Great experience catching up with family over well-cooked food.
Exceptional food and a great value!
The dining rooms offer a variety of options for occasions
Love the place!
An excellent dinner, friendly and helpful service, easy to find, several dining rooms so nice ambiance. A good place to enjoy a leisurely dinner.
Excellent food and great care taken by staff to make sure everything was to our liking. We will be returning.
We've been to le Lyonnais many times, as a couple, with another couple, or with a group, and have always been delighted. We most recently had the beet salad, then sweetbreads for one of us, and trout with mushrooms in a crêpe for the other. The sweetbreads, one of several unusual offerings, were delicious, and the trout was the best we've ever had. Although cocktails are available, we've had only wine, always fine. The desserts are good too, but we don't always make it that far, as the entrée portions are generous. Service is outstanding (Gail has usually been our server). We always feel we've had good value, but especially so when we order from the prix fixe menu. Le Lyonnais is our favorite restaurant.
Mixed reviews on this restaurant and I really had high expectations! We chose it as a late Valentine's meal and drove 45 minutes from NH. We had eaten there many years ago. Had the onion soup and was very disappointed - very bland and needed salt. Gerard's salad with the pears was very good though.
I had the mixed grill and my husband had the pork loin. With the exception of the meat, we had identical side dishes (as did others as I glanced around). Not very inventive! Portions were ok and the meat was cooked as requested but no special sauces offered. Rolls were cold and not too interesting. My husband had the prix fixe so he had dessert - creme caramel which I tried and didn't find too exciting. And my coffee was cold. Not sure it's worth the drive when there are so many options.
Must be due to the busy weekend rush, but the service was very slow and the food was decent for the price. Nice ambiance and cozy environment though.
We've eaten at Le Lyonnais a few times over the years, sometimes with a little disappointment but generally enjoyably. Last Wed (St. V's Day) was better than that -- was a superb meal. My wife had the salmon and said it was excellent, perhaps just a little underseasoned. I had the duckling and it was the best duck dish I've had outside Chinatown -- perfectly cooked and sauced. The vegetable medley was excellect, perfectly cooked, lovely presenation. Only the rice was ordinary. Good salad. Nice desserts. This was an entirely happy meal.
I booked a table for my wife’s birthday which happens to be on Valentine’s Day. We were waiting at our table for 15-20 mins before anyone came to take our order. The food was disappointing. Not bad but not worth $145 :-( The restaurant was busy on Valentine’s Day so we assume a few corners had to be cut given the number of customers that evening. The food may be better other days...
Always great
We revisited an old favorite after a long absence and found it better than ever. Price fix options (two) are great value; our meals were done perfectly and the dining experience is both relaxing and exquisite. we are returning next week with friends who likewise hadn't been there for a while and want to share our enthusiasm for such a local gem. Forty seven years in the same old home location and better than ever.
Excellent, chef G. Labrosse still has the French touch for great French food!
I was really impressed with Le Lyonnais. The food, atmosphere, and service were all excellent. Highly recommended for a special occasion or date, but I'd enjoy it on any occasion.
With 8 pm reservation, we've still waited for 40 min. Owner came out, apologized and gave 2 free drinks. We were seated in back room, throughout our dining there were 2 tables with dirty dishes that were never cleaned. Vodka martini was well prepared and Burgundy was decent. Paella was very good, but Cog au Vin was not. Biggest disappointment was the deserts: ice cream seemed from supermarket , crust too soft
For 160$ (w/tips) - we expected a bit more, nicer surroundings, much better service
Gerard is a nicest guy, he and his wife did come over and apologized for the wait, and it'd be fine if everything else was up to par. I think the place seen its better days ...
Food was good, but feel it was probably better in the past. This place has been in the same spot for close to 50 years. Chef Gerard has pics on the wall with Julia Childs & Jacques Pepin. The pics appear to be well over 20 years old. I started with the Onion soup. While it was quite good, it was lacking a bit in flavor. Seems more like soup base was used, rather than reducing stock from veal bones. Veal bone reduction add real flavor to the soup. Richard had the Seafood Marseilles soup. It also seemed to have a lot of soup base rather than reducing stock from Lobster shells etc. For my main entrée, I had the Seafood Crepe. This was excellent. Rich creamy sauce & generous seafood. Richard had the Duck A la Orange. it was good but we've had far better at Café Escadrille.(our favorite restaurant) For dessert, Richard had the fruit tart. It was good, but being a pastry chef, he could easily tell the crust was not made in house. He found the crust too hard. My dessert was the Antoinette, which was creamy & decadent. Our feeling here is that chef Gerard is obviously quite elderly now(probably well into his 80's)It's certainly hard to maintain the pace of what is really quite a busy restaurant. I'm sure he has staff do most of the cooking, due to his age. What he really needs, is a classically trained French Chef to learn from him, & eventually take over the business. I certainly would comeback again as the food was good. To the average consumer, who really doesn't know truly fine French cooking, would still be very happy here. It's just being in the food industry ourselves & being 'foodies" as well, Richard & I really know if "shortcuts" are being made.
