More hype than anything. The food was bland. We ordered the crab cocktail, steak frites, ricotta ravioli and another beef entree and we were not impressed. We were so happy to have finally gotten a reservation but the food was nothing to ride home about. The best part was the basket of bread and butter. Will not go back.

We sat outside which was nice, unfortunately no heaters by us, but still a cool environment. The best was the warm shrimp salad, highly recommend. Great spot for people traveling through.

I always enjoyed dining in at LeDiplomate. However, due to COVID-19 my recent visit is quite not the same. I missed being able to go in by the bar and grabbing some drinks while waiting for the table or my friend. Yet, this visit it's not allowed. I got there a bit too early and had to wait outside in cold for a bit longer than usual. The food taste great and our server was lovely.

Fantastic as usual. Having family in town, we were able to enjoy a wonderful (socially distanced) meal. Was great to see the takeout bags piled up on the bar as well...well worth the visit if you can make it!

We asked for outdoor dining and we were seated on 14th street not the pretty patio. As someone who dined there frequently this was very disappointing. Then I was told to watch my bag as there was a lot of theft with tables off of 14th street. I think this is a good place for walk ins but not frequent diners and reservations.

The food was outstanding as always- everything was delicious- from the drinks to the beef, onion soup, profiteroles, and cappuccino! Servers were all so good too. I have 3 complaints- 1- when I made the reservations, I said we were celebrating a birthday. We have had many family birthdays at Le Diplomat over the years and at each they either gave us a free glass of sparkling wine or a special dessert- and at least a candle in the dessert. Yesterday, they did nothing to acknowledge the birthday. 2: Their voicemail says that they are open from 1pm on week days rather than 12pm. So I was nervous that we would arrive for our 12pm reservation and they would not be open. I let them know about the message issue. Thirdly-they wanted to seat us in 2 bad locations at first- first on the very busy/loud road, but I have a hearing issue and do not want to pay for a $140 lunch while listening to loud traffic. Then they tried to put us at a table that was by a loud truck and a smelly driveway with garbage smells. There were plenty of nice tables, so I asked for a third time and we sat in a lovely space. They had said at first that those table were for larger parties, but there were 2 other tables with only 2 people, 2 tables with 3 people, and several empty tables. It was very strange. So- I love this restaurant, but there were issues before we finally got settled at our table with our super server.

Bar none, my favorite restaurant in the DC area! It has a great ambience, and the food is reliably delicious. We love the steak frites, the duck, French onion soup, and so many other menu items. We always enjoy the profiteroles for dessert. The bread is terrific, and have I mentioned the cocktails? All yum!

I love le Diplomate and had normally been there to celebrate Bastille Day and birthdays, memorable occasions, la grand fête! But we wanted to return to dine more casually. We treated ourselves on the the long weekend and had the best hamburger I think I've ever had in my life, perfectly cooked, medium rare, and a great bottle of Lebanese wine in the style of Côte du Rhône. The service was great, and nice to treat ourselves. We'll return sooner!

We were told that we were unable to sit outside by the host though there were several open tables outside, and I adjusted the reservation ~15-30 minutes prior and could have selected outside seating.

Though our server was kind, we received appetizers, wine services and cocktails prior to getting water, which we had to ask a manager passing by for. The server

We finally scored reservations and were so eager to dine at Le Dip. Alas, I was crestfallen.

We arrived just before our 2pm reservation and found a crowd in front of the hostess stand. We stood a bit away from the crowd and looked at the hostess stand for guidance. One of the hostesses came to us and was incredibly condescending as she pointed to the sidewalk and said, “You should stand where the stickers are. See? That’s where you stand.” Nobody else was standing in the marked areas.

She then escorted us to a table on the street. We passed many tables that were much nicer. Having indicated that we were in a date, I had hoped for something nicer. Alas, that’s where we landed. She left without saying a thing. I was annoyed, but relieved she was gone.

After that the service was fine. We ordered spicy Bloody Mary’s. They were SO hot my partner was unable to drink any of his despite diluting it 50/50 with water.

We both ordered steak frites, which we had been craving for months. The steak was good, albeit very rich, and cooked at the exact right temperature. The fries, though, were so heavily salted they weren’t edible—which is a shame since the potatoes themselves had excellent flavor and were perfectly crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside.

It struck me as odd that the wait staff made no comment about seeing one completely full Bloody Mary on the table and two plates full of fries, each with a half-eaten steak.

The bill with a $20 tip was $117, which to me was an enormous waste following the tone set by the hostess. Disappointing.

Food is consistently good but service is lacking. Our waiter ignored me for the first 10 minutes I sat at the table waiting for my party, and took another 15 minutes to bring me my cafe au lait. Very impersonal and lacking care.

The hostess/restaurant messed up our reservation so we ended up waiting about 45 minutes for our table. She wasn’t apologetic whatsoever, and when I pointed out that her response wasn’t very professional, she scoffed. Other than that, our food and individual waiter was good.

Another lovely date night at Le Diplomate.
The experience was complimented by the exceptional service and attention to detail by Alex (female) our server and Hawaani. Easily could’ve been a 5 star experience had the manager not been so nonchalant about the mice running around his dinning room. A simple sincere apology goes a long way.
