What Insiders Are Saying
This French bistro is the place to see anyone who’s ever been on “Meet the Press". The food is also delicious.
Honestly delectable in every way.
Typical French bistro. Food was good and service OK. It was very noisy and a busy place.
I reserved a table 4 weeks in advance and was seated right next to the bathrooms which was disappointing. The server was able to get us a table outside after a while. Our server was funny but forgot about the bottle of wine we ordered. It’s a great place for a special occasion but we probably won’t be returning.
Their wine selection is not good and bad marketing ! What’s listed is not what you get.
We had an awesome meal, but it went way too quickly! We wanted to spend more than forty five minutes there!
Not only are the setting, food, and service perfect, so is the attention to detail. They honored my last minute request to be seated in the back room, remembered it was my wife’s birthday, and gave us plenty of time to get caught up with our guests.
It's simply the best restaurant in DC. Food, service, ambiance always perfect. It's expensive, but I never feel that it's not entirely worth the cost. There's is no reason to eat anywhere else in DC.
Great food and service! Highly recommend
We love this place. The food and service is always good!
This is my favorite French Brasserie in DC hands down. Good food nice ambience great bar scene
A real classic French bistro. It reminded me very much of Paris. Food was excellent, and all the classic dishes are represented. Large street dining area just like a classic Parisian cafe. Very popular - hard to get reservations even on a Monday night

Liked the concept of this place and service was very good. It is extremely loud when full. People on both sides of us were literally shouting to be heard at their tables. Menu is well thought out and food was fresh however disappointingly bland.
Wonderful experience. Great food, even better waiter. Definitely recommend this to everyone!
Oh...and the cheese plates are to die for. A MUST TRY!
We have been to many a brassarie, as French is usually our favorite. Reservations need to be obtained well in advance of your visit. Our visit was perfection, from the moment we arrived. The wine list was wonderful, and every morsel of food was enjoyed! We took many of our waiter's recommendations, including the scallops, sea bass, farmer's cheese, oysters and pea soup. Dessert was also memorable, as we shared to apple tort, creme brulee and the pot de creme. We can't wait to return to DC to enjoy Le Diplomat again!
This is supposed to be one of DC’s best places. Well, the chef in my local neighborhood restaurant cooks as good as the guys here. The noise level is enormous. The waiters are quite inattentive. The wines are highly overpriced and nothing refined as one would expect here. I was anticipating to dine in the best French tradition, with a US twist. Reality could not have been farther away, unfortunately. All of the American restaurants I have visited were superior to Le Diplomate.
You will understand this is a European’s review ...
Great service food was a B+
Like you stepped into a Paris Cafe! Delicious!
Excellent attention by waiters and food was amazing.
Le Diplomate is always spectacular, the seasonal radish appetizer is a must. Our server, Nabil made the experience simply extraordinary! We bring our out of town guest regularly and highly recommend Le Diplomate for Sunday brunch or for a quiet dinner for two!
Good times with friends..Brunch: 5 cheeses, 2 bottles of bubbles, shrimp, eggs vol au vent , mushrooms tart, Norwegian benedict.. Delicious. Thank you
Excellent appetizers, entrees and desserts to die for... unusual in that everything was very good especially with a group of particular eaters. Must try the puffy gruyeres and profiteroles w banana ice cream and bittersweet chocolate poured on top at the table, ravioli excellent. Trout was flawless.
Great ambience! Great food and friendly wait staff.
Came for brunch. Started with a free bread basket, and a pastry basket (highly recommend, can always take home), and brunch dishes. Great decor that really makes you feel like you're in Paris- minus all the outdoor smoking!
One of my favorite restaurants. Great food, drink and service
The food is always great here and the service is unbelievable. Our server Dominque went out of his way to make sure all our needs were met. I had the roasted chicken for the first time on his recommendation and I did not regret it. It was delicious!
Expected more from Le Dip. Drinks were disappointing. My mezcal drink had zero presentation and my frose was mostly melted. Recommend: Pea Soup and mushroom tart. Salmon was undercooked and the burger was average.
Excellent in every single way.
What a pleasant surprise when my friend took me to Le Diplomate. I had heard of the restaurant, but this was my first visit. Hopefully this will not be the last time. The service was great, food very tasty an ambiance casual yet stylish. Split pea soup as a starter was wonderful. Seafood was super fresh and yummy. All the flavors complimented one another. All in all a great experience.
Every course was great, we had steak and duck and both were cooked to perfection. Would recommend again.
It is a lot of fun. Busy, bustling, crowded. Excellent food. Great people watching.
Wonderful experience. The food, the service and the decor all were amazing. Only downside was the noise level in the main area. But quaint seating along windows quieted things and made for a phenomenal evening.
The food was okay - both dishes I ordered (escargot and lobster risotto) were a tad too salty, which was a shame. Wine at that price was just average. Overall, it certainly wasn't worth how much we paid for our food/drinks. I was disappointed given all the reviews I saw on yelp and other website.
Fab food, service, ambience. Took kids and they loved the menu and the place too. Seafood outstanding. Wine list excellent. Will return and will recommend.
Very French. Had the duck and the steak tartare, companion had the pate and veal. We split the warm shrimp salad. All the dishes were authentic and delicious. Definitely we ordered too much! The wine was reasonably priced, service was consistent.....it’s nice to have a manger drop by twice to check in. Will return.
Come for the food, not for conversation unless you are able eat outside. At 5:15 on a Tuesday the noise level is tolerable; by 6:30 conversation between two people at a small table becomes difficult. The food is totally consistently excellent. This time it was half dozen oysters and Steak Tartare du Parc for appetizers, Moroccan Braised Lamb and Skate Grenobloise, and finishing with a Palet Chocolat-Café, everything shared by two people. Plenty of food. Attentive, well-informed but not intrusive service; good cocktails, very good sommelier wine recommendation (that didn't go to the high end). A great dinner!
Mother’s Day dinner was a hit!
I had a fabulous Mother’s Day! Food was excellent and great service! Can’t wait to go back!