Very nice setting.
Delicious fare.
Owners very accommodating.
Meal was delicious especially the pate. The menu is surprisingly generous and offers more than the expected number of dishes. The wine list is very limited however we were able to select a very nice bottle which paired well with our meal. Very surprised a French restaurant did not offer the appropriate glasses for red wine. The dessert was delicious! The staff is more than accommodating when we shared our appetizers and dessert. The decor is eclectic and some was definitely out of place but it is the sort of place where I’m sure there is some a story behind why any particular item is displayed. We would definitely return.
The food was so good, the service was amazing. Thank you for making my boyfriend’s birthday so special.
Loved the warm cozy atmosphere here and the service was fantastic— perfectly paced meal (not to rushed, never left waiting). The food was excellent - I had the orange duck and my husband had the stuffed quail. The sides were a bit uninspired, but I’m not big on veggies anyway. The appetizers and salads were excellent as well. Overall a nice quiet enjoyable meal that left is feeling relaxed and satisfied.
On a date with a woman who lived in France for years and I wanted to impress. We live in Merrimack Valley, so I was pleased to find high-end dining didnt mean a hour long drive. The atmosphere was quiet & warm, staff was friendly and polite. We shared a nice bottle of white and each had the 3-course meal. I would not say the service was quick, but I think that is the point. This is a place where you do not feel rushed to move to the next course. Cost was VERY reasonable. I was especially pleased that there was only a reasonable mark-up on the wine. The food was good to awesome, quality but not overstated or snobby.
Outstanding service!! This is a family run restaurant that really makes its guests feel like guests going out of their way to accommodate special requests. Lovely atmosphere, quiet, and a wonderfully diverse selection of French classic cuisine. Will definitely return
I have been coming to La Lyonnais for 40+ years. They have always been consistently great. I have many fond memories of coming here and will continue to come when I am in the area!
Authentic French cuisine in the suburbs, always amazed that it isn't more crowded. Please be prepared for a leisurely dinner as the French do not rush - it's simply not done.
House wine - very bad
Meal - adequate, just not sure worth the high price
Server was good. However the operation is very inefficient
This is our all time favorite place. The food is delicious hearty and French. We enjoy the pre fixe menu which offers great variety at reasonable prices. the seafood crepe is notable and the home made pate with salad exceptional!
Excellent food, great drinks. Loved the french martini. Great atmosphere. Staff was very friendly and accommodating as I eat Paleo, and my meal was adapted to my dieter needs. We even got to meet the Chef. This our second time and will be going back.
Excellent food, excellent service, reasonably priced We will be returning!
Le Lyonnais, a unique restaurant set a New England home the downstairs transformed for dining, offers delightful French bistro menu and good service. Our party of 7 there to celebrate a birthday had trout, chicken and beef entrees. Some chose the 3 course prefix menu others ala carte. The birthday guy was given a free dessert. Chef/proprietor, Gerard came out to say hello and his lovely wife Joan was our server since someone called off that night. Everyone left happy.
Chef Gerard gets better all the time. Food was wonderful and generous servings.
Elegant dining for special occasion. Conveniently located in western suburb. Very reasonable prices. It had been years since we dined here but we will definitely return soon. No need to travel to Boston or elsewhere for excellent dining experience. There is an extensive menu with many options of French style cuisine (meat, seafood and my favorite -- duck l'orange). The elegant setting makes this a wonderful way to celebrate a special occasion or for a romantic dinner for two.
The food was delicious! The rack of lamb was one of the best I have ever had and the seafood crepes also were very good. Very pleasant and helpful waitress.
Our first time dining here. It is a nice place to go for authentic country french food. We loved the entire experience . We will return.
Thank you to a wonderful Chief Gerar and his team for opening earlier just for me with 2 kids. We've enjoyed food and dessert . Will come back again.
We always look forward to dine at Le Lyonnais. The food is exquisite and the service great.
Pleasing, classic french fare. We had a lovely evening, not recommended for those in a rush.
Thank you to Gerar the chief for a wondeful food ! I’ve immediately booked another visit there but this time with the children .
the food was fabulous!!! Quail, rack of lamb, beef, great different choices. great ambiance, nice find.
Charming, and lovely place. delicious food! Gérard the Chef, came to greet the remaining customers at the end of the night. My wife is also from lyon and talked to him in french. memorable dinner.
Excellent restaurant and food, and the decor was unique and charming.
The place has been operating for 46 years. I wish I had been there before. Excellent meal and wonderful experience overall.
