What Insiders Are Saying
This French bistro is the place to see anyone who’s ever been on “Meet the Press". The food is also delicious.
Really fun time at Easter brunch. We ordered the eggs norwegian and the steak and eggs and both were outstanding. Wonderful atmosphere and service. Dont leave without ordering profiteroles!
Excellent food, and champagne, cocktails and wine were all outstanding. Service was great as well. Highly recommend for any special occasion.
This was our 2nd time at this restaurant. The 1st time both our meals were wonderful. This time I ordered the steak frites and I was so disappointed! The meat was very tough and not that tasty. Even with a steak knife I had a hard time cutting it
As always, Le Diplomate was slammed but still terrific. The service was great and the food is consistently delicious. Of course having an option to buy a loaf of the cranberry walnut bread to take home is also a win.
The food was pretty good, but not the best French brunch I've had. The fries were super bland and needed salt/pepper and maybe a couple of different sauces. The service was quite negligent.
The oysters were WAY TOO BIG awkward to eat on a date.
Food was good. Horrible and rude service. Been working in the food industry for 20 plus years. Food runners were amazing and the manager walking around was very attentive. Server started to mumble when we called him over to ask a question. He never came back to take our dinner order. We were finished with appetizers and he was everywhere, but our table.
We had a great experience overall at Le Diplomate. The food and drinks were very good and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
I only was a little disappointed in the tenderness of the meat in the beef bourguigon but the manager came talk to me as soon as I made a comment, offered to change my plate and did not charge me for it.
There is nothing not to like here. Service was a throwback to days gone by when a diner wanted for nothing and the waiter anticipated your every need/whim. Attentive without being pretentious. Food is outstanding as well.
A very nice space, with excellent cocktails and friendly, efficient service. I ordered the duck for mains and, while it was beautifully cooked, I did feel it was over seasoned and too salty.
We never miss Le Diplomat when in DC! Not stuffy, just fun.
Excellent find but far too noisy. There was a young girls birthday dinner near us and the parents were oblivious to the noise their girls were making in a restaurant that is not geared for screaming children.
Good but not great service. Attentive manager who checked with guests regarding their experience. Excellent food with generous portions and superb wine list. An excellent night out but far too noisy place, if you expect to converse.
Wonderful dinner. Service was especially good. The coconut meringue for dessert was out of this world.
The food is amazing and the service is impeccable. They all but eat the food for you.
A must go in DC. Make reservation. Great service! Moules frites were amazing! Steak frites was super! The milk chocolate creme/mousse för dessert was to die for. Our waiter John was so good and cute. Will visit again!
Always amazing food and wine. The service is fantastic and I loved out waiter!!
My wife and I love dining at Le Diplomate. Fantastic food and a decent wine selection. And their bar makes excellent drinks. Efficient, unobtrusive service. Just a great time.
Excellent food, friendly service, great ambiance
This out-of-towner's Return visit to favorite. Great experience, as always.
I love Le Diplomate! Went here for my birthday and it was fantastic. :) The petite plateau was amazing, as was the lobster risotto. Service was on point! Thank you for a great birthday!
You cannot beat the warm shrimp salad. Tuesday special of lobster risotto is also excellent.
Our server was absolutely incredible. Very nice and knowledgeable about the menu. I know why this restaurant has such a good reputation! I would absolutely recommend Le Diplomate to everyone who wants an amazing and consistent meal with a trendy atmosphere.
We ( a family of 4) had dinner here on a Monday night. Our server Rick was top notch, he had great recommendations, was attentive and just all around fabulous! The food was superb we never felt rushed and restaurant had a nice vibe! Highly recommend. We will be back.
The best restaurant in DC. Hands down.
Great atmosphere, food delicious
Excellent as always! Everyone we've ever brought there has also loved it.
We had visitors from out of town. The food was excellent, as always and our waiter was friendly.
We were seated in a very tight corner and other patrons were kind of rude about the our proximity to them- I don’t blame them because it was a bit tight.
Enjoyed lunch at Le Diplomate and it was just what I was looking for.
As always, terrific service and fantastic food. And this time we experienced a really good response from a manager who had walked over just as we were commenting on how little duck was included with the Duck Sarladaise in comparison to past visits. He agreed, apologized (although we weren’t really complaining as much as commenting to each other), and shortly brought by an extra serving of duck. What a professional response to overhearing our comment.
So just another reason to add to the list of them that make this one of our favorite places in dc.
Great time - food was delicious, attentive service, great table. Highly recommend and would definitely dine here again.
My daughter and went for brunch. We ordered the petite seafood tower. Outstanding. The quality and quantity was impressive. If you love seafood this is a must. They say it will serve is 1-3. We were very satisfied I think it could easily serve 4 as a great opener. We followed up with the foi gras spread. Again, decadent and so smooth. We finished with the portfolios with dark chocolate sauce. A perfect brunch. Our service was outstanding and all the plates going by looked fabulous. When ever I am in town I try to go here. I have had lunch and dinner as well. Never disappointed highly recommend. Let Diplomate has it all great food, superior service and ambience.
Another exemplary dinner at Le Diplomate. The steak au poivre and milk chocolate pot de creme are the stuff of dreams. We missed the old plating of the radish crudite with thin slivers of radish mixed in with the chunks; this new plating makes it too hard to put the big radish halves directly on the brioche, but we muddled through with buttered radishes with a side of brioche. (Not a deal breaker.) They sent out glasses of champagne to help us celebrate my husband's promotion, and the sommelier engaged us in an informative conversation about cognac and armagnac. Sommeliers here are consistently approachable, knowledgeable, and helpful, and this gentleman was no exception. Overall excellent service and truly our favorite food in the city. Thank you!
First time at brunch as I am usually here for dinner. Very nice menu, lots of options besides delicious egg dishes. Very, very busy on a Saturday afternoon. Enjoyed the meal as the food is always wonderful! Excited about their opening for lunch on Fridays for the season.
An amazing experience! Our server, Enje, was fantastic, both knowledgeable and upbeat. The fois gras parfait was to die for - don’t leave without trying it!
Always love this place, food, and the service but last visit was not as great as expecting to be. Our server was terrible and food slightly under cooked :/
The food and service are terrific. We felt a little rushed this time by several aggressive attempts to clear our plates when one of us was clearly still eating. I wish there was a way to address the noise level as my partner and I had difficulty hearing one another.
The Beef Bourgignon was amazing, as was the white asparagus appetizer.
This place remains an excellent choice. The service and food are top of the line and I never leave disappointed. There is a reason that after so many years, you still need a reservation to get in here. If you value consistency and a restaurant that insists on getting it right, then Le Dip is for you.
We love ale Diplomate! The bread. The ambiance. Like being in PARIS. Must have warm shrimp salad!
