Great dinner. Great scallops and steak. Service was very good. Our table was a little crammed close to the hostess table, and we could tell when the door opened, but we made it work. Overall a really nice time and we got what we came for! Creme brulee was fantastic!
This was about our 5th time there and have never been disappointed. It is a Washington gem. Our waiter this time was absolutely the best ever...great personality and persona! Fabulous Valentine's Day!!
Our server Daniel and manager Eva made our first time experience extra special! Excellent descriptions on our food and wine by Daniel made the choices easier! Eva was bustling through the dining room filling glasses, answering questions, moving and bussing tables...endless motion! She was a delight! Our Valentine’s Day lunch was made to perfection! We know we will be back for sure!!
Cacao Bistro is better French food, the duck was ok.
We have been customers since the 2013 opening and just love the consistency, both food, ambiance and service
Simply THE BEST! The food is unbelievably delicious, the staff is so accommodating and helpful. I look forward to dining at LD every time I'm in D.C..
Wonderful as always! Loved the food, the service, and overall experience. We will be back!
We went for our 1-year anniversary! It was incredible! The staff even brought us free treats and champagne for dessert! Amazing experience!
Dinner was fantastic! Our server, Daniel, was very knowledgeable and attentive.
Love this place for every day as well as special events. Food and service are impeccable. They got it right and they’ve never stopped!
We came here for a friends birthday on Sunday night. Made reservations at 9pm. Had to wait a few minutes to be seated. We ordered the steak tartare, mac n cheese, and escargot to start. All three were amazing. The bread basket was delicious too. For our main course we ordered the steak, muscles, and duck. All amazing. Definitely will be back when we visit again!
Love this place! Fun atmosphere and the food and service are consistently excellent.
Great place for brunch! My friend had the Benedict eggs and I had the duck. Everything was delicious and the service was really nice and professional. Will come back!
I always love Le Diplomate. It’s one of my favorite spots in DC. The food, drinks and atmosphere were spot on as always.
Brunch at Le Diplomate is fun and reliable. We've been several times, and the food is always good (French bistro standards), the service attentive, the room large and boisterous. Reservations are a good idea (essential?). Highly recommended - one of our favorite DC brunch spots.
Second time at restaurant in 3 weeks. Food is outstanding but it appears service drops off at later reservation times.
Le Diplomate used to be a favorite whether a quick stop in at the bar for a burger and salad or a special occasion. The special occasion restaurant was besmirched last evening — the restaurant seems to be just going through the motions. The sauvignon blanc by the glass was less special that the previous New Zealand, the pour was small, the stemware was thick and small. The baquette was excellent as always. The veal escalope was very good but needs a starch to liven up the plate of tan — wild rice?, rosti potatoes? The steak frites was and end piece (like the end tail of a filet) so grisly that a steak knife couldn’t tackle it. The manager offered to replace but I was already eating my veal — he did offer to replace both but why was such an inferior piece of meat sent out in the first place. He removed the steak from the bill but this was 2 birthday dinners and we felt left down by an old friend. The $8 garlic spinach was bland and boring. A complimentary profiteroles was missing the banana and praline and we left wishing we had had dinner at home. Very disappointed. The restaurant seems more like the factory it has become, with people sitting on the street in yesterday’s cold to experience it but the experience for those who have long considered it their favorite is diminished.
Got there early for 5 PM reservation on a Sat nite, so hostess suggested we go to bar.We did - bar extremely crowded, and we could not get to it to order and no servers asked us for orders. Once seated for dinner, service and drinks were excellent though food only average and not worth price. We also were unlucky to be seated near an engagement party of 12 or so who were very loud. Vert unlikely we would return.
Amazing food and great service. Only took away one star from service because they cleared some plates before everyone at the table was finished eating their meal.
The service was slow. The table next to us was seated 10 minutes after us, yet they received their drinks and bread basket 15 minutes before us! The waiter did not give accurate descriptions of the portions and desserts. I made a reservation for a birthday and mentioned the birthday in the reservation's comments, however my waiter apparently was not informed and did not offer candles with dessert, etc. I expect a restaurant like this to communicate special occasions with waitstaff. It was also very loud. We were seated next to a table of 10 who were drunk and shouting at each other. The restaurant overall is very packed and noisy, but the table next to us made it miserable.
