Good meal as always, though server was noticeably confused when we asked to split an entree. I thought this was a reasonable request, though our server seemed reluctant to do so.
Love Le diplomate, it never disappoints . One of the top restaurants in DC
The service was outstanding and the food was delicious. We will definitely be coming here again to try more of the dishes. We got the escargot and the foie gras as appetizers and they were delicious. All dishes were very rich in classic French fashion. I got the mussels which were great, too, and tasted my boyfriend’s chicken pot pie which was very tasty. All around wonderful meal. And we got the profiterol for dessert which was fantastic. The servers were attentive but not obsessive, which I appreciated. It was crowded but we could still hear each other speak. And the interior is designed so beautifully. Definitely a pricier meal, and will be reserved for special date nights for us, but I absolutely will be coming back, and highly recommend to others.
Half Chicken and Fries was excellent. Great Ambience.
This was my first time at Le Dip after more than a year in D.C. I’ve heard nothing but amazing things, and now I know why! While the menu was a bit pretentious for someone who doesn’t speak French, the waiters and atmosphere were surprisingly welcoming. Every dish that passed by our table looked (and smelled) exquisite, but the Eggs Norwegian I chose was out of this world. I can’t wait to return!
Brunch menu was delicious and a very festive atmosphere to celebrate a special birthday!
A quick overnight in dc for a concert; made reservations for Sunday brunch 11:15. There was a huge line with people waiting at the bar. We were seated quickly-very close to our reservation time. Our server was friendly and helpful....the food was f*cking amazing. We travel to dc frequently and Le Diplomate is now on our short list...I wouldn’t be surprised if it becomes one of our dc visit staples.
I asked to be seated somewhere better, but they couldn't accommodate. It was 10:30 pm and I had a reservation, of course, but they still sat me all the way in the back (though I pointed out better seats that appeared available, and were still empty when I left). The place is too large to expect a decent atmosphere. The braised lamb tasted like cafeteria food; it was bad. But... the server was nice enough to remove the lamb from the bill, and we shared a good dessert. If you're stressed about not getting the reservation you want, don't be.
Very busy place on a Saturday night (and I believe the rest of the week too). The food was good, and the service was excellent once we sat down. The bar was busy and service OK. Too crowded for my taste.
Birthday dinner! The food was so good!
Delicious food and classy ambiance! Love this spot.
Dinner was lovely ! Beautiful restaurant and delicious food !
We celebrated our anniversary and the restaurant went the extra mile to make sure it was special. Such a wonderful meal and experience.
Our waiter was constantly rushing us out the door which was disappointing and felt really uncomfortable.
Met friends for Brunch. On the positive side: the service was great. We were greeted by friendly staff at the reception area and seated immediately. Our table staff was also friendly and attentive. My water glass and coffee mug were never empty. The bread basket was excellent and the prices were reasonable.
Negative: it was LOUD. My throat hurt at the end from trying to talk with my friends. Also my food arrived cold. It was still delicious so I ate it anyway.
Le Diplomate is always a wonderful experience! The food of course is incredible, but the service always takes the meal overtop. Having celiacs it can be hard to have a good french meal while gluten free, but the wait staff is always incredible accommodating and attentive (like including apple slices with our cheese board since I can’t have the bread!). Le Dip will always be at the top of my DC recommendation list.
Two of my closest friends and I gathered at Le Diplomate for Saturday brunch to celebrate their October birthdays. Our server, Sarah, was delightful. We will ask to sit in her section again. The food was amazing and all of the staff at Le Diplomate were accommodating and professional.
This is by far one of my favorite restaurants in DC. The atmosphere is charming. It has the feel of an establishment that has been around for 100 years, even though it is relatively new. The food is outstanding and generous. The menu includes all of the things you would expect to find at a French bistro. The breads and pastries are especially delicious.
Service is also top notch.
Fun place with a good vibe. Service was excellent and food delicious. A little prices but, knew that before we went.
Always outstanding!!! Never disappoints! Warm shrimp
Salad is the most delicious thing I’ve ever tasted!
Outstanding “Warm Shrimp Salad” which my lady split with me an appetizer.
Always love coming to your bistro.
My lady friend had your Thur “special” The Dover Sole which she enjoyed. However, taken aback when
our bill arrived and noticed that dish was $52 which struck me as a little bit much!
Outstanding service and meal! Our favorite place to come when visiting DC! Typically I like to try new places but le diplomate is different! I want to come here every trip to Szechuan!!
The steak and the chicken was outstanding. Our server was on top of our every need. When you have great service and outstanding food and never feel rushed you know you’ve had a superior ding experience. We’ll be back.
I had the tuna appetizer and the veal with mushroom sauce. The tuna was so salty that one could not taste the tuna. The mushroom sauce was watery and also way over salted.
I was triple charged after the fact all varying amounts and never heard a word back from them after 2 calls. It’s disgusting they would treat a customer like that.
My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our dinner from beginning to end. The duck was cooked perfectly and it went well with the reduction and spinach. We can’t wait to dine at Le Diplomate again!
Bugs everywhere. The service was lovely, their staff is very nice. But after spending a meal fighting flies, gnats, and other bugs off of myself and my food (indoors with the windows closed) the last straw was when one flew into my eye and I had to go to the restroom to get it out - broken bug parts and all. I’ve never quite had an experience like it in any restaurant. Nice people, good bread, but the bugs are on another level. This is not a clean place.
First I want to say that we love this restaurant and the food and service never disappoint. This visit was a little different... there was a horrible fly problem at our table, maybe due to a decorative pumpkin that was going south, maybe cause we were sat near a window... I’m not sure but it was awful... we could barely enjoy our meal.
Great waiter and amazing food, especially the cheese board. We will be back!!
The food was beautifully prepared and delicious! Amazing brunch, good service, large portions. Yummy espresso and most wonderful croissant I’ve ever had. Merci!
i guess we picked the wrong dishes the lobster omelette was kinda bland the bass was still skinned and just large kidney beans.
the apps were ok the entrees not happy with and the apple dessert was meh also.
My sister and brother-in-law, married a few weeks ago, wanted a dining experience in Washington unlike one that they could get in their home town of Madison, WI. Le Diplomate fit the bill perfectly. They were thrilled and we had the same satisfaction that we experienced during our 12 prior visits to the restaurant. The French bistro is extremely consistent: every one in our party was pleased with every dish, and I have yet to experience a dish there that was less than very good. Portions are large and the food is rich; we left a fair amount of good food uneaten. Service was also exemplary, and our server correctly "read" our table to ascertain how we want the service to be paced, which was less rapid than one might expect from a perennially busy establishment. The place is loud, but we did not have any difficulty conversing with each other.
French onion soup is tremendous, so is ravioli. Half chicken is huge and steak au poivre very tasty. Couldn’t finish everything as too full. I can also recommend the Cremant
My sisters were in town and we had a great time. Our reservation was originally for 3, but we ended up with 7 at the last minute. The staff still accommodated us and within 10 minutes of our reservation time they sat our large group. Great service, great food. This is the perfect place if you have guests in town.
Did not like the server or the table we were placed at - middle of the room, super loud! But have been a bunch of times and love it!
Always spot on
