Le Donne Cucina Italiana Ratings and Reviews
The food was very good. Homemade papparedel with bolonaise was a big hit. So was the homemade tortellini with a light cream sauce. Prosciutto and melon was also good. Wine list left much to be desired and the red we ordered wasn’t very good. This is a very good place for homemade Italian food without the frills.
We have been to Donne Cuchina before and we usually go when the canneloni is on the menu. We made a reservation and it was quite busy when we arrived, so it took a while to be seated. We ordered canneloni with spinach, and pasta carbonara, and the food was good, however the canneloni was not as hot as usual. The server also did not bring bread , so I am not sure if this was a miss, or the restaurant has changed it's practice. It was not overly warm that day so the wine which is at room temperature was better than when it is hot. We may try a different Italian place if we can get a recommendation on good canneloni.
Firstly the service was outstanding. Not only was our server excellent, but there were others who were checking on us and helping as well. They were helpful about menu choices (there are a lot) and allowed my fiancé to create an entree out of two separate choices, and both were excellent. We both loved the homemade pasta. It was lively that night as a group was having an event, and while we were not bothered by it, the staff was careful to keep asking. If/when I’m back in the area, I’d definitely go again.
Although this restaurant received mostly high-praise, we found it "fair to middling." Friday evening @ 7:15 jam packed. Seated quickly. The fresh tomatoes atop the bruschetta left the toasted bread soggy. Cooked spinach excellent, chopped salad adequate (small portion). Pasta said to be the main event. Linguini with shrimp and button mushrooms was very flavorful; shrimp were medium-sized ($17.95). Linguini with clams and mussels in white sauce was only fair ($18.95). The sauce lacked sufficient shellfish flavor. The linguini was properly cooked. Cabernet sauv by the glass lacked any depth/complexity. Although we were at tail-end of ''the crush'', 40+ elapsed before we got our entrees. I do believe there is better to be had locally for Italian food.
The waitress messed up our order several times. Our friends ordered a bottle of wine. She brought a glass. She never brought a wine bucket. She didn’t bring the bread ever. Not that we needed it, but she didn’t bring it at all. My husband ordered a Diet Coke. She never told him the restaurant doesn’t have Coke products but Pepsi products. We can tell the difference between Diet Pepsi and Diet Coke. When giving us our dinner, she gave us the wrong meals. She just does not listen well.
We were visiting Palm Desert for the holiday weekend and wanted a quick bite. The atmosphere was casual. I liken this restaurant to a “Maria’s kitchen” , but not as good of food. It was fine, the service was friendly, but I probably wouldn’t go back. If you don’t mind an older crowd and mediocre Italian food, then this is the place for you
This small Italian restaurant features homemade pasta that can compete with any Los Angeles or
New York neighborhood restaurant.
Pastas (and there are a lot of choices!) are out of this world. Service excellent And you can hear your groups entire conversation. Thank you for an amazing pre -Thanksgiving dinner. We’ll be back!
Lovely neighborhood spot with an enormous menu. Meal starts with delicious garlicky bruchetta. Eggplant parm was a little mushy. Great homemade pastas. Eggplant sausage and shrimp with truffle oil were delicious. Nice salads and minestrone soup was great. Good service. Indoor seating is a little crowded. Front room more stuffy than the back.
Food was very good! Complimentary piece of bruschetta that was delishious. Had an appetizer of scallops on garlic spinach, also very tasty. And for our entre we both had chicken piccata. Again really tasty. Not a bite left on the plate. Enjoyed it and will be going back.
