Great food, service, and atmosphere. Good if you have a large group as well.
We waited 45 minutes to be seated in spite of having a reservation at 8:15. Apetizers came right away but we waited a long time to have the main courses, at least 30 minutes.
The main waiter behavior was perfunctory and dry cut
We love Le Colonial. Each time we are in San Francisco we have dinner there. It’s always a treat with unusual dishes!
The host/manager did a great job of seating us together although we made a last minute change to our reservation. We had a phenomenal time and the food was fantastic!
Very creative dishes and great selection for vegetarians as well as those focused on either fish or meat dishes. Wonderful cocktails and an overall great experience. Only issue was we were seated close to the front door and since it was a very busy evening the door was open a lot and it was too cold at our table.
Its a good place. Loved the food and the ambiance. First floor is restaurant, second flor is the bar; setup and ambiance of each floor is very different from each other, therefore I would recommend visiting both floors. There is a parking / valet, therefore don't stress out looking for parking in the area.
A wonderful meal as usual. The service was excellent!
Great food, very nice reminder of how excellent this restaurant is!
My husband and I try to plan a Le Colonial outing when we visit San Francisco. The last couple
of times, we included dear friends, and they loved it!
Food was super bland and disappointing. It was so expensive and not good.
Amazing food in a cozy old time atmosphere. Having lived in Vietnam for six months it was slightly painful paying high $20s for the mains but the food was excellent. I was sad the bar was out of ingredients to make the guava pisco. Great ambiance and wished we could’ve arrived earlier to have a drink upstairs in the bar before dinner.
This restaurant is great. The decor os really nice, with a nice ambiance, perfect lighting.
Service is top notch, very knowledgeable of the food and friendly.
Upstairs is a bar with a lounge and more seating. They had a live band on Saturday night and there is a small dance floor which was packed.
Happy hour at the bar was till 8pm and the drinks are delicious. I had a few Mai Tai’s and they were yum. Not your typical over sweetened drinks. Well balanced and delicious. We also tried the coffee martini with dessert. So good.
Food wise, the ingredients are fresh and tasty. Spring rolls were nice. The fried pot stickers were a table favorite but not mine. I had the Sesame Tuna dish, tuna perfectly seared, side of veggies were nicely sautéed. Very nice dish. I had a bite of the steak, cooked medium, just right. And we ordered garlic noodles for the table. Holly molly were those delicious. Three of us cleaned the plate of noodles.
We did try dessert and I know it was yummy but I cannot remember details. Im a light weight and three drinks in I was done.
Great time with my girls.
Noise from room above spoiled evening
The food was very good but we waited 45 minutes for service. Unfortunately, since we were on a schedule of our own that kind of ruined the good feeling.
Hadn't been there in quite some time, but had a free night in our schedule of visiting family for the holidays...so glad we remembered this gem. All of the food we ordered to share was very, very good, but the Five Spice Duck Breast was off-the-charts great...best we have ever had! We will be back the next time we visit SF.
Classy place with nice atmosphere. High quality chicken pho and excellent coffee donut dessert.
We have eaten here many times and have never been disappointed. Everything, from drinks to food is excellent. My only criticism would be that the service could have been more attentive and not in a rush to see us out the door...we were not the last ones there but got the impression that our waiter was waiting for us to leave so he could go home.
Birthday for my daughters 18th combined with Christmas with family.
Menu was more commercial but quality remains very high. Hadn’t been there for awhile. Will return sooner
Love the food and the ambiance. One of my wife's all time favorite restaurants. Not even sure what are the best dishes because I order different things each time and enjoy everything. Visited twice in the last week. Looking forward to coming back. The upstairs bar is fun too. Live swing music.
Nice festive ambiance with great food
Loved the tiffin dinner on Sunday night!
I was not warned about an entre that was not available and it was the one I selected - then this happened with both desserts we picked. The other waiter was very gracious and made dessert on the house. It took forever to get our drinks ordered and received at the table. We felt ignored.
The service and food were both wonderful. We had a wonderful evening with our adult son, it was pouring rain outside and warm and cozy inside. Loved the Valet parking as the area was very busy.
Delivers every year! My wife and I have made Le Colonial a yearly ritual in December and they never disappoint. Good food, friendly service, and a warm environment make it an event to look forward to.
We love ordering off the appetizer portion of the menu. Great cocktails, Ani's Ghost being our favorite. Wonderful service even though a busy night. We will be back.
Muy bueno en todos los aspectos
It was our first visit and our party of four loved it!!!
Service was great also. Jed was great!
From the minute you walk in until the minute you leave, the experience is always wonderful. The service is five star, the food is unique and was very good. It’s a little gem in the city, so if you get a chance to go, I highly recommend it. We had the Seabass in banana leaves which was delicious, the garlic noodles and several of the other dishes. We’ll be back!!
Great experience. Food was amazing. Will definitely return for special occasions. It was raining on the night we went, but would like to sit outside on a night with nice weather.
Because of the ambience and the high prices on the menu, we were expecting something exquisite. The food was good, but not excellent. The soup, tasty but a bit too salty; the vegetables and sauce with my halibut dish were delightful, but the fish itself was dry; my husband's steamed bass in banana leaf was the only dish that came close to expectations. If I were to rate the restaurant on the personnel alone, I'd give it top marks. They were courteous, friendly, accommodating....
This was a special experience. The food - all of it - was spectacular. Best crab cakes I’ve ever had. Everyone loved their dishes. The service was equally terrific. Attentive but low key, no request was a problem, water was kept filled, questions were promptly answered, timing of delivery and presentation was perfect. We LOVED it and will be sure to make Le Colonial a stop any time we are in the area.
The food was amazing. The place is beautiful. Maybe it was because we weren’t dressed up (jeans and jacket), but after we told them we’re cold and had been hiking all day they sat us towards the front door in a beautiful window with a crazy cold draft. I spent most of the dinner trying to stay warm. The food was incredible however. I’ll definitely bring visiting friends here for the experience :)
Food & service are always exceptional! My friend with thier friends & me will always come back !!
We have enjoyed dining at Le Colonial many times. Our last dinner there was delicious! We enjoyed the Sea Bass wrapped in banana leaves, the stir fried brussels sprouts, the noodles with Dungeness Crab, and the Pot Stickers. The only disappointing part was the table where they sat us. There were many other great tables available but we were told those were all reserved, even though most remained empty 2 hours later when we left. I hope the restaurant staff is able to get a better handle on managing reservations and seating.
Splendid upscale Vietnamese Restaurant. Excellent quality ingredients and presentation from the chef and lovely cocktail compilation from the bar. We ordered the appetizer sampler which was AH-MAZING. I ordered the chicken curry which 9/10 but the prawns noodles were INCREDIBLE!! Would recommend 100%!! Big thank to the Algerian/French waiter who was impeccable in his service and so kind.
A Favorite place in sf, absolutely enjoyable. Highly recommend
Great place for that business dinner with a flare for good mix of tastes. There was something for everyone, vegetarian to meat lovers. Timing of the dishes spaced well to allow us to share in some great wines and attentive staff. Still a favorite for the mix of french and asian.
Perfect table. Delicious food!
My favorite restaurant in San Francisco. The crab rolls appetizer should not be missed!
