What Insiders Are Saying
This French bistro is the place to see anyone who’s ever been on “Meet the Press". The food is also delicious.
Kristen, our server, couldn’t have made our engagement more memorable!! The food was EXCELLENT. The best steak I ever had and the dessert was scrumptious!!
Food was excellent as is usually the case here. . .Roger the server was knowledgeable and skilled.
Great food and experience
Fabulous food and service. I'll be back!
Was a rainy day, so outdoor seating not an option. The seafood platter (petit plateau) is pricy but, with the bread basket was more than enough for two people. We also split the excellent lobster orzo (a Tuesday selection). One serving came already split into two plates (a great touch). Excellent service (our waitress Yun Ho) was extremely hospitable.
We will definitely go back for a meal, but hope we don’t have the same waiter.
The servers who brought our food, were nicer to us than our waiter. He was rude and very disinterested in us.
The house manager was lovely. She checked on all of the tables and was available to the customers.
Since the weather on Sunday was extremely hot, we ate indoors, in the main room. Although we were in a corner, the sound issue was terrible. The restaurant need a good acoustical consultant. I hesitate in going to Le Diplomat because of the sound issues.
Tomato and the ravioli appetizers were excellent. The Steak Frite, was just ok. The meat just did not have the right flavor.
Good service and fantastic bread.
Impeccable service in a charming setting. The food was classic French bistro, perfect for a leisurely brunch.
I am a huge fan of this restaurant -- impeccable service and great food ... until today. The wait staff was so accommodating, allowing me to substitute a small salad for the sunny side egg in the Duck Sarladaise. Great so far! But the dish was a huge disappointment, hardly any duck, primarily potatoes in a heavy sauce. I write now to urge thr restaurant to remove this dish from the menu. Every other dish I have ever had here and those my meal companions have had have all been such winners. Two thumbs down for Duck Sarladaise, but still two thumbs up for Le Diplomate!
the quality and tatse of food
Le Diplomate is one of my favorite restaurants in the 14th St/Logan Circle neighborhood. The food, wine and service are impeccable. Even with several oyster bars in the neighborhood, Le Dip has the best and most fresh oysters I've found. The entrees are delicious but my favorite is to order apps/cheese/oysters and dessert. You can't go wrong though no matter what you order.
It was my wife’s birthday and we’ve heard good things about this restaurant so we decided to give it a try. We arrived a few minutes early and had a cocktail at the bar while our table was getting ready. Shortly after we were seated outside and were promptly waited on. We started with some delicious appetizers. The sommelier recommended a very good wine for our dinners. My wife had the mussels based on our waiters recommendation and I had the duck a l’orange. My wife was not impressed with her meal as the mussels lacked flavor and were very small but we both absolutely loved my dinner choice. The evening was finished with a good coffee and creme brûlée. We will definitely come back but will avoid the mussels. Great service by everyone! Thank you
Despite living in the neighborhood for a few years now, we hadn't managed to get over to Le Diplomate to see what all the fuss was about. We took time out Saturday to do just that, though, and were very happy with our choice. The food was absolutely delicious. The gougières were light and full of flavor, the steak tartare was very nice and a little sweet from the cornichons, the cheese plate was fun, the skate grenobloise was fresh and cooked perfectly, and the duck à l'orange was the best we'd ever had. We ate too much, though, and sadly had no room for dessert. We did expect, though, that the "Warm shrimp salad" would have been an actual shrimp salad instead of a green salad with a side of shrimp. All in all a lovely experience, and we look forward to returning.
We love coming to this place - the food is amazingly good, and this time was no exception. One problem this time however: we had a party of 4 and were often deep in conversation when the waiter and sommelier would interrupt us. It happened several times and was jarring and unnecessary when it was clear we did not need assistance and were very occupied.
Hadn't been in years (moved away from the area), and was so happy to dine there again. The food was amazing as always, service top-notch. One of our favorite restaurants.
Awesome from start to finish! From the gougeres to the profiteroles, everything was delicious. Service was absolutely outstanding, water glasses magically refilled and the flow from course to course perfectly timed. Henceforth, we have decided that ALL birthdays should be celebrated here.