Overall the restaurant is beautiful and the food is good, but my birthday experience was very disappointing. Will not return here again for a special occasion and would not recommend it to others when it's a special celebration. The restaurant is too busy to pay attention to details.
Pretty good. Just, for the money, wish it had been a tiny bit better. Maybe a little less grease and a little less salt, too.
Perfect as always.
Food was fine but not great. In a word, overrated.
Great food. Will be back.
Absolutely loved this place and the food! My date and I agreed that the food and atmosphere was great. Can definitely see has to why they are always so busy. I recommend to make reservations ahead of time since it’s a popular place.
You are welcomed the moment you arrive .
The staff is lovely great wine selection and the food and service are delicious.
A lovely quick trip to France .
The food and service are always wonderful at Le Diplomate . It’s as if a Parisian brasserie was magically transported to 14th Street NW. The only sour note is how loud it is but that is not Le Diplomate’s fault. Americans are notoriously loud, especially when fueled by alcohol as was the table of eight near me and my husband last night. Oh well, Le Diplomate is still very much worth a visit.
Le Dip is consistently top notch. And the ambiance was warm and perfect for a cold, rainy night.
Always a memorable experience! Delicious food and superb customer service in a dynamic setting, Le Diplomate never disappoints.
Everything was great as always.
Le Diplomate was outstanding in every way! We had ricotta ravioli for an appetizer which was delicious! We also had skate fish and beef bourginon for entree. Both were outstanding! Probably the best fish dish I’ve ever had and the beef had delicious flavor and very tender. Dessert was a chocolate, ice cream and pastry. Delicious! Highly, highly recommend!
Absolutely amazing all the way around.
Le Dip never disappoints. One of my favorite spots in DC!
A reliable, if predictable, food destination. I go there when I have guests from out of town. Well prepared food. I’d avoid the veal escalope, though. The special meat was lost in a sauce of lemmony cream sauce smothered with spring onions. Mashroom and onion soups were good. The steak frites and burgers are always tasty, so are some of the fish dishes.
I’ve enjoyed every visit; this meal was no different. I appreciated the advice of the sommelier with wine suggestions. Very attentive, professional and efficient service throughout.
All things considered, Le Diplomat is my favorite restaurant. Having said that, be aware that Le Diplomat presents three challenges with which you will have to deal, including:
(1) It is extremely difficult to score a reservation within a week of your desired day/time - so plan ahead;
(2) Parking is a crap-shoot - although they do offer valet parking; and
(3) It is very expensive - so don't go weekly......
If you try nothing else, order the "warm shrimp salad" and the mushroom soup. The baked scallops are also extraordinary. And finally, if you visit on a Sunday, seriously consider the Poulet Feuilleté
Le Diplomate used to be one of my favorite restaurants in DC. After my experience this Sunday, I do not plan on returning. I made a reservation almost three weeks in advance for brunch. The reservation was for 2, but I called the previous Tuesday to expand the reservation for 3. Upon arrival, they made us wait 15 minutes to be seated and then tried to seat us outside on a "heated" patio that had a plastic enclosure. It is February on the East Coast, so naturally it was very cold out there and we asked to be seated inside. The hostess was beyond rude and condescending, and said that since we expanded our party to 3 almost a week ago, we would have to wait 45 minutes for a table inside. Our reservation was for 1:30 which is after the big lunch rush and there were many open tables for 3 inside. We had to ask for a manager who reluctantly seated us inside at 2pm, 30 minutes after our reservation time. It is hard for me to believe that if we were not three young, college aged women that they would have treated us this badly. It is inappropriate to bully and discriminate against us just because we are younger. We are customers and our money is just as good as anyone else's. I was honestly shocked at how badly we were treated.
Phenomenal, as usual. I go at least once a month and I always have a wonderful experience.
