes for the correct drinks.
Prob 2) We ordered dinner. Two of the meals delivered were the wrong cut of meat, with, the wrong sauce. When we told our waitress, she came back with the correct sauce and told us our cut of meat was actually a better cut. Hello, the wrong sauce was already on the wrong cut of beef. Now she wanted us to pour the correct sauce over the meal...wth? She never offered to correct the problem.
Pro 3) As if #'s 1 & 2 above weren't enough, as we were paying the bill, a waiter walking by with a tray of food overhead (the typical waiter/waitress carry) one of the plates slide off the tray and down my leg. I was wearing shorts and my Italian loafers I bought while in Tuscany. Our waitress seen the fiasco, said she was sorry, and not one of the staff brought me a towel, extra napkins, nothing.
So with the above said, the food was really good for two of us, and the drinks were good for two of us, however, there were four of us.
You make the call as to try it or not. For me, there's just too many other options out there in our awesome town of Encinitas and Leucadia to be mistreated like this, and, not be compensated some how.
There was a wedding function being held outside. I feel this put the restaurant in an out of control situation. Our service was severely lacking. Our hors d'oeuvres came after our entree. The artichoke was a waste as there was nothing to eat, however, the coconut shrimp was excellent. My husband and I had the tacos and there was only four little strips of beef for $26 or $28 and we were not asked for our preference in tortillas. Would not return again.
Celebrated my birthday and was hoping for a brunch. Their brunch menu is sort of sad, but ordered off the regular menu and everyone in the group was very happy with their food. I had the verde benedict. Very good. The best was the berry mojito! I had 2. I would go back just for this drink.
Loved the food there, however, I was looking forward to having lobster risotto and I was craving it all day and we got there at 3:50pm and they only serve happy hour items. No lunch or dinner menu! Never heard of that before!!!!! But their happy hour menu items were still large portions and very good. Disappointed that I didn't get my risotto but happy everything else was good.