A European escape in the heart of DC.
Visited the restaurant for my mother's birthday, and from start to finish it was an outstanding experience. The hostesses greeted my mother and wished her a happy birthday, as did the waitress, which made her feel terrific. The service was very good, the food was delicious, and the ambiance of the restaurant is unbeatable.
thank you for the excellent service and the energetic atmosphere, food was delicious!
Le Diplomate is vibrant and fun! We were a party of 4 and enjoyed every dish we ordered. The warm shrimp salad was especially good. They also have the best pom frites! Wonderful and attentive service, great vibe. The noise level is very high in this restaurant, so if you're looking for an intimate spot with a date another option would be better. However, if you want a high octane dining experience with friends, Le Diplomate is perfect.
We sat outside, the atmosphere was lovely, great service, and the skate and creme brûlée were amazing!
Went for my mom’s birthday. She had been looking forward to it for months. It didn’t disappoint!
The food and service at Le Dip is superb--Thank you Matthew for doing such a great job with our group!! The noise is bad--and we expected that from previous visits--but the brutally cold A/C was the real problem. We asked if it could be turned down, and the manager came by and in the nicest possible way explained that if he cut back the A/C early in the evening (we were there for a 5:30 reservation) that he would never be able to get the restaurant back up to the A/C level needed for later when they would be totally full. We really appreciated the way that the Manager handled the situation, but it was really unpleasant for some of our party to enjoy their great food while they were freezing--my wife, for example, wore a high-collar blouse and brought a wrap--which she definitely used--but her head was really cold. So while I would definitely recommend the restaurant to friends, I would have to tell them about the noise and A/C issues.
Great as usual. Good table and food was delicious. can't wait until we are in town so we may come again.
We tried to order drinks when we first arrived. Since we were unfamiliar with the restaurant we were slow to order and irritated the bartender who was gruff to begin with. One needs a few minutes to digest the options on the drink side of the menu.
We moved beyond that and had a delightful taste experience
Superb. Outdoor dining was quiet enough to talk. Charming and delicious. Great waiters.
Love going to this place. It can get a bit noisy...all just depends on where you sit. We were in the side dining area away from the main dining area, so it was good on the noise level. Service was good. Drinks were boozy (as they should be). Didn't have to wait too long for anything. Food was excellent. Got treated to a glass of champagne given we were celebrating a new job...thank you!
Le Diplomat continuously lives up to it’s reputation of excellent food and terrific, friendly service. You can’t go wrong with the French Onion Soup and this time I tried the Trout Almondine. It was excellent, flakey, moist fish with a tasty crisp skin. I can’t wait to go back.
Le Diplomate is always a memorable experience, lively, feel-like-you're-in-Paris fun, happening place. Service, from the second you walk in, is professional, welcoming, and perfectly attentive. Acoustics continue to be deafening, so if you want to have a conversation with someone who is not sitting directly next to you, this place is not for you. Or get a seat outdoors. Menu is classic and expansive. Bread basket provided the tables is delightful. I always have to have the Foie Gras Parfait--so yummy, and so much you can share with the whole table. This trip we found the trout amandine and the veal escalope both savory and happily satisfying. The tuna carpaccio, while plentiful, was a bit bland. The mushroom tart was large plate-size, very rich, very mushroom and unlikely we will order again.
Must go if you are in D.C.- great food and great atmosphere!
Wonderful service, excellent food!
The food was excellent I had the special and my husband who is a chef had the duck. He was very impressed. The atmosphere is classy without being stuffy and the hostess and server were equally friendly and attentive.
Outside seating was wonderful with life music
Great French styled restaurant. Felt as though we were in Paris. Food was very good, not fantastic. Service was very good. Expensive for pretty basic food choices. Would go back.
Absolutely outstanding. Our new favorite place!
Food really tasty and full of flavours. Service very good though a bit too formal.
Our server was excellent, food was well prepared, and tasted so amazing.
As always great on all categories
